PYLE PLTS79BT 7-Inch Single DIN In-Dash Motorized Touch Screen TFT/LCD Monitor with DVD/CD/MP3/MP4/USB/SD/AM-FM/RDS/Bluetooth and Screen Dial Pad Review

PYLE PLTS79BT 7-Inch Single DIN In-Dash Motorized Touch Screen TFT/LCD Monitor with DVD/CD/MP3/MP4/USB/SD/AM-FM/RDS/Bluetooth and Screen Dial Pad

I just installed my new Pyle few days ago, so i do not have a deep review, but i will give you my feed back so far.
The good.
* Well done, i mean, looks really god (does not look cheap).
* Nice image crisp and clear. Some quick access options for bright or dark days, and a complete set up menu to configure it.
* Good sound, a lot of output wiring options, including two rear video outputs, so you will upgrade your video with two more monitors if you like, without extra accesories.
* Wire harness included... in my case, Pyle included a harness that match my car connectors, so great bonus. Easy to mount, and easy to connect (by pass) the parking brake wire.
* USB and SD Card options.
* Plays the most common audio and video formats, including Divx for video and Windows media for songs.
The bad:
* The screen blocks the middle air conditioning vents, so most of the time the screen is inside (i live in a very hot place). That is why you really depends of the remote. One basic operation like forward or backward is not available on the panel. So, the only way to get it is with the screen or the remote.
* There is a "beep" any time you use the volume control... annoying thing, because is a loud beep for any point of volume, i mean, increase from 10 to 18 is 8 loud beeps.
* The source is controlled by one button. The control does not have a button for each source mode to play it fast, so you will need to push that button until you find the right source.
* Cooling fan sometimes very loud.
* The touch screen performance is not the best... difficult to set time or find the right song in the menu. Sometimes you need the remote to run the close menu lines.
So far, i think is a very good choice (Price Vs. Benefits). I made an upgrade on my Car sound system, because i use to have just a basic Cd Player, and now i have a lot of choices to run with this unit. I already ordered an additional 7" screen to maintain my kid busy in long trips.
I am very happy with this equipment and i will recommend you considering the bad items mentioned (not to bad, but annoying sometimes).

Eclipse AVN7000 7-Inch HD Navigation System With Dvd/Ms Multi-Source Receiver Review

