(More customer reviews)This is definitely not a 1-star product.
I just got this yesterday and I wanted to put out some feedback quickly so I can help anybody considering this product.
First, you should know my background. I am on a T-Mobile pay-as-you-go plan because I don't use my mobile phone much. My annual mobile phone bill is between one and two hundred dollars. Everybody that I know has one of the fancy smartphones, but I didn't want to pay a large sum for an unlocked phone. I also didn't want to sign up for an expensive monthly plan with 2-year contract. I was making do with a 7-year old Motorola A630 phone, but was looking for something that will let me have a "fancy" phone without having to spend a lot of money. Oh, I really don't need to browse or check mail on the road (or when I am outside the house).
I was also in the market for a nice MP3 player with a FM tuner built-in. I know that there are many choices for that, but I was holding out for something better than what I currently have without spending too much money.
BLU Tango seemed to have everything I needed and wanted, so I purchased it. Unlocked mobile phone with built in MP3 player and FM tuner with Android 2.2. What else could I ask for?
- I removed T-Mobile sim card from my current phone and inserted into BLU tango. That's all I needed to do. Within seconds BLU Tango mobile phone was functional.
- Camera and music player wouldn't work without the Micro SD card. Fortunately I had ordered a 8 GB card for less than 15, which arrived yesterday also. Once I placed the card into the slot, camera started working. Video capture also worked fine. Once I copied some music files to the SD card, I could play music fine.
- FM tuner wouldn't work without the ear buds. Once I inserted the supplied ear buds, FM tuner worked.
- Connecting the device to my home network took about 2 minutes and much of that time was spent on inputting my network password (key).
- Android market place was on the 3rd page of the main menu. I could go there sign-up with Google, and installed Amazon kindle in about 10 or 15 minutes.
- I watched my own video on YouTube (that I had uploaded earlier) without any hassle.
- I played a game (supplied with the device) to my satisfaction.?? I think the external speaker is activated automatically when the ear buds are removed. There is no way to have both. That means we can't play FM radio on the speaker? If you know of a way to accomplish that, please post a comment to this review.
?? Windows 7 computer can not recognize the device (no driver) when connected via USB. I had to remove the Micro SD card from the device and use it in a card reader. If anybody has a solution to this problem please post a comment.
?? Would I be able to install Amazon AppStore if my computer can not recognize the device? I will try to figure this out and update the review.
I found that the touch-screen is a little annoying because the response is unreliable and unpredictable. I hope I will learn to use it more effectively. I was able to type using the on-screen keyboard, but it wasn't great. Given the small size, I can put up with this inconvenience than carry a gigantic phone everywhere.
Yes, the manufacturer's Web site has no information. There is a 800 number on the manual, but that seems to be for warranty only. I hope I don't have to call them for any support!
So far, I am very glad that I came upon this device and purchased it. I will update this review as I use the product and find out more about it.
Update 4/11/2011:
- It is possible to listen to FM radio on external speaker. FM Radio context menu has an option to do that and works well.
- It is possible to see the Micro SD card on Win 7 computer via USB connection. Please see comments on how to do it.
- GPS worked well.
- The touch screen is not as bad as I felt a couple of days ago.
- I entered my contact list into a CSV file and imported into my Gmail account. They came into my phone contact list without having to do anything.
I don't have any reason to hold back the star rating now, so increasing it to 5-star.
Update 04/13/2011:
I found an easier way to enable USB reading. After connecting to the computer's USB, use Menu -> Notifications. There will be an option for USB connection. I guess this is Android function and has nothing to do with the phone.
Update 5/18/2011:
Battery charge barely lasts one whole day with just music playback and minimal phone use. That is after I disabled wireless and bluetooth. So, it is better to be able to charge the phone at work during the day. I didn't have a micro USB cable so, I ordered this one:BlackBerry USB DataSync and Charging Cable with Micro USB for BlackBerry 8900, 9500, and 8220. At 1.29, it is well worth it.
With one free Android app every day on Amazon, I am enjoying this device very much. Still keeping it at 5 star rating despite annoyingly low battery life.
