I'm one of those weird users who uses his laptop for 20 different things - taking notes at conferences, as a portable scanning workstation, occasional mobility gaming, doing work on planes/trains/occasional automobiles. The only thing I don't use it for (caveat to this review) is as a primary computer / desktop replacement. Essentially I wanted a netbook, but on some serious steroids. That's exactly what this is.
The 13.3 inch screen is a perfect size. It's not matte, but it's worked fine for me in a wide variety of settings. The keyboard is a mixed bag...there's some flex (more than my previous computer, a Sony Vaio S270), but it's perfectly fine for typing long documents. Videos play back perfectly at any resolution. And I thought the touchpad is perfectly fine and have no complaints, but I'm not a multitouch user. The system doesn't get hot at all, doesn't make much noise, and does whatever I throw at it. And the battery life is superb if you do a few common-sense things like lowering the display (and honestly, in many settings it's too bright unless turned down anyway).
A few notes (these don't detract from the score, but...)
* The unit is heavier than you'd guess from the side. It means it's solidly built, but it's not a featherweight at roughly 5 lbs.
* I wish the B1 had onboard bluetooth available on the ASUS U30JC-A2B 13.3-Inch Laptop (Silver), but for a $200 price difference it's not a big deal.
* I wish this came with a 500 GB rather than a 320 GB drive, and that they didn't partition separate OS and Data partitions.
But these are minor quibbles on a great laptop. Highly recommended.
