Plantronics CS70 Wireless Headset Review

Plantronics CS70 Wireless Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After many disappointments with corded and wireless headsets and the unavailability of a Bluetooth(tm) option for our phone system, I purchased the CS70 because of its use of the 6.0 DECT (1.9 GHz) band, digitally-encrypted audio (Essential for our health care office, after having a local scanner hobbyist e-mail us some of our conversations from 5.8 GHz "analog" cordless telephones.), the reported 300 foot range, less chance of interference with 2.4 GHz WiFi networks (and the other myriad of gadgets in that crowded frequency band) and recommendations that the audio was "second to none."
Other cordless headsets that we had purchased in the past were useless when trying to communicate with some of our elderly, hard-of-hearing clients. The CS70 allows adjustments of both incoming and outgoing audio from moderate levels to almost painfully loud. At the highest volume settings it could almost qualify as a speaker phone in a quiet room! We have received many unsolicited compliments about our telephone call sound quality from the hard of hearing. Comments such as: "What telephone are you using? I can't understand anybody else on the telephone except when your office calls." Our clients who have difficulty hearing are much more likely to answer our calls when they see our number in the caller ID because of this. Apparently the Plantronics noise-cancelling and digital audio processing increases the intelligibility. The 64-bit audio encryption, sufficient for all but the most demanding security environments, does not degrade the audio quality - something that we noted with cordless telephones we've had in the past from Panasonic and Uniden that use FHSS or DSS ("frequency hopping spread spectrum" or "digital spread spectrum") although, as far as we know they are quite secure and our calls were never monitored successfully.
The optional Handset Lifter HL-10 is anything but "optional." It is a "must have" with this device. The whole point of having a cordless headset is not having to return to the base unit for every function - especially to pick up and hang up the phone! For the price Plantronics is charging, the HL-10 should be included. Furthermore, the HL-10's compatibility, even with models that are so listed on the Plantronics website, is a relative term that will require some ingenuity to insure reliability. In our experience, a small piece of Velcro(tm) to attach the handset to the lifter works wonders, but it took several hours of "trial and error" to figure this out. Use enough Velcro(tm) to secure the handset when moved by the lifter, but not so much that the handset cannot be easily removed without yanking the lifter out of position.
The biggest disappointment with the CS70 is the range. The listed "up to 300 feet" is a joke. Even in completely open terrain with no intervening walls in a flat rural area of Florida with no known powerful electromagnetic radiation sources. The best distance we could achieve was 60-75 feet and still have reliable, noise-free communications even with optimal base unit positioning in an elevated location away from all metal and other electronic devices. The range indoors, in an office environment, with sheetrock, non-metallic walls and the usual collection of office equipment and furniture drops to 50 feet AT BEST. With the metallic studs that are used as wall supports in many commercial building, the CS70 basically becomes a "line of sight" device over 25-30 feet. In one of our clinics, the range was so short that we thought that we had a defective unit. However, after exchanging it for another CS70, we got the same results. Of course, very few of us need a range of 300 feet, but it is very annoying to drop a call while making a short trip down the hall for a file. The short range reduces the CS70's usefulness as an aid to "multitasking." Could it be that the lack of an external antenna is responsible for this? Somebody needs to call Plantronics "on the carpet" for their bogus range claims.
The headset, although it appears bulky, is surprisingly comfortable. Battery life is outstanding. And the headset recharges rapidly, making it easy to use the CS70 all day. If you're a big talker, you might have to leave headset in the charger during lunch. We can't comment on battery longevity since we've only had the CS70's for a couple of months.
Although the CS70 touts its interference resistance, we've had trouble with the CS70 in our office near the airport. These problems did not affect the "frequency hopping" cordless phones in either the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz bands that we've had in the past. Also, some PDA telephones, like the Cingular 8125 and others, intermittently interfere with the CS70. Every few minutes there will be several seconds of static and the outgoing audio is dropped. What the source of this interference is, we still haven't determined. But it seems that it would have to either be the Bluetooth or WiFi transmitters.

