Altec Lansing SoundBar Speakers Review

Altec Lansing SoundBar Speakers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am no audiophile. I just needed/wanted decent sound for a new computer I bought that did not come with speakers (I wasn't interested in buying the optional computer speakers because I wanted decent sound since I planned on using my 22" monitor to watch movies across the room). SO, I read A Lot of reviews on Many different speakers and chose the Altec Lansing SoundBar Speakers. They never received Rave reviews nor did many have horrible things to report. That was interesting (often items get "polar reviews"). I braved the $40 bargain and hoped I hadn't wasted what I thought was half of what I should pay for a decent computer speaker. I AM VERY happy with my new speakers let me tell you why:
PROS:
1- Volume is loud enough to hear movies 10-12' across room
2- Sound is rich enough to listen to music files 10-12' away!
3- Handy volume dial AND mute function at fingertips!
4- Optional headphone jack on side of unit!
5- You probably won't wake the neighbor with this speaker!
CONS:
1 - A power cord and speaker cable exit the back (it cannot run on batteries). This is not a "portable" speaker if that is what you need.
2- It sits a little too high for my new monitor. I don't know why it was designed to sit 1" off the desk (it would be perfect height for me if it didn't, so I put my computer on a platform and put the mouse there when not in use).
3- A little "bulky" looking - do not buy it for its looks!
4- You probably won't wake the neighbor.
After a week of testing, I can honestly report that this speaker has surprised me! The Altec Lansing SoundBar Speaker has impressed me with it's rich sound, volume capability, convenience features and saved me from paying what I thought I Had to for decent sound!!!

JBL On Tour Portable Speaker System ( Black ) Review

JBL On Tour Portable Speaker System ( Black )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So far I've used the On Tour with my 8GB Sandisk Sansa - they make a perfect pair (looks too). The speakers are clear sounding, with pleasant bass and clear mid-highs (not tinny). They are used when we're traveling and based in a hotel room, and are a perfect alternative to headphones. Since they are not boom box sized, they're not going to fill a large room with sound, but for a small to mid-sized room they work just fine. I used to pack an old pair of computer speakers - these give me similar performance without the bulk.
I nixed a star because the AC adapter has to be stored separately, and has that thin wire that twists up too easily. Additionally JBL should have included a pouch for the AC adapter, but I'll improvise a solution. Overall highly recommended.

Jawbone JAMBOX (Red Dot) Review

Jawbone JAMBOX (Red Dot)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I decided to try out this highly rated bluetooth speaker for my iPad and iPhone and was shocked at its ease of use, sound quality, small footprint, portability and long battery life. I liked the choice of colors which makes these small speakers standout and easy to spot. When I first opened the package, I was pleased that the company included several high quality cords including both short and long micro USB cords for recharging and computer synching, charge adapter, and a tangle-free audio cord for non-bluetooth sources. You can create an account on the Jawbone MyTALK site to download voice profiles and apps. In pairing mode, it easily connected with all of our iPads and iPhones. I tested the iPad first with Netflix, Pandora, Hulu+, Air Video Server, and iTunes. Considering that the speaker is only the size of 2 stacked Wii controllers, the sound was surprisingly strong, clear, full-bodied, and free of hisses or pops that I have experienced with other bluetooth speakers and maintained the bluetooth connection without a single drop. Next, I paired both an iPhone 4 and 3Gs and both easily paired with the speaker. I ran Pandora and tested the speakerphone function which worked nicely. You can program a quickdial number that can be immediately dialed by pushing the round botton on the top when paired with a phone. You can download apps for voice commands which I didn't try since I rarely ever use, but the transmission and receiving sound quality is quite good. The next day, I went to work in the operating room and everyone was curious when I pulled out the small speaker and placed my iPhone by its side. There's no need to bring any cords which is the real advantage of using this speaker for true convenient portability. When I started playing my Pandora selections from the iPhone, no one in the O.R. could believe it was coming out of this small speaker. It obviously isn't going to challenge a Bose SoundDock or Dr. Dre Beatbox, but we all had a pleasant day in the operating room doing a full day of cases with great tunes and the speaker lasted the entire day using only 50% of the battery life. At home, I was surprised when my son was playing games on the iPad downstairs and the sound was coming through the Jambox speakers located upstairs with perfect clarity. I researched all of the bluetooth speakers currently available, and this stands out by far. Personally, I prefer using this small speaker which I can pull out of my labcoat, rather than carrying around a large heavy sounddock with cords shoved in a bag. I now leave the sounddock in my office. The only reason I didn't rate this 5-stars is due to the sticker-shocker price which I personally feel is a bit excessive and would be more competitive in the $150 - $170 range. At the $200 pricepoint, most people are audiophiles and will likely make the unfair comparison to larger sounddocks. On the other hand, this is perfect for people like myself willing to sacrifice a bit of room-filling base-rumbling sound for a truly portable wireless speaker with accurate sound reproduction. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and will buy another when and if the price drops.