Eclipse AVN7000 7-Inch HD Navigation System With Dvd/Ms Multi-Source Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Short review for those with attention deficit disorder:
Is the Eclipse AVN7000 worth two thousand dollars? Nope. Look elsewhere. There are a lot better ways to spend two grand.
Longer review:
Well, I purchased an Eclipse AVN7000 a couple days ago. I was very excited to get it installed in my new car. My options were limited, since I only had one DIN space to work with. So I chose the "top-of-the-line" AVN7000. Was it worth it? Nope.
Why, you ask? Well, I was expecting a feature rich, easy to use, well thought out and designed unit with all of the bells and whistles. What you get is another product that was rushed out the door, and forgotten about by the manufacturer.
The interface of this unit is clunky at best. There are very few buttons on the face of the unit - 10 buttons and a knob/button. That keeps it simple, but they managed to add several more on the touch screen itself - making me wonder why they put buttons on the face of the unit...?
The Nav button on the face only has one purpose: to jump you from wherever you are to the nav screen. While that is handy, I fail to see why it can't do something else while you're in Nav mode.
The Menu button takes you to an on-screen menu that is cryptic and poorly organized, and mostly to do with nav functions, NOT anything else. (I guess Fujitsu / Eclipse didn't really want you to use it as a stereo.)
The Display button controls the day/night dimming of the screen, or will turn the screen off altogether. Why you would want to turn it off I don't know, just close it! If you do turn it off, you'll wreck your car trying to figure out how to get it back on. You have to press the Nav button! Yeah, that's intuitive! Why not the Display button?!?
The Dest button brings up a menu of destination and Points of Interest (POI's). The menu looks easy to use, but is actually confusing. Just try to get it to show you the nearest gas station, and you'll know what I mean. You better pull over, because you're gonna be reading and "clicking" a lot to get it.
The Open/Close button controls the screen's tilt and will close the screen. Oddly, this button takes you to a menu where you can adjust tilt or close the screen. Am I the only person who thought you should just be able to tap the button and close the display? Nope, you have to hold it in for a second or two for the display to close.
The > buttons do the normal backward track and forward track skipping, like on most stereos. (Finally something standard!)
The ^ button ejects the CD or DVD you have inserted.
The volume knob is also a button, and it brings up a menu of all of the different options you have installed, such as CD, MP3 CD, DVD Movie, Rear View Camera, Side View Camera, etc. And you can easily switch between the functions. The volume knob can also be used to scroll through the functions when the display is closed. An odd abreviation of the function will appear on the stereo's mini display (not the big screen) when the screen is closed. The abbreviations are odd. CMP for an MP3 disc.
Sidetrack:
Who made that up? Why wouldn't you just use MP3? or even MP3 CD, the display has enough characters! I know that's nit-picky, but these are the things about this unit that just don't "sit right", and it's a good example of how the unit lacks "polish". These kinds of things could be easily avoided if the manufacturer had done some honest end-user trials with the unit before releasing it.
Back on track:
A power button is also available on the front, which works just as you would expect, it turns the audio portion off, but leaves the nav unit running and the display out and on.
One of my pet peeves about the unit is that the menus are not organized in any logical way. I know that sounds picky, but when I'm cruising down the highway at 70 mph, I don't need to be distracted pressing buttons, surfing menus, trying to find the option I'm looking for. There should be ONE menu button that takes you to a short menu of options, subdivided by category: nav, audio, configuration, etc. Then sub-menus as necessary. The current menus seemed to be organized from a designer's standpoint, and I'm sure they made perfect sense to the Fujitsu engineers. But we're not Fujitsu engineers. We're users. Make the menus make sense to normal people that just walked up to the device.
A word about the manual:
The manual that comes with the head unit is abyssmal. Yes, it tells you how to set a destination. How to switch between your audio CD and your memory stick (I'll get to the memory stick in a moment). But it doesn't answer ANY technical questions. You're left to trial and error and fudging your way through. Such as: The unit will read MP3 files from a CD-ROM or a memory stick. It also plays DVD movies. So why wouldn't it read DVD-ROM's with MP3's on them? Well, it doesn't. How hard would that be Fujitsu? Come on!
While surfing through the menus you'll notice that you can change the background image (wallpaper) or have it play an animation in the background - behind the menus. No where in the manual does it tell you HOW!
You'll also see in the menu's that you can configure the audio of the head unit. There are various controls, such as one that you set the type of vehicle it is in. The manual gives NO explanation of what this really means. A couple of the choices are: Compact and Small. What's the difference? We'll never know!
There's a section in the sound setup where you can set the crossover functions and speaker setup for your vehicle. There is NO explanation whatsoever in the manual of these functions. What choices should you make? What do the options really mean? Who knows!?!
Conclusion:
Overall, the MOST disappointing thing about this unit is the features that it is LACKING and that you would be expecting to have. Such as readily available and FREE nav data updates. After all, you're paying a premium price for this unit, it is insulting to charge for the updates. Well, there aren't ANY updates for this unit!! The data in the unit is from 2005, and there are no updates available!! The updates for other similar Eclipse units cost about three hundred dollars!!! Can you believe it! You can buy a LOT of copies of Microsoft Streets & Trips for that!
The nav data is also lacking in another horrible way. Some areas of the country only have "partial" data. You can see the streets and intersections on the map, but the computer can't navigate you in these areas. It just tells you the equivalent of "sorry, no data, too bad for you". Fortunately, the GPS still places you in the correct place on the map, it just can't tell you to "turn here" or route you around one-way streets or anything like that. To make that situation worse, there's NO WAY to tell an area with full data from an area with partial data!! You would think that it would be a different color or something. Another nice "feature" from Fujitsu. Thanks fellas!
On a personal note, I live smack-dap in the center of one of those partial data areas! So the device can't even navigate me to my own home! Of course, I know where I live, but it's just that more aggravating that a unit that costs this much does so little.
I mentioned Memory Sticks above. The unit will read Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo's (the MagicGate variety only) and ONLY the 128Mb or smaller! What!?! Yes, I said 128Mb or smaller. OK Fujitsu, what's that all about? Why Sony Memory Sticks? Why not the ubiquitous SD memory cards? Or even Compact Flash? Why the most expensive flash memory available? Why only 128Mb? What am I gonna do with that? My WATCH has more memory than that!! Ugh.
Well, I'm sure there are several other things I could complain about with this unit. I just hope I save at least ONE person from wasting there money on this clunky out-dated over-priced turd.

