Pioneer DEH-P5000UB In-Dash CD/MP3/WMA/iTunes AAC/WAV Receiver Review

I purchased this to replace the stock radio in my 2006 F150 4x4. I read the reviews here and elsewhere and was a little bit concerned about the interface in regards to it being non-intuitive and the knob flimsy. I disagree on both counts. The interface is very intuitive once you learn it, and the knob is by no means flimsy. Also, there were comments regarding the lack of presets - this is not a problem at all - when the radio is in tuner mode one only needs to push up or down on the knob to advance to the next preset. There was another complaint regarding the clock - all I can say to that is, read the manual!
My stock radio had very good AM reception but poor FM reception. I was afraid I would lose good AM reception with the new radio, but the AM reception is just as good if not better.
I use this radio with my iPod Touch 2nd generation and again, no complaints. I am a mild audiophile and the output sounds very clean to me in all modes.
I do agree that there should be a mute or pause button on the radio itself in case the remote is not handy. Other than that, this is a great product for the price.

Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity--the way the artist intended it--from all of your highly compressed MP3, WMA, and AAC files stored on USB memory device, iPod, and portable digital players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tend to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies. When Advanced Sound Retriever is "ON," the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve of the original sound.

USB Direct Control for iPod and MorePioneer's DEH-P5000UB is ready to roll with capability for direct connection to your iPod. USB 2.0's speed and capability allow an elevated iPod experience in the car, and nearly limitless expandability for portable media players and USB memory devices.

File search and access are extra quick. The head unit keeps song, artist, time, and album information displays very clear and user-friendly, and control is intuitive through the 7-way Rotary Commander. The system's wired USB connection provides direct digital signal transfer from the iPod for clean, clear sound. In addition, Pioneer has developed the following new features to make using your iPod in the car extremely easy and convenient:
• Link Search-- While listening to a specific artist, hold "List" button to pop up folders containing that specific artist.
• Passenger Control Mode--Allows passenger to use the iPod directly to browse and select music, while connected to the head unit for playback.
• Random (Shuffle) Key--Physical Random Button on faceplate (Shuffle) makes it easy to hear something fresh.
Available Bluetooth Wireless Technology*Use the available CD-BTB200 Bluetooth adapter and Bluetooth-enabled cellular phones for easy, safe, and hands-free operation, including talking via the head unit's microphone and your vehicle's speaker system. The system automatically mutes any other audio during incoming or outgoing calls.
*Optional CD-BTB200 adapter required

Pioneer DEH-P7000BT In-Dash CD/Mp3/Wma/iTunes AAC/Wav Receiver Review

Pioneer DEH-P7000BT In-Dash CD/Mp3/Wma/iTunes AAC/Wav Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the third in-dash receiver I've installed in my car in the past 2 years, and I have to say, this is by far the best head unit yet. I didn't install an amp and I'm using the stock speakers, so I can't comment much on audio quality. It's as good as can be expected from the marginal factory speakers. Instead, this review will focus on features.
The P7000BT has a very nice, clean design. Some car receivers are just overloaded with dozens of tiny buttons and goofy graphics. Not so with this unit: it is clean and neat, but not too spartan. The cool blue and white faceplace looks modern, and is bright and easy to read in both sunlight and at night.
The large rotary knob on the left side controls volume, station selection and tons of other functions. Its not as elegant as the click wheel on an iPod, but lets face it, no other company can come close to the ease of use of an Apple product. It will take a little getting used to, but after using this Pioneer receiver for a few days, I got the hang of the interface, and I like it. Note that there are no station preset numbers on the faceplate itself; instead, you use the rotary knob to select from one of 6 favorite stations, or you can use the included remote to directly select a preset. At first, I thought this was kind of lame, but after using it for a while, I don't mind it at all.
The built-in Bluetooth is a godsend. Within minutes of first installing the P7000BT, I was able to pair it with my iPhone. It just works. Not much else to say about this.
I also installed a USB to Dock cable, allowing an iPod or iPhone to connect directly to the head unit via USB. Nothing special is required: a standard dock cable is all you need (Apple brand or third party, doesn't matter). Not only does the receiver play the iPod's audio through the car speakers, but it also charges the iPod without the use of an extra clunky cigarette lighter charger. You can even choose to have the head unit control the iPod, in which song titles, artist info, track number and duration show up on the head unit. Or, if you prefer, you can choose to do all your searching on the iPod or iPhone itself. I like how the receiver gives you both options. I prefer to control all my music on the iPod or iPhone, because Apple's interface for browsing music is simply unmatched.
In this review you've seen me mention the iPhone several times. Just to confirm, yes, the P7000BT does work flawlessly with the iPhone, despite the fact that Pioneer never lists it as officially supported. No complaints here. It just works.
Overall, a very nice receiver. Highly recommended!

