(1) This is the lightest printer among peers. HP's 450cbi, the closest alternative in my book, is nowhere near as portable as the i70.
(2) Prints directly from a digicam. I use Canon's G3, and I can now share photo print-outs straight from my camera. No need to lug my laptop around.
(3) The battery life is great, don't believe detractors. IN general you don't need the battery -- that is only for outings, for those occasions when you just have to print out something while sitting by the lake.
(4) It is FAST! Especially for color prints, it outpaces my full-blown HP laserjet.
(5) It is QUIET. You'll have to get used to its noiseless printing. First time round, I had to check to make sure the paper was printed on.
(6) Is a breeze to INSTALL. Something you can expect from Canon, of course.
(7) Works with both Windows and Macs.
CAVEATS:
(1) The photo quality may not appeal to shutterbugs, especially if NOT printed on photo paper, but for general office workers with little desk space or for folks with a packed travel roster, the i70 is a pretty safe bet.
(2) The ink costs may sky rocket quite quickly if you print colored stuff often. If, like me, your general printing is B&W, then this is a great buy.
(3) The price, especially if you buy the battery pack. But there are deals if you know where to look.
SUMMARY:
A great overall printer, definitely if you need to carry one around. I purchase Epson's photo paper (not Canon's own) for color shots and the i70 prints more than adequately. The speed, the quality and the quietness make it one of my top printer recommendations -- all things said, even better than a regular inkjet.

(More customer reviews)I print on the go all the time, and sometimes, at conferences and events, it's been more than a lifesaver. Printing good photos on the go seemed a natural addition.
Problems with this printer include: need really good quality paper for decent prints (consistent with Canon printers in my experience); Canon's warranty is lousy (and they have screwed me before with products that broke a couple months after warranty expired); photo quality is less than a dedicated 6- or 8-ink desktop printer; expensive inks.
Primary use: printing at conferences or other public events that keep you away from an office. Kinkos beware--this thing handles most of the jobs that I'd run to a business center to do while on the go. HOWEVER, without buying the extra battery, you're still on the prowl for the power outlets, along with everyone else in the room.
Secondary use: traveling, where snapshots of friends can be handed over while still on the go. I tend to travel light, so carrying a printer is a bit nuts, and the inks run out quickly, but sometimes there's no replacement for printing a photo of some new friend and giving them a copy while on the go.
Tertiary use: desktop printer. There's cheaper, faster, better alternatives for this use though--but it does fine as a backup (or when I want to print from a room without a printer without getting up).

In conventional print heads, the temperature and viscosity of the ink when it leaves the nozzle can produce slight fluctuations in the amount and direction of ink discharged. To overcome this fundamental problem, Canon attached a heater, which heats and vaporizes the ink inside the nozzle to form microbubbles, in an ideal position closer to the nozzle outlet. Canon PIXMA iP90 Photo Inkjet Printer (9466A001) Review

(More customer reviews)I read the previous reviews and I did some research on the net about this printer. I was skeptical when I received it in the mail from Amazon about how it would be. Let me start off by saying that I am happy with it! But it is not perfect! It fits easily in my Targus backpack laptop bag with all the other gadgets I carry around with me. I saw one review that stated that the text printing was fuzzy but it seems very crisp to me and very fast for such a small printer. The photos are good quality but of course could be better from a 6 or 7-color printer, but since I have this in my bag along with a box of 4x6 photo paper I can print off a picture at any time if someone wanted a copy (and that happens a lot and sometimes I get paid for it! LOL). Convenience is King.
Here are a few specs that I figured out.
Number of photos from a single color cartridge: ~30
Approx price per photo: $.52 (With Epson glossy photo paper which I found for $16.99 for a 100 sheet box)
So, here is the deal, you are definitely paying for the convenience of printing your photos any where AND having the ability to print to letter or legal size paper. My fiancé and I have a lot of hobbies and we tend to be on the go a LOT. When we need to print out a map to somewhere or print out instructions for some kind of project while we are in the parking lot of Lowe's we count on this printer big time!
Bottom line... Is it the best and cheapest printer out there? Nope! Is the best printer for my on the go lifestyle and convenience? Totally!