Valor NVG-720W In-Dash DVD Multimedia Receiver w/ Navigation Review

Valor NVG-720W In-Dash DVD Multimedia Receiver w/ Navigation
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Dont be afraid of the name Valor. They make top of the line equipment at a very reasonable price. This unit does it all and has a very friendly interface. Perhaps the biggest selling point is all the accessories it comes with. It comes with an ipod cable, nav dvd, a 2 gb card to download updates, 2 remotes and also a very "mouse" that allows you to change station/songs with a mouse scroll wheel as well as volume. Pretty much everything in the unit you can fully customize. The nav is very accurate and has a lot more points of interest than i ever expected. Sound quality is great with plenty of equalizer options. Bluetooth is a great function- i guess you dont always sound incredibly clear on the other end but no real complaints. If youre in the market for a multimedia system to handle everything you need- look no further. I had looked at pioneers and jensens and the extras you needed to buy were just too much. This is BY FAR the best bang for the buck. Dont hesistate because you want to buy a name brand. Youll end up with a better unit and only spend half the money.

Kenwood DNX7180 6.95" Nav/DVD Receiver Review

Kenwood DNX7180 6.95 Nav/DVD Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Where do I start... picked this up at best buy... had it installed by the guys there... they sucked but that's not what this review is about.
Firstly... the is my first review ever... I'm writing this because I don't want anyone else to buy this pos.
For $1200 it better "work"
1. It locked up 1 day after getting it.
2. It became super sluggish before it locked up.
3. The manual said the only way to fix it after a lock up was to hit the reset button in the bottom left corner. This reset the whole receiver to factory defaults. (omg i want to punch someone)
4. The DSP sounds horrible compared to how it sounds when I bypass it.
Kenwood messed this up big time... here's what probably happened.
1. they needed to meet a deadline to have the features complete
2. there wasn't enough time to optimize the features
3. they called it "complete" and shipped it with the worst quality ever
I'll never buy a kenwood receiver again. Their commitment to quality is non existant.

KENWOOD GPS Navigation Double-DIN Receiver DNX6980 Review

KENWOOD GPS Navigation Double-DIN Receiver DNX6980
Average Reviews:

I just got it on my new car. The system freezes and lags. It is slow. It restarts all the time, and all around, it is just bad. I can't input 4 addresses into the GPS address book at one time. Once I do, it breezes and reboots. When I start my car, the map loads forever. And I have to restart the NAV to get it working. I went back to the dealer and tested the demo. The demo did the same thing. Model DNX9980HD performed well without these problems. I hope Kenwood has a software fix soon. Otherwise, I will have to go with another brand.

Clarion NZ409 7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Clarion NZ409 7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pro: the price was right with the nav and it is well integrated. The sound is right up there with the Alpine I had before. It does run my iPod Nano as advertised. When I played a DVD, it played the music but not the video (because the parking brake was not on)...that was cool.
Con: I tried as hard as I possibly could to find a DVD player that would let me search through the iPod titles...this unit is down near the bottom of that capability about the best you can do with the iPod is put it on shuffle or make some good playlists. It may be that the next generation of gear will do this, but for now, you're almost better off getting a unit with a aux jack on the front and using the ipod itself.
The Nav is good but is very different than the Garmin Nuvi I have. It gets a fix very quickly, but got totally confused yesterday when I tried to go to a nearby town using backroads. I had to turn the nav off after I made one turn it didn't like. The Garmin seems to recover better and recalculate your trip when something is wrong (like the road it wants to use is closed for construction).
The voice sounds like one of those answering phone synthetic voices that reads your credit card number back to you, not near as nice as the Garmin.
Once I get over how cool it is having it all-in-one, I will starting thinking about how much I spent to have a stereo that sounds about as good as the one I had before, plays an ipod almost the same as the one I had before, and has a nav almost as good as the one I had suction-cupped to my windshield that I could put in any car I drove.....it is cool having a touch screen and I guess that is the feature I really paid for.

