Sony WAHTSD1 Wireless Kit for Rear Speakers Review

Sony WAHTSD1 Wireless Kit for Rear Speakers
Average Reviews:

This item was purchased several weeks ago for the new home theater system also recently purchased. It works great, the surround sound is just as great as the non-wireless alternatives. There is no delay in the sound transmission and it is very nice not to have to worry about all the wires. Definately worth the price and the 2 days it took for shipping. I would recommend this item highly for those who are interested in the wireless components.

Samsung HT-DB390TH Wireless Home Theater System Review

I was skeptic when I bought DB390 because wireless rear speakers is a new technology implementation using bluetooth. I was pleasantly surprised when it took me little effort to set it up following the manual and the wireless receiver works well.
My main concern was that I have 802.11b/g router that uses 2.4Ghz also, and I have a wireless bluetooth headset, but so far everything works great! I haven't had any issue when using all my devices (wireless network, DB390, and headset) at the same time!

Offering the elusive attributes of simplicity and convenience to anyone seeking quality home entertainment, Samsung's shining HT-DB390 delivers DVD and music playback in dynamic surround sound--without the need to drape speaker wires across your living room for the surround speakers. That's right: the HT-DB390 comes with a special high-bandwidth 2.4 GHz digital wireless transmitter that beams the data for the system's left and right surround speakers right to them, so you can enjoy enveloping multichannel surround sound without the fuss of drilling holes or hiding speaker cables. The front left, right, and center speakers all use cables, of course (supplied), but--being closer to the system's unified DVD player/surround receiver--they'll be relatively unobtrusive. The HT-DB390 spins DVD-Video, high-resolution DVD-Audio, DVD-R/-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) CD, as well as JPEG image CD--great for living-room slide shows of your digital photos. The amplifier delivers 60 watts per channel to each of the system's 5 compact satellite speakers, while the stand-alone subwoofer packs a hefty 100 watts for wall-whopping bass. A built-in AM/FM tuner comes with 30 station presets for easy tuning to your favorite stations. All major movie and music surround signals are decoded and routed to their appropriate speakers: multichannel DVD-Audio, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II (which generates 5.1 surround from any stereo source, whether movie or music), and DTS 5.1-channel surround sound. The system includes an AM/FM radio tuner with 30 preset memory settings, and a headphone jack for private or late-night listening.DVD-Audio discs offer super high-fidelity sound, providing 192 kHz/24-bit multichannel and/or stereo sound (depending on the disc), high storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. These discs often have compressed Dolby Digital soundtracks for listening on standard DVD players, but true DVD-A decoding such as this system provides is required for full sonic appreciation. The system's progressive-scan component-video output prepares you for the future, with the ability to use the system in conjunction with a high-definition or HD-ready television. Smooth progressive-scan images are free from even the slightest hint of blurring or distortion, bringing new realism to DVD movies and other selections. The HT-DB390 also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; reverse 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.Auxiliary audio/video inputs let you connect additional components like your VCR to the system. What's in the Box DVD player/integrated surround amplifier, 4 satellite speakers, a center speaker, a powered subwoofer, AM/FM antennas, a wireless transmitter, a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, all requisite cabling.

Yamaha YHT-591BL Home Theater in a Box (Black) Review

Yamaha YHT-591BL Home Theater in a Box (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own and operate a LifeStyle tech firm and home theater installation is a part of what I do. I researched quite a few systems for my own home that fit my particular application and selected the YHT-591IBL (HTR-6240) for a couple of reasons. The system was going into a small cabinet without a lot of venting so it needed to run cool, especially with a laptop, Wii, speaker control system, sub-woofer and IR receiver in the same cabinet. I did not want to see any wires or devices on the deck of my custom built-in wall unit. I also did not want overpowering aesthetics of the speakers themselves--but was unwilling to sacrifice the sound quality. After everything was installed, configured and tuned for the space, I sat down and watched "The Dark Night on my 55" Samsung 8000 LED. It was as if I was holding a video recorder on set, filming it--wow! When the building blew near the end of the movie, the sub-woofer kicked in and I lost a few chochkas off the shelf of the wall unit and subsequently needed to ratchet that speaker down a bit. I love it.
I will agree on the instruction set. I am technical so was able to get through it, but I do not think that any Home Theater System--aside from the Yamaha neoHD Media Controller is for the faint hearted. Yes, you can take it out of the box, follow the pictures and get it to work well, but like any system, these platforms need configuration and tuning to make them sing--and they sing beautifully.
A couple of notes:
- I needed to upgrade the Yamaha receiver (HTR-6240) firmware to get my Wii to work through the HDMI out of the receiver (hi geek factor on that) instead of running separate USB cable to LED Monitor.
- Added Xantech IR receiver (drilled a hole in between my cabinet doors an placed a beautiful brass eye to receive the IR signal). It is way cool looking and sleek.
- Added Logitech Harmony One Universal.
- Added the Yamaha iPod doc.