Avaya AWH-75N Executive Style Wireless Headset - Headset ( over-the-ear ) - wireless - radio Review

Avaya AWH-75N Executive Style Wireless Headset - Headset ( over-the-ear ) - wireless - radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My company uses the cheap Plantronics wire headset with the latest Avaya phone system. The Plantronics wire headset is terrible. There is always static & customers complain they can't hear me & the headset leaves an indention in your hair. We are constantly changing the cords or the headset & I got fed up & bought the wireless. I can hear so clearly that I have to set the earpiece at the lowest sound setting & it is comfortable all day. With my Microsoft wireless mouse I am completely wire free. This pays for itself after a year. I figure I'm on the phone 8 hours a day so the $250.00 price is worth it. I don't need the phone lifter because the Avaya phone we use works directly. Call comes in & my earpiece beeps & I press the button on the earpiece & start talking. The only quibble is that with the foam earpiece I hear the conversation echo. With the soft plastic earpiece I hear a slight echo if I am talking to a co- worker with the mouthpiece down. If I put the mouthpiece up I do not hear the echo but I always forget to put the mouthpiece down again when a call comes in. Other than that this thing is Money. BeachAudio delivered in 3 days, brand new, not refurbished.

Jabra Go 6430 Bt Dual Link Headset Incl Bt USB Dongle Review

Jabra Go 6430 Bt Dual Link Headset Incl Bt USB Dongle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I read the other reviews prior to purchasing, and I was mainly looking for comfort and quality. There were many comments regarding the large size of this headset, and it is big among others, but that didn't sway me. It is still very lightweight, comfortable, and the sound quality is unmatched. When asked if I sound like I'm talking from a cell phone, the answer is always "No, didn't realize you were on one." What I really purchased this for was being able to roam around my home while on business calls, however, and I use Skype to make those calls. Now I can walk out to my mailbox at the end of a very long driveway without losing the connection. In regard to Skype, the softphone integration works very well. I can answer, end, and mute calls with ease, and the software handles it swiftly. Overall I am very satisfied with the Jabra Go 6430 and didn't give it a full five stars only because of its size.

Jabra GN9350 DECT 6.0 Wireless Dual-Functional Office/VoIP Headset System with DSP Technology (9326-607-405) Review

Jabra GN9350 DECT 6.0 Wireless Dual-Functional Office/VoIP Headset System with DSP Technology (9326-607-405)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is probably the best wireless headset available now. Excellent sound quality, great range, many controls over audio tone and loudness in the earpiece. There are only two minor problems with this headset: It's a little finicky to put back in the cradle, and you get just the slightest echo of your own voice in the earpiece. (Very slight, and can be ignored easily, but the Plantronics does not have these problems.)
The unit has excellent range, and I suffered no loss of audio quality at all when moving anywhere in my house, even with a WiFi network active.
Compared to the Plantronics CS50/CS55, the Jabra GN9350e comes out on top, for the following reasons:
-Jabra has better more natural sounding audio quality when you speak, with better frequency response. Plantronics headsets make your voice sound somewhat tinny and muffled by comparison.
-Jabra has a MUCH better speaker in the earpiece than Plantronics. The Jabra earpiece has pretty good audio quality; not as good as a wired headset, but pretty good. The sound quality you hear in the Plantronics headset is just bad.
-This unit will work with both a PC and a DECT cordless phone. The Plantronics CS50 is PC only, but the CS55 can do DECT.
-If you don't have a DECT phone, this unit can also hook into any standard phone that has a corded handset. Plantronics can't do that.
Audio quality when using it with a normal phone is basically perfect.
Some nitpicks: I didn't find the leatherette ear cushion comfortable. You'll want to swap it out for a foam one. Also the included cord for hooking it to your phone necessitates it being right next to the phone. Also, the USB cable is short and mini-USB on the base-unit end, so if you need a longer cable you'll need to find one elsewhere. It would be nice if they included more "over-the-ear" earpieces like Plantronics does, but I find them uncomfortable and use the over-the-head ban anyway.
One last thing: Although this unit works great with normal phone and Skype, both this unit and the Plantronics have degraded audio quality when using Teamspeak. After extensive testing, I can definitely tell you it's a Teamspeak specific issue; a wired headset will give you much better speaking-audio quality with TS (But with Skype/Googletalk/Phone these units are great). The Jabra is usable with TS, but your friends will prefer you use the wired headset. The Plantronics is basically unusable with Teamspeak because the bad quality of the Plantronics speaker, coupled with the lackluster audio reproduction of TS, makes it difficult to understand your friends when using TS with the Plantronics. With the Jabra you can still hear clearly on TS, even if your own voice is somewhat degraded.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with this headset. The Plantronics FEELS like a sturdier, better made unit, and is more ergonomic, but ultimately the audio quality differences overcome that and put the Jabra on top.