Myron & Davis NV7TPR1 2008-2011 Toyota Prius In-Dash Navigation System Review

Myron and Davis NV7TPR1 2008-2011 Toyota Prius In-Dash Navigation System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been looking for an in-dash Navigation System for the 2010 Toyota Prius for about a year now. The Toyota Dealer wanted a jaw dropping $4,000 for the factory system (yea right). The next best thing I could find was the Rosen a good quality OEM unit but hard to find and pricey.
So rather than give up, I checked out this Myron & Davis unit which is also an OEM type of unit. The photos on Amazon don't really do it justice. It matches the Prius trim perfectly and the screen is much bigger in the car than the photos suggest.
Strangely, the price of this unit changes almost daily from $818 (what I paid) to $1,400+ on Amazon which is a bit weird. Honestly, I would not buy this unit for more than $818 (plus the JBL cable and the iPod cable all extras....welcome to the crazy world of after market car audio).
Seems odd there are no Owner Reviews of the NV7TPR1 so thought I would write one. I am replacing the Toyota JBL Head Unit which I really disliked from day 1 especially the Satellite radio which sounded terrible.
First the good stuff about this Unit:
Only took an hour to install, it really was plug n play.
Matches the Prius dash materials exactly (as I said before).
NAV Screen is not bad, and is a touch screen (updating the map is a PAIN)
The iPod control is good, but I am using an iPhone 4 and the Head Unit will sometimes act like the ipod is playing, (shows song names and elapsed time) but no audio. Hmmm. Finally figured out for some reason I need to go into iPod on the phone and select "Dock Connector" instead of "MD" each time - weird.
DVD Player works well (though I will never use this feature).
Sound quality is far superior to the Toyota JBL Head Unit (obvious right away).
Once the map is updated (a pain - see below) the unit loads quickly and the voice guidance is ok (NOT great)
Steering Wheel controls all work (except the Toyota "talk-to" button)
Negatives:
The NV7TPR1 really feels like a solid product, BUT each feature has its own software that feels klunky and totally separate from the other features.
BlueTooth is so-so. Everytime I get a call on my iPhone, the phone rings but instantly the Head Unit disconnects from BlueTooth. I can make outgoing calls from the Head Unit screen but incoming is flaky (a real disappointment).
There is no way to "hold" the map magnification level once its started on your route. You can + or - the magnification, but the map reverts back to its 100% level in about 5 seconds. Annoying if you need the "big picture" like "Is The Silicon Valley Freeway, east or west of where i am right now?"
Getting the Map SD card out of the unit to update is a nightmare (trust me, trying to buy and install the map update for $59 from some website in korea through PayPal was not enjoyable. Ughh.)
The NV7TPR1 does NOT speak Street Names unfortunately.
If you want to search for a POI (point of interest i.e. Macy's) instead of assuming you want to look in the city where you are, it requires you to type in a city which is annoying. (Who wants to type Rancho Cucamonga over and over to search for McDonald's?)
The unit isnt all bad. I have had success in updating the map finally (also improved the voice making it louder and clearer.) Music sound quality is very good.
Its a geeky type of unit that requires patients to figure all of the features.
I am used to Acura navigation, so needless to say this doesn't compare. But an Acura doesn't get 52mpg either so its a trade off. I have heard the stock Toyota Prius Nav is awful so I can't complain about spending $814.
Overall I am pleased with the unit - having used GPS systems in rental cars etc this one isn't the worst but as I said, after installing and using the Myron and Davis NV7TPR1 I wouldn't pay more than $814, its not worth it.*** Update ***
So, I have been using the NV7TPR1 Toyota Prius Navigation and Media Unit for about 3 weeks. My original review is still accurate, but I wanted to add a few things I have discovered after living with the device daily.