Once you figure out how to attach the Yamaha speaker tuner antenna and take the time to set it up on a camera tripod so you can get it at perfect ear level. The test itself is a piece of cake. I did not even need to balance beyond the test. Make sure you do not have obstructions in front of the speakers or any other music, TV or family members talking during the test.

Remotes that come with any manufacturer's product are great for that product and maybe the STB and DVD, so go get a universal remote, such as Logitech Harmony series. The Yamaha neoHD looks promising, but was overkill for my Yamaha and Xantech IR Receivers (LCD/CFL Proof Micro Link IR Receiver).

Are there better systems out there--absolutely, but for this application, this is as good as it gets. My guests all want the same rigs in their homes....

SAMSUNG HT-BD8200 BLU-RAY HOME THEATER SYSTEM Review

This system is great! However, I will add that your satisfaction with this system will depend upon your expectations. What I expected was easy setup, great sound, and a clean streamlined look. The setup took 10 minutes once I unpacked it, two power plugs and two wires and I was done. The sound was great since all I previously had was the TV speakers. Since my LCD is wall mounted over the fireplace, maintaining a streamlined look was very important!

If you want HD audio and own a blu-ray player that decodes the HD audio codec's (ps3 does) this is the best home theater in a box system you can get. The speakers are a beautiful gloss black that really impressed me with the quality and connectors. This system comes with the Yamaha 6140 receiver that does accept PCM (HD audio) via HDMI. This is not a pass through system it accepts audio via HDMI unlike most home theater in a box systems. The only thing that could have made this a perfect set up would have been if it came with a larger sub but for the size of this one it does sound good but if your going for huge rumble you may want to upgrade the sub but other than that is a very nice set up. Btw you can usually find this for $650(shipped) or under if you look around.

Yamaha RX-V463BL 525 Watt 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Review

Yamaha RX-V463BL 525 Watt 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this reciever based on a review I read from audioholics and I figured why not just post it for everyone to read. I couldn't agree more with their review. It is a solid receiver for the $299 amazon price.
2008 has started off with some amazing prices and features being offered on budget A/V receivers. Just as the new high-end receivers gain new features and new technologies, so do the receivers on the low end of the price spectrum. This is the first time that basic HDMI functionality has been offered on receivers for under $350. This is a winning situation for everyone. Most would think that $350 would not get you anything of quality and in the past that would be correct; Not so anymore. The RX-V463 is a feature laden piece of gear that far from your budget receiver of the past. With impressive audio processing power the Yamaha RX-V463 dives into territory once occupied by receivers costing twice as much or more. Those features include things such as 192kHz/24-bit DACs for all channels, 6-channel external decoder input, iPod and Bluetooth compatibility (via optional Yamaha YDS-10 YBA-10 docking modules) and YPAO for automatically optimizing the sound in your room. And if thats not enough for you then how about 3 HDTV compatible component video inputs, 8 DSP programs, a compressed music (MP3) enhancer, and the ability to view iPod song titles displayed on the front panel and OSD, Dolby Digital and DTS processing, and XM- and XM HD-ready. That is one heck of a feature set for a sub-$350 receiver.
With a rated power of 100 watts x 5 the RX-V463 is no pansy when it comes to power either. Yamaha has offered more bang for your buck than most for a while now, and this budget receiver continues in this tradition. And with Yamaha's power ratings being very conservative, it is not unreasonable to think this little receiver will beat its rated specs. In short, there is more than enough power being offered here.
In addition to dual HDMI switching inputs, there are three component inputs, three S-video inputs, and three composite video inputs - each with one output as well. For audio, five analog stereo inputs, 6.1 analog inputs, two TOSlink inputs and one coaxial digital input round out the receiver. The RX-V463 also has real binding posts instead of those cheap spring clip terminals that so often plague other budget units.Like all of the newest Yamaha receivers, setup is could not be any easier with the addition of the on-screen Setup menu. This is a noteworthy feature in itself on a budget receiver. While it is not as advanced as the system found on more expensive Yamaha receivers, it is accurate and easy. Also offered is a new feature called SCENE buttons. SCENE buttons are like macros that are preprogrammed to launch a variety of commands. Build quality is very good and the unit weighs a solid 17.6 lbs. This is a great budget receiver.

