Plantronics CS70 Wireless Headset Review

Plantronics CS70 Wireless Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After many disappointments with corded and wireless headsets and the unavailability of a Bluetooth(tm) option for our phone system, I purchased the CS70 because of its use of the 6.0 DECT (1.9 GHz) band, digitally-encrypted audio (Essential for our health care office, after having a local scanner hobbyist e-mail us some of our conversations from 5.8 GHz "analog" cordless telephones.), the reported 300 foot range, less chance of interference with 2.4 GHz WiFi networks (and the other myriad of gadgets in that crowded frequency band) and recommendations that the audio was "second to none."
Other cordless headsets that we had purchased in the past were useless when trying to communicate with some of our elderly, hard-of-hearing clients. The CS70 allows adjustments of both incoming and outgoing audio from moderate levels to almost painfully loud. At the highest volume settings it could almost qualify as a speaker phone in a quiet room! We have received many unsolicited compliments about our telephone call sound quality from the hard of hearing. Comments such as: "What telephone are you using? I can't understand anybody else on the telephone except when your office calls." Our clients who have difficulty hearing are much more likely to answer our calls when they see our number in the caller ID because of this. Apparently the Plantronics noise-cancelling and digital audio processing increases the intelligibility. The 64-bit audio encryption, sufficient for all but the most demanding security environments, does not degrade the audio quality - something that we noted with cordless telephones we've had in the past from Panasonic and Uniden that use FHSS or DSS ("frequency hopping spread spectrum" or "digital spread spectrum") although, as far as we know they are quite secure and our calls were never monitored successfully.
The optional Handset Lifter HL-10 is anything but "optional." It is a "must have" with this device. The whole point of having a cordless headset is not having to return to the base unit for every function - especially to pick up and hang up the phone! For the price Plantronics is charging, the HL-10 should be included. Furthermore, the HL-10's compatibility, even with models that are so listed on the Plantronics website, is a relative term that will require some ingenuity to insure reliability. In our experience, a small piece of Velcro(tm) to attach the handset to the lifter works wonders, but it took several hours of "trial and error" to figure this out. Use enough Velcro(tm) to secure the handset when moved by the lifter, but not so much that the handset cannot be easily removed without yanking the lifter out of position.
The biggest disappointment with the CS70 is the range. The listed "up to 300 feet" is a joke. Even in completely open terrain with no intervening walls in a flat rural area of Florida with no known powerful electromagnetic radiation sources. The best distance we could achieve was 60-75 feet and still have reliable, noise-free communications even with optimal base unit positioning in an elevated location away from all metal and other electronic devices. The range indoors, in an office environment, with sheetrock, non-metallic walls and the usual collection of office equipment and furniture drops to 50 feet AT BEST. With the metallic studs that are used as wall supports in many commercial building, the CS70 basically becomes a "line of sight" device over 25-30 feet. In one of our clinics, the range was so short that we thought that we had a defective unit. However, after exchanging it for another CS70, we got the same results. Of course, very few of us need a range of 300 feet, but it is very annoying to drop a call while making a short trip down the hall for a file. The short range reduces the CS70's usefulness as an aid to "multitasking." Could it be that the lack of an external antenna is responsible for this? Somebody needs to call Plantronics "on the carpet" for their bogus range claims.
The headset, although it appears bulky, is surprisingly comfortable. Battery life is outstanding. And the headset recharges rapidly, making it easy to use the CS70 all day. If you're a big talker, you might have to leave headset in the charger during lunch. We can't comment on battery longevity since we've only had the CS70's for a couple of months.
Although the CS70 touts its interference resistance, we've had trouble with the CS70 in our office near the airport. These problems did not affect the "frequency hopping" cordless phones in either the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz bands that we've had in the past. Also, some PDA telephones, like the Cingular 8125 and others, intermittently interfere with the CS70. Every few minutes there will be several seconds of static and the outgoing audio is dropped. What the source of this interference is, we still haven't determined. But it seems that it would have to either be the Bluetooth or WiFi transmitters.