Pioneer Premier DEH-P510UB iPod AM/FM/MP3/WMA/AAC Receiver Review

Pioneer Premier DEH-P510UB iPod AM/FM/MP3/WMA/AAC Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought a Pioneer DEH-P510UB along with the Pioneer HD tuner in early 2009 when they came out. I was eagerly awaiting a quality deck with good radio and also AUX-IN and USB right on the faceplate of the deck. The unit sounds fabulous, even through my car's original (premium, 7 speaker) sound system with no additional amp. The radio works wonderfully, gets stations that our home tuners don't, and you can store HD subchannels as presets. I put a whole bunch of MP3-encoded songs on a 16 GB USB thumb drive and this is my primary mode of use. It's very easy, plug in the thumb drive and within seconds it's playing your music. The key to playing 1000 songs on one digital medium like a USB drive is the user interface, of course. Sadly, this is where Pioneer cut corners. There's no way to skip ahead say 50 or 100 songs, and if you want to go back to the song that played before the current one it's incredibly bad, barely works. You can put the unit into random mode, which will skip around through your music. Unlike many consumer audio players, the random algorithm seems to work well. However, this is the very worst part. If I'm in random mode and I push the button to skip to the next song, it should go to the next song randomly, NOT the next song in alphabetical order. This is a very basic and stupid mistake in the UI design and it is excruciating for the user. Stuck in the middle of one of your daughter's Spice Girls songs and don't want to listen to it? You'd think you could push "next song" and it would jump to the next song in random order. Does it? No. It goes to the next Spice Girls song, then the next .. yow.
It's a good thing the remote works as well as it does, because that one-button-does-all thing doesn't work very precisely if you're driving. To make a radio station a preset, for example, requires that you hold that button exactly in its center for several seconds until the deck realizes what you're trying to do. I have yet to accomplish this while I'm driving - some tiny swerve will make my fingertip move just barely but enough to make the thing skip to the next radio station instead of adding the current one as a preset. Sigh. The remote works much better.
It's a shame, really. This could be a really killer product and it wouldn't have cost Pioneer any money in hardware, just needed to put someone on the UI design who knows something. The manual seems large at first glance until you realize it's one of those awful written-in-every-language manuals. The English section is skimpy, the index is uselessly terse, and whatever you're looking up is certain to refer to another section which itself may refer to another section .. just plain lazy tech writing. And the font is way way tiny. I have to take off my driving glasses and put on reading glasses to read it. Needless to say I have to pull over to do this. There is supposed to be a way to enter custom EQ data using a six-band equalizer, but the crummy manual has defeated me entirely.
So it's a great product with great limitations. I'm going to keep mine, hoping Pioneer comes out with a flashable upgrade to the UI. After all, I can still have my whole damn collection on one USB drive and the unit plays them and sounds great. That's cool.

Pioneer DEH-4200UB CD Receiver with OEL Display and USB iPod Control Review

Pioneer DEH-4200UB CD Receiver with OEL Display and USB iPod Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the best single din player I have come across. I used sony xplod series earlier and have also used kenwood but I realized when I used Pioneer that it is a class apart. I have 4X4 infinity reference speakers installed. 1st time I used my pioneer, I thought "Do I have a sub in my car that I dont know about". I mean, I could actually feel the real power of infinity without amp just by installing pioneer!!
This system is amazing. I can tune it the way I want it too. It has HPF and LPF, so if I had an amp or sub, i can make use of it. One of the best thing about this is the blue OLED screen. Though I would have loved it to be 1.5 times or 2 times bigger than what it is but its great. Lot of options to choose from. I can also setup alarm on it (though i've never used it). The sound reproduction is very clear.
Dont buy the pioneer cable for ur iphone. Your regular charging cable will work just fine.
The negative:
Only thing I dont like is the joystick which is little less on grip. But I rarely use it as I am hooked to the remote.
All in all, the best your money can buy for the price. Thumbs up and pioneer again hit jackpot with this.

The "normal" functions of the radio including AM/FM and the CD player work just fine. However, I purchased this car audio receiver specifically for its full IPod compatibility, along with blue tooth. In order to use it with my IPod Touch the unit required a special Ipc40 integration cable, which I also purchased and installed. Initially, when I only had about 4-7 gigabytes of music on the IPod, the unit worked great and provided control of my IPod directly from the radio display. Now that I've got about 21 gigabytes of music on the IPod, the radio is unable to complete the "searching" function and just hangs in that mode. As a result of that failure, I am extremely disappointed with the unit.

