Jabra FreeSpeak Bluetooth Headset for non-Bluetooth phones with 2.5mm Jack Review

Jabra FreeSpeak Bluetooth Headset for non-Bluetooth phones with 2.5mm Jack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using mine with my Sony Ericsson T68i for about three months now. Setting the headset up took a little while to figure out, the documentation was just plain wrong. But once I paired the headset with my phone I was up and running.
PROS: No headset wires to get tangled up in. The phone can be in your pocket, on your belt, or in your purse. Also the shape and size makes it comfortable to wear for extended periods. It's lightweight and not bulky. Although the earpiece can plug directly into your ear I suspect it was designed to actually sit slightly outside your ear canal. You can adjust the volume directly from the earpiece and it can easily be switched to wear on either ear.
CONS: Although the sound is intelligble and loud, the overall quality is not as good as a corded headset. Also the sound quality appears to be inconsistent. Some days I'll get alot of static, other days I'll get a clear reception. Callers say that they are able to hear me clearly, but could also hear faint background noise, some have reported a very faint buzzing sound. The Bluetooth signal overall is pretty weak, sometimes turning your head slightly can result in static. Not having a clear line of sight between the headset and phone can sometimes result in static. I found that it's best to keep the phone within 3 or 4 feet. But sometimes I couldn't get a connection to my phone even when my phone is sitting right next to me! I suspect other 2.4ghz radio signals in the area were jamming me.
Overall the headset isn't bad, but unless you do alot of talking or HAVE to have the latest gadget & technology, you may want to wait for the next generation of Bluetooth headsets. I suspect future headsets will have better range and sound quality. The average consumer might want to wait till the Bluetooth sound quality matches corded headset quality.

Scosche Universal Bluetooth Handsfree and Streaming Audio Car Kit Review

Scosche Universal Bluetooth Handsfree and Streaming Audio Car Kit

Sadly, my BT1200 arrived dead upon arrival. The unit was getting power, but it failed to turn on. Several attempts to contact tech support at Scosche proved useless. I was promised a return authorization number, if I contacted them by email. When I did, I did not get a response nor the RAN. I followed up, and was still ignored. My advice, do not buy this, or any other Scosche product.

Communicator Blue C100S USB Speakerphone for Skype Review

Communicator Blue C100S USB Speakerphone for Skype
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Everyone who gives the Polycom Communicator C100S a great rating is absolutely correct. Under Windows XP this device is awesome. The sound quality is great on both ends. It doesn't take you long to realize that you are carrying on a conversation in a much more natural manner without a headset on.
When you want to use this device on any operating system other than Windows XP, you'll find that the device is nothing more than a cheap speaker and desktop microphone. Of course it works with Skype on Linux, MacOS and Windows Vista, just like any other speaker and desktop microphone do. Crappily.
The magic of this device is in the software. The echo cancellation and sound quality are all products of the drivers that lie between Skype and the device. Wihout those drivers, the device is just an expensive USB speaker/microphone. Those who say that the device works with MacOS and Vista are only partially right. The Skype integration buttons do not work on anything but XP and I could live with that. But the audio processing in the driver is what makes this device usable with Skype. Without it, there is terrible echo from your side that makes the device unusable. You may as well use a cheap pair of speakers and a cheap desktop microphone. You'll get the same performance and it'll cost you a lot less.
Windows Vista has been available to the software developers at Polycom for over a year now and there is apparently no Vista driver in the works. This means that the Polycom Communicator C100S is useless for almost all new computer purchasers. (I did recently read that Dell is now offering Windows XP on some new PC purchases. I belive for enterprise level buyers only though.)
There is apparently now no plan to release a Mac driver, as if there was ever one in development. Which I highly doubt. So, according to my spidey senses, unless you use Windows XP exclusively, and don't have any plans for a new computer, purchasing this device now is a waste of money.
This is a terrible shame as the Polycom Communicator C100S is an awesome device and I was really looking forward to using it when I purchased it. So far I haven't been able to use it more than once, as they haven't released any Vista drivers. I did use it once with a VMWare virtual machine running Windows XP, just to make sure that my device wasn't broken, and it does work as advertised on Windows XP.
Vista drivers were supposed to be released mid 2007, but it's almost mid 2008 now and there are no hints that they have ever assigned a software guy the task of writing them. My advice is to wait until Polycom shows some interest in supporting this device with current operating systems before shelling out any money for it. :o(

I plan on buying one. It has lots of options, Plus I have read some threads on it, some good some bad. But these threads were two years old.... Best Buy sell's the 9200 for $399.00. Plus you can play music, Text to speech, and I believe it takes a micro sd card.