Canon SELPHY CP770 Compact Photo Printer (3058B001) Review

I did A TON of research online looking for an affordable, quick, and quality printer to allow me to print 4"x6" souvenir prints for wedding reception guests. I purchased this little yellow bucket Canon printer about 3 weeks before I had a big Bridal Expo and was excited to try it out on shopping Brides...giving each Bride who stopped by my booth a chance to get photographed and take home a souvenir print. I was a little nervous...since I'd never EVER done on-location printing, let alone on a new product and experimenting on 3000+ potential new clients. ...I was amazing at that little printer...it ran, pretty much non-stop, for 6 hours...printing back to back. I ended up printing about 200 prints that day.
I used a Canon 5D mark II camera, wirelessly triggering a strobe studio light, hooked up by cord to the Canon Selphy printer...and would just the direct printing option via the playback on LCD screen.
Pros: Small & portable, SUPER easy use (print directly by Canon camera, or plug in memory card), good quality prints
Cons: It took a little longer than I expected each print would take. I was printing directly from my camera and didn't realize until beginning that I wasn't able to take another picture until the current image was done printing. That was a big draw back when I had a very long line of Brides waiting for their turn to be photographed. I didn't time it exactly, but I think it look a minute or over to produce each print.
Considering the other products in the price range, this was the perfect printer for the job...I just need to order a second one and have two cameras going the next time I have such a large event.

(More customer reviews)I bought this printer at the bequest of a customer for his home office install. It works great and the Bluetooth option is worth getting! Basically the only difference between the 460C, 460WF and 460WBT is the type of card includes for the Compact Flash slot. WF has a Wireless CF card, and the WBT has a Bluetooth CF Card. If your laptop is bluetooth capable and WBT option is great - no wires and setup literally takes 5 mins. The printer turns on quickly (the self test is only a few seconds) and printing is very fast for an inkjet. Quality is par with other inkjets (not laser quality but very close). I highly recommend this printer for travellers or people who need something with small footprint for small spaces or those who want something light/sleep looking. HP came up with a winner with the 460c.

Pocketjet 3 Portable Printer Review

(More customer reviews)The product description is completely misleading. One assumes that, when you purchase such a product, it will be useable when received. Not in this case. All that you are purchasing if the body of the printer. No cables, no power source is received. When I first purchased the printer, I assumed it was a mistake and called customer service. They assured me that it was a mistake and agreed to send a new one. When i received the new one, it was exactly the same. I again called customer service and this time was told that is the way the product is sold and he admitted it might not be clear in the description. I returned both items and am now very careful when considering purchasing anything from Amazon. If it does not specifically indicate that the product comes with all necessary accessories, i do not make the purchase.
This is too bad because I have been a very active customer of Amazon and your site has always been the first one i would go to in search of a product i was interested in. That is no longer the case for other than the simplest of products.
I hope you will work out these significant shortcomings, as I find your site the most efficient and reliable site in every other way.

(More customer reviews)This is a very good portable printer and comes in three versions. The printer for all 3 versions is identical, but difference is in the rechargeable battery, the wifi wireless, and bluetooth communicator.
There are some negative reviews for this printer stating poor photo print quality or subpar text. But this is due to the user not reading the manual which clearly explains that the supplied cartridges are for general use. If you are going to print photos, then you need to purchase the photo cartridge for superb prints. If you want deep crisp text, then Cartridge #88 does the job. So the negative reviews are not fair to HP or the prospective buyer.
This is a great little printer which can go on the road by either powering it through the car adapter or rechargeable battery (not included with the basic model)
Also, this printer can print from cellphone pics, and other handheld devices such as PDA (via bluetooth technology). The photo's are clear, crisp sharp images
and the text prints are also good. Not a bad investment at all, just buy the proper cartridge for the job and you'll be a happy camper. Not a bad choice at all.