Average Reviews:

Installed in 1995 Ford F150 XLT Ext. cab w/stock {for now} speakers.
Installation took about an hour, direct replacement of the factory HU. Pretty basic once you get the original HU out.
I've had my P7200HD for about a month now.
The HD sig reception is great and I've had no probs breaking/losing signal. Having the 3 row display is nice for song info, etc.
ipod {I'm using USB2.0 cable} controls are great and ipod can be controlled from HU or ipod, which is nice for passengers.
Audio control gives many options for tailoring personal tastes. I've been able to fine tune to where my factory speakers sound pretty darn good. {Still going to upgrade them though.}
I haven't tested the CD/XM/bluetooth capabilities yet, but I'm confident that they will perform as well as the rest of the system.
On a scale of 1-10 I give the P7200HD a 9.5.
The only improvement that I would have would be a dedicated ipod connection from the rear of the unit.
Would I recommend the P7200HD?
You bet!

My second DVD touch-screen receiver to install this year. The Pyle PLDN70U unit works as described. The screen is difficult to view with the sun to your back. The motorized screen seems strong and assures confidence. Limited audio adjustment. If you intend to drive a sub-woofer and four interior speakers this may not be the best choice. Read the owners manual before purchasing to make sure you able to configure the outputs to your design requirements. Best deal out there for less than $200.

Kenwood Kdc-Bt645U In-Dash CD Receiver with Bluetooth and USB Input Review

I was very disappointed that this unit will not stream music over the bluetooth connection. I should have paid closer attention to the specifications. The overall function and sound of the stereo is good but since the audio streaming was the only reason for me to replace my stereo this unit is going back. I am in the process of contacting Kenwood to see if a firmware upgrade will allow music streaming if so I will keep it.

Boss BV9155B In-Dash Double-DIN 4.5" DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Receiver with USB, SD Card, Bluetooth and Front Panel AUX Input (Detachable Front Panel) Review

Boss BV9155B In-Dash Double-DIN 4.5 DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Receiver with USB, SD Card, Bluetooth and Front Panel AUX Input (Detachable Front Panel)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This had all the features we were looking for -- Bluetooth connectivity without a separate microphone to install, detachable faceplate, DVD support, SD support, USB and external audio input on the faceplate. I also appreciate the dial volume knob, and that many of the controls have hard buttons as well as touchscreen equivalents.
The sound is much better than our factory-installed stereo (in a Kia Sedona) -- richer sound, deeper bass, but not distracting or distorting (all with the factory-installed speakers). The tuner has slightly more static than our old stereo off the same antenna, but the difference isn't great.
The touchscreen excels on the tuner setting -- a nice display that shows time, radio station, and your current preset settings (each preset shows the frequency associated with it). While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some high-end stereos have (it doesn't detect and display the station call letters), it does fine.
Where things break down a little is when you put in an MP3 source (CD/DVD or SD card -- I haven't tried USB yet but I assume it's the same). The screen is split into three sections. One tiny line across the top shows what's currently playing, on a slowly scrolling display. This display is way too small to be particularly useful -- you won't be glancing at the dash to see the name of the current song when you're playing MP3s. The left half of the screen shows the directory listing, and the right half shows the filenames for the current directory. The MP3 metadata only displays for what's playing, not for the file listings. Because the screen is broken up left-and-right, the width of each section is less than half the total width of the display -- which means if your MP3 files are named something like "01-First Song on the CD.MP3", then you'll probably see something like this in the directory listing: "01-01-F" -- the first 1 is the system telling you it's the first song on the list, and then you get about 4-6 characters of the filename itself. That makes finding the right song on a directory listing pretty difficult. While you play an MP3 source, you see this menu display -- and that's it. Blech. Sounds great, looks awful. They'd have been better off showing fewer directories and files on the screen at once, and letting them take the full width to show more of the names. Oh well, it works.
The bluetooth connection works well for handsfree phone calls, and the audio on it is surprisingly good for a condenser mike built into a faceplate -- not awesome, but for talking while driving it's pretty great. Road noise isn't bad, and the driver is quite understandable. I didn't hear any echo when I talked to my wife, and my voice was coming out the car speakers and hers was coming through the mike on the faceplate.
I haven't watched any video on the screen, as I didn't want to tear everything apart to figure out how to hook it up to the parking brake. This does point out one other annoying feature if you don't hook up the park brake (or use it with the park brake disengaged) -- changing to anything other than tuner pops up an ugly blue screen with a message warning about watching video while you drive, which stays up for several seconds. Even if you put in an audio CD, you'll see the warning before you get to a menu screen. It's obnoxious, but it's not a big deal. If you do put in a DVD, you can still listen to it even though the video won't show if you haven't hooked it up to the park brake or if you have and the brake isn't set -- if you have a music video DVD, this might be useful, though the sound is only stereo and not 5.1 Dolby or DTS or anything fancy.
The detachable faceplate comes with a little fabric pouch with a drawstring -- don't expect it to offer much protection beyond avoiding minor scratches.
All in all, pretty solid. Good sound and an awesome set of features makes the flaws sufferable, and it looks great in the dash (maybe I'll add pictures later -- comment if you want some). I'd consider buying another, if my other van's dash had a double-DIN slot (at 1.5-DIN, this just isn't an option).