Iqua Snake II Bluetooth Hands Free Headrest (Black) Review

Iqua Snake II Bluetooth Hands Free Headrest (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
- stylish and nice looking
- material gives nice feeling
- sound is clear,, sometimes if there is noise people will say to you "please close the speaker or raise your voice"
- the mic part i think it is getting a bit loose, but you can still put it the level you want
- the major problem is that it gets disconnected frequently by which you will need to press the sharing button again
- one othe major issue is that the one setting next to you will not feel comfortable when looking back, especially if you have children and your wife want to check them each and every second. (my uncle got a wound near to his eyes when he turned fast to get something from the rear seat, but this is the only incident during almost more than a year using the product)
- one good point is that within more than a year i charged it only few times, maybe 5 times. even though i leave it open all the time, but you may close it at night or whenever you don't use it so battery will stay longer.
i think after all, it is fine to get this product, it does the job, in addition to the nice looking that impresses people.

Chatter Box XBi2 Wireless Intercom - Full-Face Kit Review

Chatter Box XBi2 Wireless Intercom - Full-Face Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased a Chatter Box XBi2 Wireless Intercome with the full-face kit. I installed it into a full-face Scorpion helmet. The documentation provided with the Chatter Box XBi2 did very little in assisting me with the installation. By the way, the documentation with the Scorpion helmet did even less. If anyone purchasing the Chatter Box XBi2 feel they need instructions or doucmentation to help them figure out the appropriate way to operate and install the device, they will be greatly disappointed. If you can manage to get the Chatter Box installed and operating, it works just fine. Don't buy this item unless you are going to have it professionally installed or your mechanical/electronical skills are way above average.

theBoom Hands Free Noise Cancelling Telephone Headset Review

theBoom Hands Free Noise Cancelling Telephone Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The hype is, in fact, true. The microphone on this headset is MILES better than any other at noise rejection; and I have tried most of the competition. You can in fact have a coherent conversation in a hushed voice while a semi trailer is driving past you on the street. The caller on the other end doesn't hear "nothing"---but they don't hear anything distracting. In addition, the clunky silicone "ear funnel" makes it easy to hear callers even in loud conditions, even at 50% volume on my Blackberry.
That said, there are several real drawbacks:
1) As a previous reviewer noted, the wind rejection is not great. The included windscreen is too small; it helps but doesn't solve the problem. I work on roofs in windy Illinois, so this is a problem, but it's no worse than other headsets. I will try a giant fuzzy ball on my next Boom, to see if that can totally eliminate the sound of a 30MPH gust.
2) The Mic is very directional, so the "fading" the previous reviewer saw was probably due the the mic drifting out of the sweet spot ~ 1" away from and slightly above your mouth. Outside of that zone, the mic eliminates the "noise" of your voice very effectively! =)
3) The ear holder is uncomfortable after many hours. This product is not "dainty", and it comes with a tenacious moldable thing that holds the headset in place. To get a snug fit, you bend it tightly around your ear. After a few hours, this HURTS.
4) Build quality SUCKS. My first Boom broke, so I super-glued it. After a couple months it got stolen, so then I waited (and waited!) for them to release the new version. The new one broke again (in a different place) after a month, so I super-glued IT. Then it broke again (in a third place), and I glued it again, and now the adapter cord is broken so I can't use it until I get a replacement.
5) Support SUCKS. It took me NINE MONTHS to get my v4 Boom. During this time, they were totally out of stock. Then, they forgot I was on the pre-order list. Then they charged my credit card and didn't send the item. Finally, they sent the item (along with some tasty chocolate as a mea culpa). Then I lost the "ear funnel", and needed a replacement. Took me six phone calls to reach someone. Then it started breaking (see above). Ten phone calls later, I haven't reached a single human nor recieved a callback.
BOTTOM LINE: Their amazing technology solves the big problem for me: project a professional phone presence while still getting the work done. I spend about 4 hours per day on my cell phone, mostly outdoors and driving, so this is a Must Have. So I'm going to just buy the damn things in bulk and live with the crappy support and fragility. If talking with customers in a loud environment is not a necessity for you, go with something that doesn't work as well but is cheaper and less breakable.
If they start giving better support, in a way that I can tell is not just to appease me, I'll ammend this review.