Canon PIXMA iP100 Mobile Photo Printer Review

(More customer reviews)We bought this little gem to take to Europe. First impressions are very favorable. It's small, reliable, and prints beautifully. At just over four pounds, it's perfect for travel.
The little Bluetooth adaptor also works very well. Reading the manual (!), I discovered it is possible to mount the adapter permanently inside the printer so that it's not exposed and doesn't need attachment every time it is used. This is a simple procedure, and enhances the usefulness of the Bluetooth capability that is all but de rigueur when traveling. The installation / setup information is also in the electronic manual that comes on the CD.
But as good as the printer is, it does not come with (nor does Canon offer) a case of any kind. I found the perfect solution - from Case-Mate: go to http://www.case-[...] and buy the 'Glovez 15"' sleeve (like a large envelope with a velcro closure / flap). It comes in an assortment of colors and is a skin-tight (but very workable) fit in the 'length' direction. When inserted, the printer doesn't take up every bit of the case in the 'width' direction, meaning there is just enough room to also accommodate the cord and AC brick. Throw these in, close the flap, and you're always ready to roll.
Best part: this 'Glovez' sleeve is only $9.99 + $3.99 S/H, and gets to you in a few days. It's not bulky - just what one wants to protect the printer but not take up room. (As an aside, the Case-Mate Glovez 13" [for the MacBook 13" and Air] fits the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 perfectly).
March 8, 2011: Came back (for the first time) to look over some of my reviews, and thought I would update this one. We took the printer to Europe for a month in the summer of 2008 (and, as noted by one of the commenters, it does indeed have a built-in usable voltage range of 100 - 240V, 50 - 60 Hz, so one needs only an adapter for local outlets, and not a transformer of any kind). It performed flawlessly then, and continues to do so today.
We take it everywhere. It goes in the bag wherever we go on vacation, or on business, and has never missed a beat. It sets up in an instant as soon as you get to your hotel room - so easy to use. As stated before, I highly recommend the internally-mounting bluetooth adapter; it's never in the way, impossible to lose, and reliable. OK: Canon gets a small demerit for not building it in in the first place, but... With today's wireless-built-in portable PCs and other devices, it's a snap to hook up to the Internet within moments of arriving at your hotel, then send maps, proposals, anything else, etc. to the printer with no cables whatever. Especially good when both of us have our laptops out at a hotel room: we can both send jobs to the printer across the room without getting in each other's way. It's quick, reliable, durable, with various 'quality levels' available - and I highly recommend it for mobile use.
I know Canon also makes a battery that 'bolts-on' to the back of this printer. For my application, the additional $100 wasn't worth the extra bulk - to achieve a freedom from the electric grid that I didn't need. But if you conduct business in your pickup, or out in the field, it would certainly make sense: put the printer on the passenger seat and produce a customer invoice, etc. on the spot.
I seldom wax so enthusiastic over a product, and have been known to be excoriatingly critical of poor designs / execution. But Canon hit the nail dead center with this product: if you're in the market for a genuinely useful, rugged, portable printer - get it. You will not regret the decision.

HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer Review

(More customer reviews)A little background: I already have two printers I use. My Epson R2400 is a great photo printer, but only a mediocre general purpose printer. My old HP LaserJet 4M still does the job, but it has some limitations. It's a big energy hog/space heater, so I don't leave it on, and it takes a while to warm up. It's black and white only. And the single feed tray no longer works. I thought this little HP inkjet might be a replacement for my general purpose printing, of which I don't do a lot. I was also intrigued by its Bluetooth capability; I don't print very often from my laptop, but Bluetooth would be a very convenient way to do it when I want to.
I first loaded up the software on my laptop, which took a while. HP is certainly not frugal in loading software. At one point the instructions were to just follow the "add printer" instructions in Windows (XP), which weren't entirely clear for adding a Bluetooth printer. I didn't have much trouble figuring it out, but I've been dealing with computers for a lot more years than I want to think about. HP's instructions could have been more helpful.
After that I was able to print using the Bluetooth connection. I then unplugged the printer, and printed using battery power. It all worked!
Next I loaded the software on my desktop, and set out to print via USB. There is, of course, no USB cable included. Never mind that USB connections on computers are 99% standard, they saved the few dimes including a cable would have cost. Fortunately I have a cable for nearly any occasion, including things nobody has used in twenty years, so I got it hooked up and printing.
The print quality is very good on the paper sample HP included, and almost as good on basic laser printer paper. It can't quite match a laser printer on fine lines and small fonts, but for most people it will suit their needs quite nicely.
As HP included the ability to print borderless photos, I had to test that capability. I printed a photo from Tuscany at 4x6 on both the HP and the R2400. To be fair, I used the stock settings for both, not the adjusted settings I normally use with the R2400. The HP did produce a decent picture. It wasn't up to the R2400's quality, but it's not an expensive photo printer. With some adjustments it could be pretty darn good. I wouldn't recommend getting one to use as a photo printer, but it is certainly capable of printing a photo now and then.
OK, let's talk it's limitations. It has no paper capture tray, which is not surprising in a printer designed to be portable. And its dinky cartridges aren't going to print a lot of pages, especially with a lot of color.
This is a good, light duty printer that will work in a constrained space or as a portable printer. If you plan to do a lot of printing get a larger inkjet printer with separate cartridges for different colors, or a laser printer. If you want to print a lot of photos get a photo printer. (More customer reviews)Driver loaded first time no problem, battery charged quickly, test print came out perfect, test printed a 8.5 x 11 photo, it took about a minute and came out great on the included standard ink. The printer weight is 5.4 lbs with the battery installed it's not light but it's not that bad either. I owned a Canon portable, it lasted 10 months and had to be replaced under warranty, I quickly sold the replacement, they are slow and noisy, they cost way more, the ink cartridges are very tiny and expensive, I had to refill my own to afford to use it, the HP cartridges hold twice as much ink and are cheaper. If you've got money to burn then get the Canon, if not this HP is a deal and you get a battery with it, what good is a mobile printer without a battery?

HP H470wbt Officejet Mobile Printer Review

(More customer reviews)The HP H470wbt is HP's answer to the "on the go" printer. If you haven't read the spec you will see this particular incarnation comes with a battery for on the road use. The battery is charged while on the printer much like a laptop.
The overall quality of print is passable but not top of the line nor a good choice if you want nice photo-quality prints.
However, if you need to print normal text or perhaps a page from the internet, it does fine. The pages come out at a fair pace (better than one would expect from a small printer) and the quality is acceptable.
The footprint is relatively small and if you plan to carry around with you, expect to use something like a backpack or camera style backpack for your laptop and the printer.
The blue tooth that comes with it works well enough. Just remember to install the blue tooth drivers then deal with Windows itself (in that order).
The one real caveat relates to small printer small ink cartridges. One has to realize to keep this unit small and consume little power, the cartridges are on the small side. Fortunately, they are easily found at various merchants and not an odd special cartridge(s). There is the option to get slightly larger ones but again, the larger ones are also fairly small in output.
Last on the not so good list - HP insists on some of their inkjets to use flimsy mechanisms for housing the ink cartridges. In this case they have some "wires" bent to work with the install assembly of the cartridges. This is asking for trouble sooner or later.
I have not ran enough paper through to experience any paper feed problems and thus, cannot comment on this. This is an important part and as those who have had laser printers and inkjets know this can be a problem that occurs over time.
Overall the unit is passable and in some respect very nice. I give it three stars rather than four because of the ink install assembly. The blue tooth, compactness, reasonable output are all to be appreciated.

Also I found I needed PrintBoy or some other Palm application to use this printer at all. The Bluetooth feature is an improvement over the earlier IR-only model, and I don't mind that it only uses A7 size thermal paper. But the Palm OS itself doesn't support printing Docs to Go fonts, so what you see on your Palm device is not what you get from the printer. Also no graphics printing, but again, that's a Palm OS problem. Other than that, it's a pretty amazing little device, but not worth half of what it costs.