Jawbone Jambox Wireless Speaker and Bluetooth Speakerphone Review

Jawbone Jambox Wireless Speaker and Bluetooth Speakerphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is seriously one of the coolest accessories I have ever seen. This is a great product that completely exceeded my expectations.
Uses:
- The Jambox is perfect for a full, quality sound in a limited space (1-2 rooms) and for any casual gathering.
- It is not intended as a system replacement that would fill 10 rooms of a house party with club volume sound.
Pros:
- The speakers sound great at all but the very loudest setting with strong highs/mids and surprisingly good bass from such a tiny system. Great sound from both Pandora (free content) and iTunes (AAC 192 K VBR compression).
- Better sounding than any other tiny speaker systems (not fairly compared with any of the high end iPod/iPhone dock systems)
- The pairing from both my iPhone and iPad was a snap and I was pleasantly surprised I can keep both paired at the same time.
- Elegant and solid physical design that is in a class all its own (nothing else comes close at this size)
- Polished interface and software design with upgradable firmware and feature add-ons. I plan to test this soon.
- Smaller and more solid than expected
- Excellent speaker-phone performance (as expected from Jawbone). Others could not tell I was on a speaker-phone.
- The battery came fully charged.
- High end packaging (iPhone inspired no doubt) that contained a large array of cables (unlike iPhone). Cons:
- The range is ok but probably closer to 20 or 25 feet and not the 35 claimed.
- As expected the Bluetooth doesn't work through walls (at least not the solid walls with oil paint used in my apartment, which also severely hampers our wi-fi).
- Price is steep but I consider that the cost of miniaturization and early adoption. I would not be surprised to see this come down to $150 in a few months.

iLuv i399 Hi-Fi Bluetooth Speaker System for iPod (Black) Review

Average Reviews:

If you like a lot of bass in your music, you are going to like this product, in my opinion it sounds great. As for the connectivity, it works pretty good for me as well, however, I have not really made full use of the blue pin technology that the unit comes with. But it seems to be working OK as far as I have tested it.
This design is very high tech, and when the lights are dimmed, the blue glow looks awesome. This unit can be powered by 8 'D' size batteries, so it can be taken on picnics, or just outdoors when hanging out with friends.
iLUV is a brand that is produced by jWIN, so if you make the purchase, I recommend that as soon as get it that you test it fully, to make sure that it is working properly, and that you are satisfied with the quality.

These are without a doubt the best portable speaker system I have ever heard. Hands down far and above way ahead of the anything else on the market.
First I do not work for these people in case there is any doubt about the veracity of what I am saying here.
The speakers are extremely durable, rock sold construction and connect flawlessly to my iphone, my macbook pro, macbook, either by bluetooth or directly.
I don't know what the problem was with the other person who reviewed them and stated he had a problem, no such thing, these perform FLAWLESSLY, ACROSS THE BOARD!
I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination. I am a old school audio person, if it sounds good to my naked ear then its AOK!
AND
These sound absolutely suburb, just really unbelievable. I can not tell you how long I have been waiting for something like this to come out that is portable and performs as stated in the information provided to consumers. Imagine, no wires, and great stereo sound and its a hands free device all rolled into one.
All I need now is for Sound Matters to come out with a powered portable subwoofer to go along with this little gem!
Really folks you will not be sorry worth every single cent! Do not hesitate if they are in stock ORDER THEM RIGHT AWAY!
P.S. Their Customer service is impeccable. I had a small problem and they shipped me a new speaker RIGHT AWAY.
I've been told they are working on a small portable subwoofer to go along with this unit and we should be seeing this soon!

Great screen that gives you the ability to watch DVD's straight from your car dash. I have one of these installed in my '91 Lincoln and it works great. Also acts as a amp for you speakers giving you better sound which is a plus. Screen clarity is great and ease of use is a plus as well. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants to add to their car's audio overall.

