(More customer reviews)I have purchased many notebooks over the years and have many computers in my house. When it came time to upgrade to a new laptop I looked long and hard at everything out there around the $500 mark. It is very hard to find a laptop that has everything you want in one package. This one is no exception. The only thing I find puzzling is that it has a mono speaker. Thats right, only one speaker over by the power button. After some thought, I realize I never listen to anything on my laptop other than dings and random youtube videos without using my bluetooth headphones. This has bluetooth built in! There is another version of this laptop with a 2.2 processor, but a smaller hard drive for more money. Not worth the extra if you ask me. I put this as a great all around laptop. It easily handles regular surfing, mail, office apps, but has the power for photoshop and video/DVD editing when needed. The price is as good as it gets for a laptop with these specs.
The good:
*Phenom II X3 2.1 processor. Fast and might be able to unlock the fourth core? Gotta look into that.
*4 gigs of DDR3 ram. Upgradeable to 8 gigs using a kit here for around $80 if you need that much
*Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, most cheap laptops have 32 bit.
*Great wireless signal, B, G and N and its fast
*Gigabit hardwired network, i use this with my server and its worth it!
*500GB hard drive
*Great multi-touch mousepad with scroll feature
*Screen is very crisp and clear. I like glossy screens compared to the matte finish, this one is glossy.
*Widescreen
*Not much pre-installed junk. Seriously, this is the "cleanest" factory built computer I have ever purchased! Good job Acer!!!
*Quiet and cool. Something you wouldn't think a Phenom II in a laptop would be.
*Has 3 USB ports, HDMI AND VGA, and an SD card slot, things I had to have.
*Radeon HD 4250, works good for what I do.
The not so good:
*Only one speaker, just a weird thing as there seems to be room for it and they cant be saving that much money on it.
*5400 RPM hard drive....I would prefer the 7200RPM faster drive, but can live with it.
*Battery life is not so hot, about 2 hours if your lucky. I rarely use it on battery but if you do, get a spare for it.