Sony TDM-BT1 Digital Media Port Bluetooth Adaptor Review

Sony TDM-BT1 Digital Media Port Bluetooth Adaptor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this item two months ago and find a serious problem with that. When I tried to use it together with my Sony DVD Home Theater which has a wireless surrounding system, it failed to work. I have to either unplug the S-AIR model(which means you will have 3.1 surrounding instead of 5.1) or put my bluetooth devices close enough to the adaptor(which makes Bluetooth meaningless). I tried to swich the channel of the S-AIR but it failed to work. Either the adaptor or the S-AIR model doesn't work.
If your system doesn't have the S-AIR model, this item is perfect to buy. But if your system does include the S-AIR model, you'd better make another choice.

Jabra FreeSpeak Bluetooth Headset for non-Bluetooth phones with 2.5mm Jack Review

Jabra FreeSpeak Bluetooth Headset for non-Bluetooth phones with 2.5mm Jack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using mine with my Sony Ericsson T68i for about three months now. Setting the headset up took a little while to figure out, the documentation was just plain wrong. But once I paired the headset with my phone I was up and running.
PROS: No headset wires to get tangled up in. The phone can be in your pocket, on your belt, or in your purse. Also the shape and size makes it comfortable to wear for extended periods. It's lightweight and not bulky. Although the earpiece can plug directly into your ear I suspect it was designed to actually sit slightly outside your ear canal. You can adjust the volume directly from the earpiece and it can easily be switched to wear on either ear.
CONS: Although the sound is intelligble and loud, the overall quality is not as good as a corded headset. Also the sound quality appears to be inconsistent. Some days I'll get alot of static, other days I'll get a clear reception. Callers say that they are able to hear me clearly, but could also hear faint background noise, some have reported a very faint buzzing sound. The Bluetooth signal overall is pretty weak, sometimes turning your head slightly can result in static. Not having a clear line of sight between the headset and phone can sometimes result in static. I found that it's best to keep the phone within 3 or 4 feet. But sometimes I couldn't get a connection to my phone even when my phone is sitting right next to me! I suspect other 2.4ghz radio signals in the area were jamming me.
Overall the headset isn't bad, but unless you do alot of talking or HAVE to have the latest gadget & technology, you may want to wait for the next generation of Bluetooth headsets. I suspect future headsets will have better range and sound quality. The average consumer might want to wait till the Bluetooth sound quality matches corded headset quality.

PLANTRONIC Calisto Headset with USB Dongle - 81493-02 Review

PLANTRONIC Calisto Headset with USB Dongle - 81493-02
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this headset as a part of Dragon Naturally Speaking Premium 11 Bluetooth. It comes with a Bluetooth adapter but if your computer has built in Bluetooth, you do not rally need the adapter. Just pair it with your computer or cell phone or whatever other device like iPod that you may want to use. The headset is very comfortable in the ear.
This headset has only one button, which does all the functions, depending upon how long you press the button. Pressing and holding it for 2 seconds, turns the headset on. Pressing the button and holding it for 4 seconds, turns the headset off. And you turn the microphone on and off by pressing the headset for one second. Pushing the button up and down adjusts the volume. To pair it with another device, you press and hold it for 4-6 seconds until you see the red and blue flashing light. Interestingly, the other devices do not ask to you to put a pin or number while pairing, although on their web site it says 0000 is the code.
With Dragon NaturallySpeaking, it works really well. This review was dictated on Dragon Naturally Speaking.
1. But on Droid cell phone and iPad, there is intermittent background static heard.
2. One of the most annoying thing about the headset is proprietary charging cable. So you have to keep that cable with you to charge the headset. I cannot understand why they do not use the standard micro USB cable for charging.
3. The Bluetooth adapter also has a loose cover with no place to tuck it when adapter is plugged in and it is real easy to lose that cap.
4. Then of course, it is expensive, and you can find far cheaper Bluetooth headsets, if you just need it to work with your phone.
Other than those annoying aspects, I like this Bluetooth headset. It works really well with the Dragon NaturallySpeaking, my Droid phone, and iPad. I use it with Skype on iPad to make phone calls. Microphone is very good but earphones are average. Primarily this headset is for Dragon Naturally Speaking or their Calisto series Bluetooth phone system but it works with other devices like any other Bluetooth headset. So if you bought Dragon Naturally Speaking Premium 11 without the headset and you would like to be untethered then this Calisto Bluetooth will work very well.