Sony MEXBT3900U In-Dash CD Receiver MP3/WMA/AAC Player with Bluetooth Review

Sony MEXBT3900U In-Dash CD Receiver MP3/WMA/AAC Player with Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

Bought two of these - one went into my wife's Honda Accord and the other into my Honda Civic. Both work perfectly well. You have to buy the separate microphone to get good audio quality for the party on the other end. The built-in mic is not good quality.
The unit pairs with my phone every time flawlessly. I like the fact that it tells you whether the phone is paired to route just media, just phone or both audio signals. Love listening to Pandora from my HTC smartphone directly to the car speakers. Has made my commute so much more enjoyable.
I haven't figured out and don't know if this can be done - when someone calls the unit displays the phone number and not the name of the calling party. It would be nice if it actually displayed the name from your contacts info on the phone. Otherwise, how are you supposed to know who is calling?

I ordered this item from Amazon. Once I had it professionally installed I was informed that it was a faulty radio because my Drivers side tweeter wouldn't work with it but would with other tested radios. I informed Amazon and they overnighted another radio to me and once it was installed I was very impressed. Looks great in a car with a double din. Plays DVD flawlessly! Touch screen is very responsive and many options etc!! My speakers are much louder and more clear now with this unit. Would recommend buying from Amazon before going to your audio shop where they would charge you much more!

Pioneer AVIC-F700BT In-Dash Navigation Audio Receiver with CD Playback and Advanced Voice Controls Review

Pioneer AVIC-F700BT In-Dash Navigation Audio Receiver with CD Playback and Advanced Voice Controls
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pioneer has acknowledged that the first release of this system had issues ... freezing up, parking break warning for no reason, lack of proper brightness, etc. But they issued an upgrade in July of 2008. THIS UPDATE FIXES EVERYTHING.
I have this unit, I used it before the update (lots of problems -- all clearly explained in multiple posts all over the internet). But I downloaded the firmware, installed it, and now it works AWESOME. I truly have to give it to Pioneer for acknowledging their error and spending time to listen to owners and fix it.
I love this unit. I hook up my Iphone 3G and watch podcasts, listen to music, and everything. I have SM radio for it and I use the GPS all the time. I use the bluetooth with my iphone and the call clarity is fantastic.
I'm serious when I say this is a great value and much better than the D3 unit it replaced, but you have to install the firmware. Do that and I'll love it.

Built-in Bluetooth allows you to make hands-free calls on compatible devices, and Pioneer's voice-recognition software lets you use voice commands to control your phone or iPod (with separate iPod adapter). Hugely expandable, with options for iPod connectivity, MSN Direct, HD radio, XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio, and more, the AVIC-F700BT also includes a USB interface for quick connection to iPod music players, portable media players and USB memory device. Additionally, SD memory card support means you can insert cards filled with additional Points of Interest or compressed audio and video for your use and enjoyment. Link all your devices together into one seamless experience.
5.8-inch Widescreen LCD The AVIC-F700BT features a 5.8-inch widescreen color LCD with WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, perfect for navigation via GPS, or simply navigating your audio files.
A New Class of Navigation No more hassling with map discs. Now you don't have to worry about discs being misplaced, damaged, lost, or stolen because we've done away with them for the F-Series navigation line. Pioneer has taken the entire TeleAtlas Database that was previously on the two-DVD set, compressed it down, and stored it internally on flash memory.
Touch panel key operation--It is possible to operate the navigation and audio functions by using the touch panel key.
2D and 3D map view modes--Various types of screen displays can be selected for navigation guidance
A variety of Points of Interest (POI) information--More than 100 types of POI categories are included in the database. You also can create your own customized POIs and categories.
Auto reroute function--If you deviate from the set route, the system will re-calculate the route from that point so that you remain on track to the destination.