First, I like the NV7TPR1 more now than I did when it was installed. Why?
I am more used to it's quirky software and decided to buy a used iPod Nano to leave in the car and always attached. This makes life easier since I am not constantly fishing for the iPod cable because I really like the interface on the touch screen. I just realized I can select songs from the iPod individually on the Nav touch screen which is really nice.
The NV7TPR1 has a virtual CD function which seems to be commonplace now, but what I dont like is that only commercial audio cd's can be added to the unit's memory (i.e. I have .mp3 cd's but the unit wont copy them to its memory for some reason?)
About the Navigation UI --
I hate to complain since this is a very complex and feature filled device but...
The unit always wants to keep a very close view of the road when driving. Yes, there is a Zoom out button (-) but it takes tapping it about 20 times to get a reasonable "high level" view of the area. Then, the all detail on the map disappears (street/freeway names etc) a VERY BAD DESIGN. The google map/nav on my iphone is so much better. This is still a big disappointment.
I think Myron Davis needs to switch map/software vendors to maybe Navteq?
There is also a problem with the "night" view. When the Prius headlights are on, the LCD screen dims slightly. But its way too bright in a dark vehicle. There are no other settings for brightness (yes in the Nav there is but not for the units other screens i.e. iPod)
I'm still not ready to sell my factory Prius stereo on ebay, I like the NV7TPR1 but I still need to be convinced that it will be reliable. Stay tuned.UPDATE 6/2011
Final update on the NV7TPR1.
At this point, I am pleased that I bought and had this unit installed. I was in a non- nav 2010 Prius recently and it looks really sad without an LCD screen (Toyota should have made Nav standard on the Prius in my opinion.)
The BLUETOOTH problems with the iPhone 4 seem to be fixed and stable. I replaced my black iPhone4 with a new White iPhone4 model, and I really believe Apple improved or fixed some consistent Bluetooth problems with the new model. In short, it works perfectly - in calls, outcalls, history, streaming music etc all work correctly on the NV7TPR1 touch screen (and with the Prius steering wheel controls as I wrote earlier). The unit does NOT give access to your phonebook/contacts, and there is no way to add them to the Nav unit (as I could with the Prius factory JBL head unit) I never used that feature because basically it was a nightmare to setup even the Prius Tech expert at the Toyota Dealership couldn't figure it out.
iPod music, search, etc all work as expected on the Nav touch screen. There is no album artwork as I think u can get on a new BMW.
The weakest part of the NV7TPR1 remains the actual Navigation and maps.
My opinion hasn't changed on this at all. Its really an awful device for navigation - the POI's are minimal and it routinely thinks the destination is on the other side of a freeway. Same problem with my house -- the previous map version didnt have this problem. But the $60 map update (see above) has all sorts of new problems and directional inaccuracies.
It annoyed me that Myron Davis support assured me I had the latest map software, which wasn't true at all. I had to pay for the update after I just bought the NV7TPR1 - not good Customer Service in my view.
The voices used for navigation are really bad, especially the very low volume level. No matter what setting I choose the voice is so low I can't even hear it in the Prius which is odd because the previous software version worked great. The unit also cuts the audio completely when speaking which isnt very pleasant. It should "reduce" the music volume like the iPhone navigation does. Actually, this is really annoying.
I have not used a Rosen unit in a Prius but i'm guessing it would still be a better choice and at $999 from Frank auto in San Diego I wish I had gone that route myself.