Jensen Deluxe Bluetooth Hands Free Kit with A2DP Music Transfer Review

Jensen Deluxe Bluetooth Hands Free Kit with A2DP Music Transfer

I bought this item for my brother, i set this up in his truck and the product delivered. Connected very easy with the iPhone also synced his contact. The music over the FM transmitter was phenomenal it took over the station with clarity. The calls were great i decided to use the external speaker for it instead of FM transmitter, the microphone can pickup the voice clear and cancel other sounds. Using both speaker and FM option it will cancel one out and return to its previous state. Very glad i choose this over the cigarrete lighter ones.

Parrot CK3200 LS-COLOR - Bluetooth hands-free car kit Review

Parrot CK3200 LS-COLOR - Bluetooth hands-free car kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit has worked really well on my 2006 Honda Odyssey Touring with the Navigation option. This is the most complex Odyssey audio package available with the built in DVD system that supports Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, etc. It has active amplification that is outside the car stereo "head unit" in the dashboard. If the Parrot is installed using any of the supposed ready made harnesses that allow integration of the Parrot and the car stereo, the sound from the Parrot will be a lot louder than tolerable. This is because the Parrot has its own amplifier and a little switching box that sits inside the dashboard when installed. This feeds into a "T" harness which essentially allows the Parrot to switch out the stereo and connect itself to your speakers when it is activated by a call. In any simpler stereo, this would be fine because this arrangement cuts out the car's amplifier. In my car, the downstream amp makes the sound waaayyy too loud, no matter how you set the Parrot's volume.
The solution, then, was to delete the harness I bought ($29.95) with the Parrot from Crutchfield's and replace it with a much more expensive ($149.99) harness from Quickconnect products. This more expensive harness eliminates the Parrot harness and the extra aftermarket harness, but adds its own harness and yet another little electronic box that properly attenuates and switches the audio signals so that the resulting sound does not hurt you or your expensive audio system.
What if you don't have an Odyssey Touring? Well, the point is that you may have some other fancy car audio system and you need to know what it's layout and compatibility are before you buy this BT system or any other that patches directly into your audio. This was an expensive mistake for me, since if I had known about the nearly double cost, i would have just asked my wife (it's her car) to just turn the radio off manually and use the cheapo Motorola BT clip on speaker we have when she needs to talk in the car. (CA handsfree law, you know).
Another reviewer commented that the installation instructions on the Parrot are bad. I would second that. I got through it OK, but I'm a long time electronics engineering nerd, and would say that if you are not an experienced car stereo installer or electronics kinda person, then get some pro help.
I unfortunately purchased this item on the recommendation of Crutchfield's phone sales person and then was too busy to check it out before my 30 days return window ran out. This makes this an indictment of me as much as Crutchfield's since I didn't check it out sooner. I have found in the past that Crutchfield's costs more, but was totally reliable in the advice and instructions department. They also have all onshore (US) based phone support and were helpful in diagnosing the issues. That said, they blew the initial recommendation, so a big Caveat Emptor (buyer beware) to all of you.
Conclusion: It all works great now, but it took twice as long and cost twice as much as I had hoped.

Jawbone Jambox Wireless Speaker and Bluetooth Speakerphone Review

Jawbone Jambox Wireless Speaker and Bluetooth Speakerphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is seriously one of the coolest accessories I have ever seen. This is a great product that completely exceeded my expectations.
Uses:
- The Jambox is perfect for a full, quality sound in a limited space (1-2 rooms) and for any casual gathering.
- It is not intended as a system replacement that would fill 10 rooms of a house party with club volume sound.
Pros:
- The speakers sound great at all but the very loudest setting with strong highs/mids and surprisingly good bass from such a tiny system. Great sound from both Pandora (free content) and iTunes (AAC 192 K VBR compression).
- Better sounding than any other tiny speaker systems (not fairly compared with any of the high end iPod/iPhone dock systems)
- The pairing from both my iPhone and iPad was a snap and I was pleasantly surprised I can keep both paired at the same time.
- Elegant and solid physical design that is in a class all its own (nothing else comes close at this size)
- Polished interface and software design with upgradable firmware and feature add-ons. I plan to test this soon.
- Smaller and more solid than expected
- Excellent speaker-phone performance (as expected from Jawbone). Others could not tell I was on a speaker-phone.
- The battery came fully charged.
- High end packaging (iPhone inspired no doubt) that contained a large array of cables (unlike iPhone). Cons:
- The range is ok but probably closer to 20 or 25 feet and not the 35 claimed.
- As expected the Bluetooth doesn't work through walls (at least not the solid walls with oil paint used in my apartment, which also severely hampers our wi-fi).
- Price is steep but I consider that the cost of miniaturization and early adoption. I would not be surprised to see this come down to $150 in a few months.

Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone (Black, Retail Packaging) Review

Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Speakerphone (Black, Retail Packaging)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't give 5 stars that often, but I love this thing.
The calls are very clear as advertised and they can hear me fine as well. It's fantastic being able to finally answer calls hands free in the car; no having to have an earpiece or anything.
I love that you can connect two Bluetooth devices at once; I don't have a smartphone, but I can connect my basic cellphone with Bluetooth to this device, as well as my iPod Touch to send music to it!
The size makes it great to take it with you anywhere and use it as a speakerphone/speakers at home.
It looks great on the sun visor of the car, as well on a desk.
There is also a built-in FM transmitter. Personally, the transmitter doesn't seem that much of an advancement to send a clear strong signal than other FM transmitters that I've owned (still getting a static or fuzzy sound on a higher volume), but still, it is definitely a nice bonus to have!
The auto on/off can be a hit or miss: it usually tells me "connected" right when I open my car or after I turn on my engine. I feel the auto-on part definitely works better than the auto-off. I usually need to manually unsync my phone or iTouch from the Jabra, especially when my car is just parked in the garage and I'm still very close in range in my house.
Something to keep in mind: I've tried calling from my home phone to my cellphone/Jabra and I've noticed there is a slight delay for the Jabra to wake up and say "Incoming call" - it definitely isn't "real-time" immediately on the first ringing; it could actually be ringing for two or three times until the Jabra does actually tell you someone is calling. On top of that, if the Jabra doesn't understand your voice saying "Answer", it can add up to the delay of answering and greater chance you may end up missing the call. I think to be really safe, it's best to physically press the answer button. Maybe this "delay" can be improved in a future firmware update. However, I'm sure most people wouldn't be hanging up after just ringing two/three times anyway. If you miss the call, you can press the "Voice" button and say "Call back" to call back the last incoming number.
Holding on the "Voice" button for a few seconds will tell you how much battery life is left.
Holding on the main Telephone icon call button on the top takes me directly to my phone voice commands.
Double tapping the Telephone icon redials the number automatically.
The device is also firmware upgradeable if there are any improvements in the future.
It uses a Micro USB to charge.
If you ever feel like using your cellphone in the car, when you think about the safety and traffic ticket costs, this product is a no brainer worthy investment. The versatility of this product being suitable for home use just makes it even better. Fantastic design.
Recommended.

Sony MEXBT5700U CD Receiver Bluetooth Hands-Free and Audio Streaming Capability (Black) Review

Sony MEXBT5700U CD Receiver Bluetooth Hands-Free and Audio Streaming Capability (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this product from a cheaper source, but use these reviews to determine which head unit to buy. The MEX-BT5700U had all the features I was looking for at a decent price. I have a '92 Toyota Pickup with a manual transmission, so Bluetooth calling was my top priority (safety) as my state hasn't implemented handsfree calling laws yet. My calls at highway speed (windows up) were clear and my caller only noticed a slight hum/noise and reported I sounded very clear. This was using the external mic provided on default settings for the gain and noise cancelling.
Note: if an external mic is provided with ANY head unit(this one comes with an external mic)USE IT, DO NOT bother with a head unit that you cannot add or use an external mic....proper mic placement is key. I placed my mic on the steering column in front of my gauges.
Pairing was simple, and iPod control is built in so you DO NOT need the separate iPod controller Sony sells for the other units. I also purchased the HD-Radio unit, but haven't installed it yet.
The controls, and layout are decent, but some functions take multiple pushes of a single button to reach, or spin the dial....this can be a bit tough while driving. I figure after some use I will figure out what buttons do what and how many times to push to get to a function. In my opinion, no head unit is completely intuitive but I believe this unit provides a reasonable logic to it, but could most certainly be improved like every other head unit on the market.
I recommend this unit to anyone looking for hands free calling, and iPod control. For the iPod control, all you need is your iPod USB cable, plug it in and the unit recognizes it and takes control. The unit can control the iPod, but nothing beats holding the iPod in your hand and selecting music the way you are used too. Looking at the screen you will still see the Artist Name and Song Title displayed even when in 'passenger mode'. Again, I haven't read a single review of any unit that has 'excellent' iPod controls.
Four stars because, no head unit is perfect, and Sony could probably spend more effort in making the controls more intuitive.

Scosche Bfta Bluefusion Interface Module For Factory Hands-Free (Toyota) Review

Scosche Bfta Bluefusion Interface Module For Factory Hands-Free (Toyota)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am mainly starting this review to let people know that this is not just for the module but the whole kit with this seller. Also the description states it is for a Honda but it worked great in my 07 Toyota Highlander. One of the better aftermarket too OEM Bluetooth solutions I have seen come out. I have only used it 30 min and will add to this when I have used it extensively. It works well and with my steering wheel controls which I have had issues with another Scosche module. It's in call volume is great and call quality is unnoticeable from just using the phone. The only bad thing I have to say is I get a small amount of static with high volumes and it can only use one phone at a time. Other than that it was a great purchase.