Yamaha YHT-390BL Home Theater in a Box (Black) Review

Yamaha YHT-390BL Home Theater in a Box (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spent months picking a stereo system; reading reviews, listening to different systems at big box stores, and ultimately settled on this one.
The reason is simple: this 5.1 system sounded better than any other I tested, even those that cost twice as much! The sound quality of this system is simply amazing at this price. You could drop 3x as much on a Bose system and be less satisfied.
Pros:
2 HDMI inputs with full 1080p pass through. Have a lot of devices? No worries. You can connect a game console, a cable box, and a DVD player, all with zero loss of resolution and picture quality. There are more expensive systems that lack this feature. However, the audio pass through from HDMI cable goes directly to your tv, meaning you have to run a separate digital sound cable from your DVD player or CableBox. Not that big a deal as optical and digital cables are cheap these days, but it does mean one more cable to worry about. Here is a very reasonable Optical Digital Audio Cable and here is a Digital Audio Cable - both of which would be perfect.
Amazing sound quality. This system has a powered sub woofer, which is a MUST for high quality, deep bass. Other systems in this price range lack this feature. The speakers are solid wood construction. Although not glamorous, they feel so much better than plastic, and will still be around when cheaply made plastic bodied speakers are in a land fill.
The speaker themselves produce accurate, high quality sound, from the highest highs to deep bass. I put them through their paces with both DVDs and music CDs, and everything I threw at them sounded wonderful. (My test included "Hero," "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," and "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi," to test the surround sound processing. For music quality, I tested "The Killers: Sam's Town," "Copeland's Clarinet Concerto," and "Metallica: S&M."). Surround sound processing was great in entertain: surround mode. This system has made watching movies and TV a new experience!
High quality build from the amp to the speakers. Some other systems I considered ran VERY hot (Like the Onkyo HT-SR800). You could feel the heat coming off the amp without even touching it. This system runs a lot cooler, and makes me less worried about it burning out. It also helps the other devices in my audio cabinet stay cool and happy.
Many pre-sets, and a reasonably well designed remote. The remote is functional but not exceptional. One of my few frustrations with the system is it's limited ability to change the speaker pre-sets. You can only switch between a few of them with the remote. I frequently have to change them by hand using the buttons on the front of the amp. I've adjusted to this my making use of the four presets for "DVD watching, TV Watching CD Listening, and Radio Listening" each of which you can assign your own audio presets. Now, depending on what I want to watch, I can hit 1 button and I'm done. My wife loves this feature as she can get a DVD going in about five seconds without headaches!
Cons:
The speaker wire that comes with the set is thin. Spend the cash to get some good 16 gauge wire (and by good, I don't mean overpriced Monster brand wiring!). Any solid 16 gauge wire will work. This speaker wire would be a reasonably priced option.
This system has exceeded my expectations. I have some quibbles with the remote design, but presets take care of the majority of them. If you want amazing sound from a 5.1 system for under $400, you can't do better. You can even spend twice as much and get less for your money than you do with the Yamaha YHT-390BL.