My company uses the cheap Plantronics wire headset with the latest Avaya phone system. The Plantronics wire headset is terrible. There is always static & customers complain they can't hear me & the headset leaves an indention in your hair. We are constantly changing the cords or the headset & I got fed up & bought the wireless. I can hear so clearly that I have to set the earpiece at the lowest sound setting & it is comfortable all day. With my Microsoft wireless mouse I am completely wire free. This pays for itself after a year. I figure I'm on the phone 8 hours a day so the $250.00 price is worth it. I don't need the phone lifter because the Avaya phone we use works directly. Call comes in & my earpiece beeps & I press the button on the earpiece & start talking. The only quibble is that with the foam earpiece I hear the conversation echo. With the soft plastic earpiece I hear a slight echo if I am talking to a co- worker with the mouthpiece down. If I put the mouthpiece up I do not hear the echo but I always forget to put the mouthpiece down again when a call comes in. Other than that this thing is Money. Bluetooth headsets come in a variety of shapes and sizes, the Jabra JX10 Bluetooth headset stands apart as one of the most unusual models I have seen, not to say this is a bad thing. With its fine lines and eye catching design, the JX10 is a very distinctive headset.
The industrial looking Jabra JX10 is a solid, well built device that offers its users fine audio quality, comfort, and stability. The JX10 has an aluminum body full of angles and curves with matte black accents. The aluminum silver base proved quite resistant to scratches and dings when out in the wild.

I bought the Sennheiser wireless base unit and the mic it came with was all over the side of my head, it moved constantly.
It was the kind that fit over only one ear, it is flesh colored and looked good, but, as I preach and teach, it moved.
This mic is solid, a little cumbersome at first, but after our first concert (playing congas and doumbek) and teaching afterwards, I love it.
It stays put and works well, very solid.

Jabra GN9350 DECT 6.0 Wireless Dual-Functional Office/VoIP Headset System with DSP Technology (9326-607-405) Review

Jabra GN9350 DECT 6.0 Wireless Dual-Functional Office/VoIP Headset System with DSP Technology (9326-607-405)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is probably the best wireless headset available now. Excellent sound quality, great range, many controls over audio tone and loudness in the earpiece. There are only two minor problems with this headset: It's a little finicky to put back in the cradle, and you get just the slightest echo of your own voice in the earpiece. (Very slight, and can be ignored easily, but the Plantronics does not have these problems.)
The unit has excellent range, and I suffered no loss of audio quality at all when moving anywhere in my house, even with a WiFi network active.
Compared to the Plantronics CS50/CS55, the Jabra GN9350e comes out on top, for the following reasons:
-Jabra has better more natural sounding audio quality when you speak, with better frequency response. Plantronics headsets make your voice sound somewhat tinny and muffled by comparison.
-Jabra has a MUCH better speaker in the earpiece than Plantronics. The Jabra earpiece has pretty good audio quality; not as good as a wired headset, but pretty good. The sound quality you hear in the Plantronics headset is just bad.
-This unit will work with both a PC and a DECT cordless phone. The Plantronics CS50 is PC only, but the CS55 can do DECT.
-If you don't have a DECT phone, this unit can also hook into any standard phone that has a corded handset. Plantronics can't do that.
Audio quality when using it with a normal phone is basically perfect.
Some nitpicks: I didn't find the leatherette ear cushion comfortable. You'll want to swap it out for a foam one. Also the included cord for hooking it to your phone necessitates it being right next to the phone. Also, the USB cable is short and mini-USB on the base-unit end, so if you need a longer cable you'll need to find one elsewhere. It would be nice if they included more "over-the-ear" earpieces like Plantronics does, but I find them uncomfortable and use the over-the-head ban anyway.
One last thing: Although this unit works great with normal phone and Skype, both this unit and the Plantronics have degraded audio quality when using Teamspeak. After extensive testing, I can definitely tell you it's a Teamspeak specific issue; a wired headset will give you much better speaking-audio quality with TS (But with Skype/Googletalk/Phone these units are great). The Jabra is usable with TS, but your friends will prefer you use the wired headset. The Plantronics is basically unusable with Teamspeak because the bad quality of the Plantronics speaker, coupled with the lackluster audio reproduction of TS, makes it difficult to understand your friends when using TS with the Plantronics. With the Jabra you can still hear clearly on TS, even if your own voice is somewhat degraded.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with this headset. The Plantronics FEELS like a sturdier, better made unit, and is more ergonomic, but ultimately the audio quality differences overcome that and put the Jabra on top.