Jabra GN9330e Wireless Headset Review

Jabra GN9330e Wireless Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using the GN9330 for a month or so now, and the headset is pretty nice in terms of versatility.
The Good:
-The range from the cradle/phone to a lost signal is at least 325 feet, and I've even managed to go a bit further int eh building I work in (it's functional for at about 2 floors away from the cradle.)
-I also really like the modular ability to switch between a standard over the head wire holder for the unit, or the much smaller over the ear clip on.
-The charge on the unit lasts for a number of days before it needs to be recharged.
-The incoming sound is excellent, though the initial out of the box setting is very low.
-The pick-up/hang-up button is fairly responsive with a light touch.
The Bad:
-The out-going sound quality seems to be relatively low, even for calls withing the same building.
-The over the ear clip tends to make the unit hug very close to the face which can cause the microphone to pick-up garbled, muffled sound.
The unit works very well with the GN1000 receiver lifter unit.

Plantronics CS55H Wireless Headset W Adapter for Cordless Telephones Review

Average Reviews:

If Call Waiting matters to you...
I bought this and used it for a couple of hours before realizing that it did not support Call Waiting AT ALL (unless you consider hanging up on your current call acceptable). The omission of such a commonplace phone system feature should have been stated up front - it was not. The "workaround" suggested by the Plantronics support staff is simply absurd and involves a five step process to "flash" over to the incoming call. As conveyed by the Plantronics support personnel:
1. Pick up your phone / press Talk on your phone
Note: The step above may require a short sprint if you don't carry your phone around with you.
2. Hang up the headset (this is NOT OPTIONAL, see below)
3. Flash over to the incoming call using your phone's Flash/Talk button
You are now talking to your new party on your PHONE
4. Click the headset button to turn the headset back on
5. Hang up your phone.
You must repeat steps 1 - 5 to return to your original call. The Plantronics web site FAQ states the following:
=========================================
Can I switch between calls ("Flash" feature) using the headset?
If the user is on a call using the headset and receives another incoming all, pressing the headset button will simply hang up the current call but will not transfer to the new incoming call.
*Important note: The "Flash" feature is deactivated when the CS55H headset is turned on. In other words, if the user turns the phone back on during an incoming call in order to view incoming Caller ID, pressing the "Flash" button on the handset will not switch to the other call.
=========================================
That said, the call quality and range of the headset was excellent and if call waiting/switching between calls is not important to you then you'll probably be very happy with it.

AT&T TL7610 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Headset (Silver/Black) Review

ATandT TL7610 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Headset (Silver/Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this headset to replace a corded one that plugged into my cordless phone. I kept having to replace the corded one because the cord would snag on things when I moved around, and the cord would eventually die. The corded ones were costing me about $25 each. This headset was a lot more expensive, but it is so much better in every way. All of the corded headsets I used had volume problems- 2 just weren't loud enough, and the one that was was just barely so. This headset has a volume control on it, and it is loud enough for me when set about medium. The headset is not cumbersome- no cord to catch on things or come unplugged. I use the headband style attachment, and find it very comfortable. There are several earpieces included and I think that most people would find an option to suit them. I have an older house which is quite solidly constructed. It's hard to hear someone calling out from the other end of the house, even though it's just a 1400 sq ft ranch house. I wondered if reception would be a problem if I got too far from the base, but I have had no problems with that, inside or outside the house. No interference when passing by computers, our Tivo, or the microwave, either. I think this headset will last a long time, and for me it was well worth the higher price. I wondered if I was going to want the lifter or keypad accessories, but have found the headset works fine as is. I wouldn't buy it as a replacement for a second phone, though, as it obviously lacks any way to check caller ID or dial out. I dial on a cordless handset,then put on the headset and turn it on. You can actually turn the handset off, then, I think, but then you won't have caller ID or any way to "flash" to a 2nd call if one comes in, so I leave the handset on. I do have to be careful to remember to turn the handset off when I hang up. I wondered if I had to have AT&T phones to use this headset, but this headset works fine with my Panasonic phones.