I wanted a nice sound system to compliment my Sony 40-inch LCD screen. Originally I purchased Onkyo 3100, however, it did not have any HDMI connections and it would cause the video to stutter on programs in HD. I wanted the Onkyo 5100 but the speakers were simply enormous. I decided to go with Yamaha YHT-590 because of the receiver and the slim looking speakers. The installation took about 45 minutes as I had to cut and splice the thin looking wire (18 gauge). Once plugged in everything sounded excellent. Cannon fire in Master and Commander and the Pirates of the Caribbean was thundering and simply mind blowing. Depth charges in Das Boot...well you have to hear it to really appreciate it. :-).
One of the previous reviewers stated that the center speaker had to be turned down to hear the dialogue and such. Setup options in the receiver allow for numerous tweaks and options which you'll want to play with as the size of your room and the room acoustics will differ from user to user. I have an odd living room with the kitchen right next to it. I had to manually adjust the distance from the speakers to our sitting position to fully optimize the sound. There are also options that will allow you to adjust audio volume from source to source....Again, to fully enjoy any HT system you'll have to spend an hour or so to make sure its configured properly. Also, of note is that I wanted to upgrade the cheap looking wire and I purchased Monster XP which is a 14 gauge thick wire. It did not make any difference in sound whatsoever....Overall, very pleased with this system, looks great and it sounds even better. Highly recommended.

Got this one for Xmas. Took me less than an hour to set it up with my DirectV HD-DVR with HDMI cable. Has to order extra HDMI cable. Instruction is not very clear on the DVR hook up. It took some guessing but eventually hooking up with no problem. iPhone dock is not included and costs another $100. Ouch. We are enjoying the sound quality, especially for movie watching. Only minor complaint about the size of the subwoofer is a bit bigger than we thought (approx. 14 inches cube). The SCENE button for TV only work for using "component video cable" hook up. I used HDMI cable for my HD-DVR, therefore, I can't use the "TV" on the SCENE button. Very minor issue. Overall, it's a very enjoyable system.

Overall I'm pleased with the YHT-495. The receiver and sub make the cost justified and are nice units however as with most HTIB systems something has to be lacking to achieve the reasonable price and in this case its the speakers. While they do an pretty adequate job the claim of them being 100w thus matching the receiver's max output per channel is false as the box they come in clearly says 80w.
The center channel speaker could be a bit improved perhaps with settings but initially I would say that the front speakers and even surround/rears overpower the voice.
The sub-woofer does put out some nice bass and coupled with the receivers abilities make this a good buy when compared to other systems.
I can see a speaker (at least rear) upgrade in the future but overall this does offer an immersive sound for movie, music and TV in general when 5.1 is offered.

If you're looking for a great home theater system at an affordable price this is it. I have had no problems passing through all of my 3D content to my TV from this home theater system. There is a ton of control for the audio and even offers automatic and manual lip syncing. If you're an audio/video nut and you notice lips being off from audio by only the slightest bit then this is the home theater system for you. The active subwoofer is outstanding for its size. Overall, the whole home theater system is a great value and everything you'd expect. Everything you see on the amazon page for this home theater is true as far as specifications.

Okay, so first lets start with what has not been listed in the product listing:
Blu-ray Profile 2.0 compliant for playback of BD Live material on compatible discs(needs internet connection)
Upconverts DVDs selectable 480i/480p/720p/1080i/1080p output via HDMI
Plays Blu-ray discs, DVD-Video discs, DVD-RAM, DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs, DVD+Rs, & DVD+RWs
Plays CDs, audio CD-Rs, CD-RWs, CD+Rs, CD+RWs, & MP3 CDs
Plays digital picture CDs (JPEG) and DivX videos
Built-in decoding for Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital True HD, DTS, and DTS-HD Master Audio (No DTS ES Discrete 6.1
DTS 96/24 DTS Neo 6)
3-channel amplifier (133 watts x 2 for front speakers, 134 watts for subwoofer)
Has a USB port for connecting an optional thumb drive or hard drive
Wi-Fi capable (needs optional USB adapter) and Ethernet port
Built-in support for Netflix movie and Pandora music services (you need to subscribe)
Has built-in iPod dock with audio, video, and iPhone support
Bluetooth-enabled (listen to your TV with a wireless Bluetooth headset)
No component or composite inputs
No coax input
No XM or AM radioSo, with all of these features, I can tell you that this is ok if you have a small space and no children. The finish is very glossy and shows every bit of dust and fingerprints and likely will easily scratch. The sound is a bit lacking when compared to a a true 7.1 system with a good (Onkyo) receiver. So, even though this decodes DTS-HD as well as DD True HD, it's kind of useless with this system. While it will decode those, you will not really get to appreciate it. Also, the sub is a bit weak. You have a 3 channel amp to run 2 speakers and the sub. So, if you simply do not have the room and you have to worry about neighbors, this is an okay system. I was thinking about giving this 4 stars, but after all, you can do better without spending that much more.
