PLANTRONIC Calisto Headset with USB Dongle - 81493-02 Review

PLANTRONIC Calisto Headset with USB Dongle - 81493-02

I got this headset as a part of Dragon Naturally Speaking Premium 11 Bluetooth. It comes with a Bluetooth adapter but if your computer has built in Bluetooth, you do not rally need the adapter. Just pair it with your computer or cell phone or whatever other device like iPod that you may want to use. The headset is very comfortable in the ear.
This headset has only one button, which does all the functions, depending upon how long you press the button. Pressing and holding it for 2 seconds, turns the headset on. Pressing the button and holding it for 4 seconds, turns the headset off. And you turn the microphone on and off by pressing the headset for one second. Pushing the button up and down adjusts the volume. To pair it with another device, you press and hold it for 4-6 seconds until you see the red and blue flashing light. Interestingly, the other devices do not ask to you to put a pin or number while pairing, although on their web site it says 0000 is the code.
With Dragon NaturallySpeaking, it works really well. This review was dictated on Dragon Naturally Speaking.
1. But on Droid cell phone and iPad, there is intermittent background static heard.
2. One of the most annoying thing about the headset is proprietary charging cable. So you have to keep that cable with you to charge the headset. I cannot understand why they do not use the standard micro USB cable for charging.
3. The Bluetooth adapter also has a loose cover with no place to tuck it when adapter is plugged in and it is real easy to lose that cap.
4. Then of course, it is expensive, and you can find far cheaper Bluetooth headsets, if you just need it to work with your phone.
Other than those annoying aspects, I like this Bluetooth headset. It works really well with the Dragon NaturallySpeaking, my Droid phone, and iPad. I use it with Skype on iPad to make phone calls. Microphone is very good but earphones are average. Primarily this headset is for Dragon Naturally Speaking or their Calisto series Bluetooth phone system but it works with other devices like any other Bluetooth headset. So if you bought Dragon Naturally Speaking Premium 11 without the headset and you would like to be untethered then this Calisto Bluetooth will work very well.

Sennheiser ME3 Headset Microphone Review

Sennheiser ME3 Headset Microphone

I bought the Sennheiser wireless base unit and the mic it came with was all over the side of my head, it moved constantly.
It was the kind that fit over only one ear, it is flesh colored and looked good, but, as I preach and teach, it moved.
This mic is solid, a little cumbersome at first, but after our first concert (playing congas and doumbek) and teaching afterwards, I love it.
It stays put and works well, very solid.

xTag USB-Only System w/ One xTag Wearable Microphone Review

xTag USB-Only System w/ One xTag Wearable Microphone

If you own any voice recognition product, I thoroughly recommend the xTag USB Mic. I use MacSpeech Dictate and I hardly use the keyboard anymore. As a matter of fact, I'm not even typing this review right now. It's so much more convenient to grab the mic, clip it to your lapel and just talk. I highly recommend this item. I'm also a horrible speller. But, I don't have to worry about that, because the machine spells everything for me. If it makes a mistake I simply say, "scratch that" repeat the corrected word and it goes right on. The microphone is so unobtrusive when I dictate a letter are am charting patient notes, it's a breeze and sometimes, someone walkes into my office, I start talking to them... look back at my computer and realize my conversations on the screen. It's no bigger than a tube of lipstick. I have a very large monitor in my office, so I can be 5-8 feet from the USB wireless hub and it works just beautifully. Also I am using Rosetta Stone to learn other languages, and it works very well with that program as well. I'm so used to not typing now on my iMac, I purchased an xTag mic for my windows machine (for Dragon Naturally Speaking preferred). What's really, really neat about it, is when you need customer support from a company and all they offer is online chat where you have to type the message back-and-forth. I just grab my xTag USB mic and resolve the problem much, much quicker than if I were typing it out and trying to follow instruction on how to resolve the problem, all hands free, to do whatever the technician is telling me to do because...I'm not typing, I'm listening and responding as if they were in the room. Or if you are instant messaging someone on the computer, just talk. The keyboard no longer separates you. It truly is a revolutionary product and one that's helping usher in, not only talking to, but controlling your computer. And with an eight hour talk time and a 45 minute charge time, it's completely convenient and you won't even realize you're wearing it.

SpeechMike Air 3000 Review

SpeechMike Air 3000

This microphone is a joke. I bought this expecting it to work with the built-in Bluetooth on my laptop for use with Dragon. It does NOT work with the built-in Bluetooth, but requires a stupid dongle hanging off your USB port! That means every time I move my laptop, I risk breaking the dongle or have to disconnect it.
Worse, the dongle is tied to only 1 instance of the software, so you can't even share this microphone with more than 1 computer!
Returned this immediately upon finding this out. Shame on you, Philips. You need to make a true Bluetooth dictation microphone that will work with any Bluetooth computer, not this joke.