Plantronics CS70/HL10 DECT 6.0 Bundle Wireless Headset System with Lifter Review

Plantronics CS70/HL10 DECT 6.0 Bundle Wireless Headset System with Lifter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using a GN Netcom 2.4GHz 9120-FLEX Wireless Headset with Noise-Canceling Flex Boom for the past couple of years and have been extremely impressed with the distance that I can travel from the base unit. I work in a large office building and the 9120 headset gets good reception from nearly one end of the building to the other. My biggest complaint with the 9120 is its size and weight. Wearing this large headset requires an over-the-head design, and the earpiece makes my ear rather hot because it covers the entire outside of the ear. The sound also produces a fair amount of echo, and callers have complained that my voice sounded somewhat quiet and thin. I was very excited to read positive reviews about the new Plantronics CS70. The newer DECT 6.0 technology has had my curiosity peaked for quite some time now and I decided that it was time for me to give this new technology a try with the Plantronics CS70/HL10 Wireless Headset and Lifter bundle.
I have been using this new Plantronics headset now for about 6 weeks. Setup was a real breeze. Plantronics has really gone out of their way to provide easy to follow instructions and an automated dial-in support line that helps you to set your input and output settings for this headset. The headset is fairly light and comfortable, which allows me to wear it constantly for several hours without any discomfort. The incoming sound quality is simply outstanding, and callers have told me that my voice sounds very good. The answer/end call button is large and easy to operate, but the volume up and down buttons on the headset are a bit small and stiff to operate. This headset also comes with several earpieces; some of which are foam covered tips and others are a gel type. The headset charges quickly and provides several hours of talk-time. The lifter kit was easy to install and works flawlessly. I just wish that there was a mute function for the ringer pickup microphone on the lifter, as loud noises in my office tend to set off the ringer in my headset. The GN Netcom 9120 had this mute function, which really came in handy. The boom microphone on the headset has some adjustment but is not flexible, so it tends to sit far away from your mouth. I find that this allows a slight wind noise when I am walking while talking. Overall I would give this headset 4 stars, based on sound quality and design alone.
Now, for the real reason behind my low overall score for this headset. Simply put, the range of this headset is extremely poor. While the 2.4GHz GN Netcom headset allowed me to walk from one end of the office building to the other, this Plantronics DECT 6.0 system barely lets me walk 50 feet from my office. If I am on the phone and want to walk to the closest kitchenette (roughly 45 feet from the base unit in my office), to fill my coffee pot with water, the call begins breaking up and the CS70 begins producing an "out of range" beeping sound in my ear. Seriously, I start losing my call when less than 50 feet from my desk! OK, I will admit that my office walls are constructed of cement blocks, which I'm sure is one reason for the poor signal quality, but come on, the 2.4GHz GN Netcom 9120 headset worked flawlessly in the same environment. Two weeks ago I ordered another one of these CS70/HL10 headset kits, just in case mine was defective. The results are pretty much identical, barely letting me walk out the door of my office before showing signs of signal disruption.
I really, REALLY wanted this headset to work well. It is very comfortable to wear, has great sound quality, and has a rather high-tech look about it. However, the ridiculously poor signal quality makes this new Plantronics CS70 headset a real dissapointment. I have long been a loyal fan of their products, but unfortunately this DECT 6.0 headset does not meet the normal quality standards that the Plantronics name has been known for. It is with great distress that I have to give this product 2 stars, and I honestly cannot recommend it to anyone unless they plan to remain very close to the base unit. =o(

Plantronics Voyager 510SLPLUS Headset Review

Plantronics Voyager 510SLPLUS Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this for both a cell phone headset and desk headset. I'm on the phone typically anywhere from 4-6 hours per day and regularly switch back and forth between cell phone and deskphone. This thing works just great. I have not yet run out the battery on this headset.
My prior headset was a Sony Ericsson HBH662, which was a much more attractive (smaller, less conspicuous) headset , but the HB662 battery was only good for an hour or two at most.
The only reason I hold back a star is because the unit lacks noise cancellation and so tends to pick up wind and road noise. Still, the battery life - and the packaging of this combo with the desk phone lifter/switch - makes thing just great!