Yamaha YHT-790BL Home Theater in a Box (Black) Review

Yamaha YHT-790BL Home Theater in a Box (Black)

If you want HD audio and own a blu-ray player that decodes the HD audio codec's (ps3 does) this is the best home theater in a box system you can get. The speakers are a beautiful gloss black that really impressed me with the quality and connectors. This system comes with the Yamaha 6140 receiver that does accept PCM (HD audio) via HDMI. This is not a pass through system it accepts audio via HDMI unlike most home theater in a box systems. The only thing that could have made this a perfect set up would have been if it came with a larger sub but for the size of this one it does sound good but if your going for huge rumble you may want to upgrade the sub but other than that is a very nice set up. Btw you can usually find this for $650(shipped) or under if you look around.

Yamaha YAS-71BL Front Surround System (Black) Review

Yamaha YAS-71BL Front Surround System (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been searching for a simple budget out of the box home audio solution that had great sound, ease of use and set up, all the connections I needed and lastly esthetically pleasing and not an eyesore. I looked at all the recommended budget 5.1 and 7.1 system (Onkyo is the best deal for full 5.1 systems) and was frustrated by the price and the over engineered complexity of them all. Real surround sound would be cool but ultimately I just wanted a simple solution with strong, rich sound and any simulated surround would be nice too. I have a Samsung 630 and love the TV but the sound sucks. This YAS-71 sound bar and sub-woofer really have enhanced my home theater experience tremendously. I want to watch all the movies I've already seen in HD again now just to hear them in fuller sound. My wife even likes it, I don't think she's nearly as intimidated by it as much as 5.1 component systems would.
This unit has 4 audio inputs plus a connector for an ipod dock; 3 of the inputs are digital audio inputs (2 optical, 1 coaxial). 1 RCA audio input. I highly recommend using the digital audio inputs to get the best and clearest simulated surround sound. I have a PS3 (my Blu-Ray player), a Toshiba DVD player and my DVR hooked up to the digital inputs and the Yamaha ipod dock hooked up. The ipod dock works well and you can control the ipod to some extent with the remote, though the screen on the front of the bar gives you very minimal information and control for your ipod. There are times I'd rather just select my ipod manually on the ipod itself. My 3G iphone worked with it as well as a 30 gig ipod. They all sounded great.
I have a very boxy, enclosed small to medium sized living room (12' x 18') in an older home and it's perfect for that environment. At volume level 50 (halfway) it really fills the room up with rich sound, at the higher levels it gets surprisingly loud without distortion and blowout. Though If you have a very open or large contemporary living room I wouldn't recommend this system; I'd go with more powerful true surround system where you could space the speakers out to fit the room. This YAS-71 really works best in a room with defined walls to work off of. I wouldn't expect any true surround sound from the YAS-71 but there are times while watching 5.1 DVDs and Blu-rays I notice that some sounds really feel immersive and you can feel the simulated surround effect. Prices have dropped on these recently, they used to retail for $500-$600 and for around $300 this is an exceptional deal.
Positives:
* Easy to set up, there aren't a bunch of wires to run around your room.
* User friendly. Wife friendly.
* 4 audio inputs (3 digital) plus yamaha ipod connector
* Clear, surprisingly powerful, robust simulated 5.1 sound for such a contained unit.
* Great value for the money if you can find it at or under $300
* Looks nice in front of most HDTVs. It virtually matched my piano finished black Samsung.
* Great for enclosed rooms.Negatives:
* No onscreen information and controls on your TV screen, info is only on the soundbar screen. This does not have any video passthrough. (this hasn't been a problem for me though).
* It might not have have all the audio connections you need. Check your setup.
* All the inputs are on the sub woofer, so keep that in mind, you might need longer cables.
* Remote controlling ipod is very minimal.
* ipod dock sold separately ($50-100)
* Not so good for open areas.
Conclusion:
Powerful, clear sound and a good number of inputs for most needs. A simple solution for better home audio. I couldn't be happier with it.