Kenwood DNX 6180 GPS Navigation System Review

Kenwood DNX 6180 GPS Navigation System
Average Reviews:

This unit looks great! Has a great interface (for the most part) and is pretty good at some things..... however its soooooo sloooooow!!
Every function from changing sources to navigating through any menu system takes time.... I even found the GPS to be sluggish.. I would turn onto a street and it would take 3 to 5 seconds or so to figure out that I even turned....
That was disappointing to me consider Garmin GPS was the reason I got the thing... also the EQ is terrible!! Its pretty hard to customize your sound to get it the way you want... and is definitely not easy to do and is quite time consuming...
Things that I did like was the flashy look of the interface... and the phone book was actually pretty decent... but however the fact that even this was sluggish made it frustrating going through it.
Its almost like Kenwood released a product thats processor is underpowered therefore making the entire unit too slow.
Its too bad actually because if it was more responsive it would be a really awesome unit.
I returned the 6180 and instead went with the Pioneer X930BT... and am pretty happy with it.... its extremely responsive (as soon as you press a button it does it) and the Ipod intergration is much better.
Also to my surprise I found the GPS to actually work better then the Garmin in the 6180?? Go figure... I always used Garmin but I guess Pioneer isn't that bad after all....

What do you want to know? Is it a good product that does what it supposed to do? Yes! You have to buy a hook up to connect your ipod to it so you can play the videos on your ipod. You have to buy the rear cam also to hook up to it. It is a great product. I love watching my ipod videos on it. I love the quality of the screen. It works fast enough for me and I show it in my video. You can hook up a 5 channel amp for the front and one to your subs too. You can have your xm, ipod, xbox 360, radio, nav, tel, tunner all hooked up and ready to play! Can also use the video out to go to another source. I have a Honda Del Sol so not much use of another source for me. ha. Some of the concerns I had when reading the reviews I go over in my video. I hope it helps!; I had to edit the video a little. I took out the middle, but the key points are still there.

Clarion NX409 6.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Clarion NX409 6.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I debated buying this NX409 but couldn't resist the price/feature list. While it's loaded with about every feature you could want not all of them work or don't work the way they should.
Navigation:
The GPS doesn't update fast enough so that the vehicle position indicator is not correctly displayed on the map relative to the cross streets especially at speed. The turn by turn voice guidance sometimes says to turn right when you actually are turning left. Many of the POI's are not accurate both for location on the map and also that some don't exist. If you can get beyond the robotic tone and poor text to speech pronunciation...the voice guidance also truncates some road names. Two of the features listed in the GPS menu don't work at all (like the alert tone option when you are approaching your turn). This may be a software bug as they won't even stay selected.
Sirius Radio:
Mostly works well except way too often you'll power the unit up and all the presets you spent time getting just the way you want are gone. That gets old after about the 5th time.
Ipod:
I plugged in my Shuffle to the USB port and it says "unrecognized file format". So I thought I'd check that it's on the list of supported Ipods on the Clarion site. Click on Ipod compatability list and gee..."page not found". At least there's some synergy between their products and the web site.
Other:
The Bluetooth BLT 370 option is a waste of money. Way too often when you start the car it will lock up the radio with a "phone in use" displayed( even when there is no cell phone within a mile of the vehicle)...you then have to shut off the ignition and open the door to get it to power down then restart the car. It sync's up with the phone great but everyone says I sound like I'm calling from the Mariana trench.
The clock setting can only be set manually. When you select your correct time zone and DST to sync the time using the GPS it's off by two hours.
Last but not least Clarion's support both on the web site and by phone is a waste of time.
On a positive note the quality of the audio is very good as is the DVD display.

Alpine INA-W900 - Navigation system with DVD player, LCD monitor, digital player and radio Review

