My Sunny Boy 4000US inverter has been on-line since August 11, and has performed up to expectations. However, the Sunny Beam remote bluetooth monitoring module is still unavailable, even though if you go the SMA America web site they continue to show it as an available option. Without the Sunny Beam monitor you have to either stand in front of the Sunny Boy inverter and note the readout as it cycles through the parameter of interest, or have a web-based monitoring system installed at about double what the expected price of the portable Sunny Beam monitoring module is supposed to be. Plus, you have to run a phone line connection to your Sunny Boy inverter, and, of course, then monitor the inverter's performance using a computer with an Internet connection. Whereas the Sunny Beam monitor, if it ever becomes available, is a small, portable, stand-alone device that can be positioned inside your house at a convenient location, and doesn't require a computer to use (although it is supposed to have a USB port so you can connect it to your computer for a data transfer, if you wish). But, the driver is apparently Windows only, so if you have a Mac, you're out of luck, unless it's one of the newer Macs with an OS that can also run Windows.
So while I give high marks to SMA America for their line of inverters designed for solar voltaic systems, I have to give them only a three-star rating for advertising (for at least a year) an option that still isn't available. The supposed availability of the Sunny Beam bluetooth monitor, with its range of about 300 feet, was a material part of my decision to purchase the SMA Sunny Boy inverter. So, be warned.