GN Netcom GN 9350 - Headset ( convertible ) - wireless - DECT Review

GN Netcom GN 9350 - Headset ( convertible ) - wireless - DECT
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great headset for the following reasons:
>Very reliable. Not one repair issue in nearly 4 years of constant use.
>Very easy set up. Although I could not get the computer to dial.
>No interference from other wireless devices.
>Fairly long battery life. Maybe 3 to 5 days with lots of use. I have had this unit for 3 years and I might need a new battery.
>Neat battery life indicator
>I use the over the head holder which is very comfortable
>I use the GN1000 handset lifter which is a little touchy. You have to get the right phone.
>Range is good, probably 75 to 100 feet.
>Has not failed as yet.
>Very good sound quality according to my customers.
>You can adjust volume up or down right on the earpiece
>Fairly long life after low battery indicator starts beeping in your ear (the other party cannot hear that)
Some peeves:
>No locator ringing. If you set this down, you can't push a button and have this thing buzz or ring so you can find it.
>A little bit sensitive to wind noise, if I walk into backyard or to the mailbox.
>Of course you can't dial from the unit.
>Also, there is no hold or mute button on the unit. You have to use your phone.
>A fairly large footprint 5 inches in diameter, plus quite a few wires in and out.
>A bit difficult to insure the unit is plugged in and charging when in its cradle.
Overal an outstanding wireless headset.

Sony Wireless Bluetooth Transmitter and Headphones for Ipod Review

Sony Wireless Bluetooth Transmitter and Headphones for Ipod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've tried countless stereo (A2DP profile) Bluetooth headsets and this one stands out from all the others for several reasons. Other than being a tiny bit flimsy feeling, this headset takes the prize for just working, virtually all of the time, for the common use cases for a wireless headset: 1) Listening to music/podcasts throughout the house/office 2) taking and making calls seamlessly and untethered, and 3) as a PC/Mac headset and headphone (and yes, it works great with Skype).
Here's how the DR-BT22IK/B breaks down:
PROS:
- The included iPod/iPhone dongle to add A2DP (stereo Bluetooth profile) to the Apple device requires no battery or charging, it actually draws enough power from the device itself through the dock connection. And it does NOT increase the rate of power drain noticeably. Just one less device to charge, an incredible feature by itself. And it's tiny, the smallest A2DP transmitter I've seen.
- Works just fine with the iPhone 3G, though you'll get a message that it wasn't designed to work with it. But it does with no problems.
- Sound quality and loudness is excellent for a wireless headset. Surprisingly, the bass sounds the best I've heard on a Bluetooth headset. Trebles have the typical limitation of these headsets and sounds slightly muddy, as it does on all the others. Lesson: The tremendous potential convenience of Bluetooth is still a trade-off on sound quality.
- Can pair with up to 8 devices at a time and comes pre-paired with the A2DP dongle. Had no trouble with pairing with my iPhone as a headset (not a headphone, which requires the dongle) or my Mac.
- The working distance between the headset and device is about the best I've seen. I can put 3 walls in between myself and the iPhone and music streams fine as long as I stay within the recommended 30 feet.
- Best feature: When a call comes in on the iPhone, the music fades out automatically and a quick tap of the multi-function button on the headset switches to the Bluetooth transmitter in the phone. The call can then be conducted seamlessly through the headset. Music starts right back up on the dongle as soon as the call is over. This is priceless in terms of ease of use and convenience and shows the real promise of Bluetooth technology; you can just jump in and out of calls all day while listening to an iPod or Pandora on the iPhone with total ease.
- Controls are easy to access and are laid out nicely. They all have a nice, solid tactile feedback.
- The comfort is extremely good, can be worn for long periods of time without issue.
- Listening/talk time is very good at 11 hours, which is longer than an entire work day. I've not run out of power yet when I needed it.
CONS:
- The headset feels flimsy because of its fold-up design. However, the looseness of the hinges actually means its very comfortable and malleable on the head.
- Really needs a hard-case to protect it. Putting this in your pocket risks breaking the hinges.
- Switching to PC mode makes it hard to back to iPhone mode without repairing (which is a 5 second process).
Note: This bundle is different than the regular DR-BT22 product. Make sure you buy the DR-BT22IK/B to get the matching iPod/iPhone dongle, the pairing is what really makes the headphone shine.