If you're looking for a great home theater system at an affordable price this is it. I have had no problems passing through all of my 3D content to my TV from this home theater system. There is a ton of control for the audio and even offers automatic and manual lip syncing. If you're an audio/video nut and you notice lips being off from audio by only the slightest bit then this is the home theater system for you. The active subwoofer is outstanding for its size. JBL WEM-1 50-Watt Wireless Amplifier and Expansion Module (Black) Review

JBL WEM-1 50-Watt Wireless Amplifier and Expansion Module (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this once it first came out and I've been pleased. It works effectively to expand your listening area wirelessly between zones or even between 5.1 and 7.1 setups.
I use this across my house - a house that is also set up with a wireless network for my computers as well as both cordless and cellular phones. The interference from these units is minimal, if present at all. Surprisingly, I find the most interference from either myself or others walking past it. Wierd. Though, there are 4 channels available to sync the transmitter and receiver seamlessly (or close to it).
The sound is great. It has a built in 50W amplifier and provides crisp sounds. The subwoofer output allows you to make this mini system a sharp 2.1 surround sound system. Note - use a non LFE sub (or just bypass the LFE option on your sub) since the receiver has its own volume input.
Obviously, the best results are for when you connect an outside music source to the receiver via the mini-jack input. If this is your sole reason to use this product, you don't even need to hook up the transmitter at all. Though, to fully enjoy this product, you should.
I have it hooked up to a 7.1 receiver with 2 zone capability. It works fine and I'm very happy with it. The built in amp definitely helps the performance.

LG LSB316 Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer Review

LG LSB316 Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We just purchased a new 55" LED TV for our great room and needed a sound system (as is well known, the flat panel tv speakers are horrible). We did research for several days and had finally settled on either the Sony CT150 or the Boston Acoustics TVEEM20. Both had recieved great reviews. The problem with Sony is that the subwoofer is wired and contains all the inputs as well as the sensor for the remote. Thus, the subwoofer must be near the TV and easily visible (given the wall mounted location in our room, its a pain to run 10 foot cables through the wall). The problem with the BA is that it only has the circa 1980 RCA input (which few modern TVs seem to have as an output option). After much research we decided we had to settle for one or the other and went to Best Buy to test them. Once there, we stumbled upon the LG which hadn't even been stocked yet (just saw the box in the corner). After checking out the specs, we were delighted to see that LG had settled the problems! Wireless subwoofer can sit out of sight yet provides great effect. The sound bar has two optical inputs, plus a USB port and is Bluetooth enabled. All ports are on the bar, so you only need a short single optical cable from the TV to the bar.
Set up took about 2 minutes; plug in the bar, the subwoofer and plug in the optical cable. That's it. Be sure to turn off your TV's speakers to avoid any issues with sound bleeding.
Sound is great, assuming you have realistic expectations. This is not a $2000 home theater system so don't expect that. However, for a $300-$350 range soundbar, the sound is outstanding! Other than a tiny bit of static when set on a couple of the pre-installed sound effects (which goes away when we tried a different setting), its great. Plenty of power for our great room which is open on two sides and has 20 foot ceilings open to a loft (basically the worst acoustical set up you can imagine). Yet the LG puts out plenty of power; haven't even turned it up more than half way as even that was blasting. Great range of sound as far as we can tell; seems to hand music, movies, games, etc very well (again, use the different sound settings to get the best effects depending on source and type of content).
The Bluetooth sync is extremely easy. My wife had the Ipod running through the system by the time I was done putting away the box. The LG has a specific sound setting for MP3 files that upscales the frequencies, etc. The sound is really amazing.
If we had to come up with any negatives, we only have 2 very minor ones. My wife doesn't like the look as much as the Sony (the LG speakers are exposed, so it looks a bit more industrial); but even this is relative and very minor. We both agree its stylish and low profile. The only other negative is that it won't sync with our DVR universal remote, so we have to use the sound bar remote for volume control, and the other for everything else. Not really a big deal.
In sum, we stumbled upon this by accident (didn't even know LG made a soundbar, which is ironic given that we had bought a new LG LED tv just a few days earlier) and couldn't be more pleased. If you're looking for a good, low profile sound system for your tv but don't want to go to a full theater system, this is a good option. If you're an audio snob, you probably won't like it, but then again you probably sholdn't be looking at soundbars anyway.

Dont buy this Zii T6 item.It disappoints me totally. (Inspire s2 wireless bluetooth is 100 times better in sound quality.)
Especially sub woofer quality is too bad. No deep tight bass. No "Kick" in bass. (Prototype S2 bluetooth wireless delivers excellent woofer quality. You can dance when you play Josh music. Award winning product. Much Cheaper than Zii T6.)
I returned the product 3rd day.
Strong recommendation: dont waste 400$ on Zii T6 and dont disappoint. If you want to enjoy wireless music Just stick on to S2 bluetooth wireless speakers. It gives "Maza" in Music.