Freedom of Speech The AVIC-F700BT offers a new generation of voice recognition capability for controlling iPod playback and making calls hands-free via connected Bluetooth-enabled cell phones. The technology accepts and recognizes conversational phrases and language, filters out superfluous sounds and phrases, and if the user doesn't give enough information in the command, the unit will ask additional questions to clarify the request.
In Touch, Hands-Free The AVIC-F700BT comes with built-in Bluetooth. Now you never need to miss a call, even if your tunes are cranked up or your phone is buried in your bag.
Mobile Media Pioneer has created a line of Navigation systems that make it easy to play various digital and audio formats like: CD-R/RW discs, Portable Media Players like iPod, USB memory devices, and SD Cards. The AVIC-F700BT can play a wide range of files types as well, such as MP3, WMA, iTunes AAC, and MPEG-4 video files.
Make it Personal Personalize your drive. AVIC FEEDS freeware contains POI Creator, Driving Report, and Picture Editor Applications. You never know where the road will take you, but our POI Creator can help you get started on the right path.
Blending In Like its predecessor, the AVIC-D3, the new AVIC-F700BT allows you to change the illumination color to match your car. Select from among 32,768 different colors to match car interior and dashboard lighting.
Seeing Is Believing The old WQVGA displays that most Navigation units use are 480 x 234 pixels. However, the WVGA display is much higher quality at 800 x 480 pixels. Images become sharper and more defined, just like our maps and menus on these units. The display's enhanced GUI (Graphic User Interface) has also advanced, making system control and management effortless.
iPod Control Made Simple With the new CD-IU230V cable, you can directly control your music and videos from your iPod. Fast and easy control through USB, the AVIC-F700BT also features iPod Album Art display, Alphabetical Speed Search, and much more.
AM/FM Radio Always have your favorite stations at hand with 18 FM and 6 AM user presets.

Best Stations Memory Setting your radio presets can be a real pain while you're driving--especially if you're in an unfamiliar area. So, let the tuner do the work for you by activating the Best Stations Memory (BSM) function. The tuner will seek out the six strongest stations in the area and set them into the tuner presets.
Adding Another Set of Eyes For safer parking, try using the ND-BC2 or ND-BC20PA backup cameras. The system automatically displays images shot from a connected camera as the vehicle shifts into reverse.

AUX-In Connection Use the built-in AUX input for connecting any portable digital player or other external auxiliary devices. For extra-convenient access, the AVIC-F700BT has this input on the front panel.

Pioneer MVH-P7300 3" In-Dash AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control and Pandora Review

Pioneer MVH-P7300 3 In-Dash AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control and Pandora
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second pioneer I've owned in 10 years. The first had many annoyances that I had hoped pioneer fixed. The only reason I bought another pioneer was I was trying to use my same XM box - the 910. It doesn't work, you need the newer 920 to see channel data, etc. although you can hear it. My problem with this unit is sometimes while driving the knob can be tricky, the remote is still awful - you can't do everything with it and have to get halfway done with a task then reach for the unit, and just the way it works is wacky - like on XM up gets you to channels, but in iPod mode up doesn't take you to songs.
It's little stupid things like this that lead me to think there has to be a better way, the remote for example could easily work better (this hasn't changed in 10 years) and the way you scroll through and just operate the unit is not intuitive to me. I haven't played with other units from other manufacturers, but I'm assuming they are easier. It's a nice radio, quality is excellent - it's a pioneer afterall. I just wish someone over there would pick up an apple product and see how easy and intuitive controlling it could be rather than annoying. For example in the iPod mode going to the song list requires two tricky steps in a bouncing car. Fine on a smooth road, but a rough road could cause you to move the control knob wrong. Then when you are on the song if you would like to go back to the list you would think a simple "up" press on the knob or remote would get you back? No. That's only in XM mode! In iPod mode you need to click, scroll down to list, etc.
Anyway I won't bore you with any more details. In my opinion it's a nice radio that I can't help but think it could be easier to navigate. Pioneer hasnt changed though in 10 years so maybe this is as good as it gets. I'd still recommend playing with this unit and others at a store to see which you like better. Something I didn't do. Good news is amazon has the best price any where and at under $250 this unit is very good. At full retail I would feel a bit cheated. Also maybe go for the 8300. It has Bluetooth - big deal, but the best thing is the remote is different. Has a similar knob like the unit so maybe it's easier to use? Just a thought.