Quick Review:
Amazing sound quality (both sending and receiving) and amazing range but best used while sitting at the computer and near your regular phone. On the down-side, the headset sound and microphone input doesn't switch automatically between the headset and my computer. This has to be done manually with much clicking of the mouse. Also, forget about trying to pair the headset with another DECT 6.0 /GAP standard cordless phone. This feature doesn't work.

Background:
I have an office in a major downtown metropolitan area, but usually work from my home office.
I use an iPhone and I have three VOIP phone lines (business, home & fax). I've used a Uniden 2 line 5.8 Ghz cordless phone for the last five years. The 5.8 Ghz. Uniden is good phone; however it lacks enough range to allow use beyond my immediate office area in my home.
I wanted a headset with exceptional sound quality and longer range that would also act as a computer headset. Several years ago, I tried both Jabra and Plantronics corded headsets, but returned them because several callers complained about poor sound quality. I have tried Bluetooth headsets with my cell phone before, but stopped using them because none of them worked very well. I avoid anything with blue tooth involved. I wanted a wireless headset because I already have enough cords decorating my desktop & I have trouble with corded headsets catching on everything as I move around my office.
I've used the Jabra wireless headset for about a week now. The DECT 6.0 technology in the headset worked so well, I decided to upgrade my existing 5.8 Ghz. cordless phone system to a new Siemens Gigaset DECT 6.0 cordless phone (Model A580 IP). Because I use it for business, the increased clarity and range was worth the cost.
Review:
It took a few hours to hook up the Jabra headset & read the instructions. It was about as difficult as setting up a new VCR.I initially tried to do without the "analog phone lifter," but decided to order the accessory because it seemed to be fairly integral to the system Jabra uses. It also adds slightly to the functionality by allowing you to answer and hang-up the line with the headset only when your away from the computer, base station or your phone handset.
Pro's: In order of importance
1.Amazing sound quality (callers absolutely cannot tell I'm using a headset. No static, no clicking, no muffled voice, no wind tunnel effect, no echo, no puffs of my breath over the microphone that are audible on the other end, etc);
2.Amazing range (works through multiple wood & sheetrock interior walls, a thick wooden exterior wall of a house and down the street about 100');
3.Lightweight & OK to wear for hours at a time;
4.No interference with my iPhone or other electronics was noted;
5.About as difficult to set up as a VCR.Con's:In order of importance
1.No automatic switching of the sound output from the headset earpiece to the computer speakers (i.e. even though the headset is in the cradle, your computer speaker's won't work. One has to enter the computer control panel then the hardware settings then the audio setting and manually choose which device (either the "computer speakers" or the "headset.") to use. Put another way, I can't listen to music on my computer speakers while the headset is available for use & vice versa without doing a bunch of mouse clicks. As much as the headset costs, it ought to be smart enough to know when to switch (and wash the car & do the dishes);
2.Expensive price (around $280 as of the date of this review;
3.In spite of what the Jabra website and their literature & instructions say, I was unable to "pair" the headset with any another DECT / GAP compatible cordless phones. (I tried new Motorola, Panasonic, Uniden and Seimens DECT 6.0 / GAP cordless phones, without luck.) Jabra tech support had no information on cordless phones that were known to either work or not work with the Jabra headset and had no idea how to trouble-shoot the DECT 6.0 / GAP connection problems I had.
4.Can't dial out from the headset. Have to be in front of the computer or have a handset with a touchpad with me to call out.
5.No caller I.D on the headset (Many much cheaper Bluetooth headsets have this feature);
6.About as difficult to set up as a VCR.
Jabra got it about 85% right with their headset. The perfect sound quality and lack of a cord make up for other shortcomings.