Alpine INA-W900 - Navigation system with DVD player, LCD monitor, digital player and radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would rate this unit an 8.8/10. I own a 2009 Honda Accord Ex-L w/o Nav because Honda charges a ridiculously high price for their navigation package and I knew I could do better for cheaper with aftermarket. This unit does an ok job with its navigation, but not as good as other units. The alpine has about 6 million points of interest compared to 12 million of other units so if you are searching for a location without its address, it could pose potential problems. As far as map updates, I doubt it. I have heard from Alpine owners of past and they still haven't released a map update for previous models. A feature I would have liked to seen is the ability to send an address to your headunit from googlemaps which would have negated the need for map updates in my opinion. The turn by turn navigation is nice, the voice is not annoying and it has an adjustable setting that controls how loud the voice comes in over your music. Another feature I like is being able to see your next turn even if you are on the audio screen.
Where this unit shines, in my opinion, is its ipod integration.
**Disclaimer: Be forewarned if you have an ipod touch you will have issues with it because it is not completely compatible with the ipod touches. There will be occasional disconnects and the only solution is to unplug and then plug back in your ipod, even on the latest firmware, 3.1 as of this message. I have confirmed this with Alpine support (which is sub par at best). This would have been a deal breaker for me, but luckily I have a classic also that works very well with it even though there are some minor quirks though (not a dealbreaker in my book), but that could be because of the ipod, it is rather old and has been run over.**
The way you access your ipod is pretty much mimicked through the Alpine. You have access to everything you would normally have when using your ipod (music, movies, podcasts, playlists...). The sound quality using the ipod to the headunit is nice!!! I am no audiophile but music sounds great from this headunit with the settings I currently have. I have heard from others that the IMPRINT module makes it sound even better if you don't know how to properly configure your settings by yourself (which I know I don't). Album artwork shows up nicely in the corner if you have artwork for the song or if you prefer, your next turn if using navigation. One thing I would have liked to have seen with the ipod integration is a search function so you don't have to scroll through all of your music. I have 4,000+ songs and even though you can scroll by alphabet, it would make things a lot faster in some cases if I could just use a search function that narrowed down all the available listings every time you clicked another letter to the song/artist/album name like you would do with your ipod. Speaking of the alphabet search function, it can be a little hairy at times. You would think that since one of the selling points of this head unit is its ipod integration, it would sort songs like iTunes does seeing as how iTunes is the only way to put songs on your ipod. For example, lets say I have the following list of songs:
Almost Easy
American Idiot
...And Justice for All
Arterial Black
Baba O'Riley
If I am currently on a screen that shows these 5 songs and I hit the Alphabet > button you would think it would put the 'B' listings at the top, but it doesnt. It sees the ... and puts that at the top of the screen since it is different from 'A'. So now we have ...And Justice for All at the top of the screen and if I were to hit the Alphabet > button again, Arterial Black would show at the top because 'A' is different from .... iTunes ignores these just like it does the word 'The' in song titles when sorting by alphabet but this headunit does not. Minor quirk, I know.
Video looks great on the 7 inch screen and the sound quality is great as well when using a DVD. If you use a converter to change a video to ipod format (instead of DVD format) from say .flv (YouTube's format) or .avi there is some sound/video quality loss but it is still convenient to be able to store all of your movies on your ipod and have them accessible at any time.
I also bought an Alpine backup camera to go along with the headunit and it is a dream to have. I am very surprised it came with toggable cones to help you measure distance. Along the same lines, this headunit is an awesome all in one system. There are connections for another AUX input so if you wanted to put in say a front camera or PS2, this system is accomodating. Be prepared to pony out the money for extras though (backup camera, Imprint, HD radio, SIRIUS, Bluetooth). These are all seperate modules that you must pay for. I was a little disheartened to see you had to pay out extra for Imprint and Bluetooth. Maybe not so much the Imprint, but definately the Bluetooth I felt should have been included.
The touchscreen user interface is responsive and user friendly, not to mention eye candy. Be prepared to hear people say "I want that" for any passengers you might have. Menus are easy to navigate and provide adequate system options. I cannot speak on audio options such as HPF or LPF, for people with aftermarket audio systems, as I don't have one and I have never dealt with options like that before.
All in all, this unit is a definate + in my book. I am very happy with my purchase and am glad I didn't buy a different head unit, I would just like to see some map updates and I will be a very happy man.
Summary:
+++Definate headturner
++Audio Sound Quality
+Touchscreen interface
+Ipod Integration...
-Assuming you don't have a iTouch
+Built to be an all in one device...
-If you shell out extra money for the modules
+- Navigation package has its moments. Map updates hold this unit back from being competitive with other units.

JVC Mobile Regular KWNT3HD Navigation Head Unit with HD Radio Review

JVC Mobile Regular KWNT3HD Navigation Head Unit with HD Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I finally got off my hump and decide to change my factory radio in my 2008 Chevy Impala LT. I researched so many stereos and finally settled on the JVC NT3HDT. I made a list of all the features I wanted in my new stereo, and the JVC NT3HDT met each one. I was looking for a stereo that included built-in Bluetooth, HD radio, navigation, lifetime traffic updates, iPod/iPhone control, SD card slot, USB port, speed alerts, DVD player, and voice control. I was not interested in XM radio since I do not subscribe to the service. The only place where the unit fell short was that there wasn't any voice control. I went to a local installer and had the stereo installed along with a Boyo VTL420 backup camera. I had already read the online manual on JVC so I put it to the test.
I read previous reviews where there were complaints about the startup time. I see no lag. I guess because as soon as I start up the car I am usually backing out of my garage or a parking space so the backup camera comes on immediately. There are options to adjust the display settings so I could tweak it where I was comfortable. The navigation is awesome. There are 3 map viewing options. I chose the 2D display. There are so many options including avoiding toll roads, ferries, and highways to the shortest and quickest course. You can add your own POIs from Google Maps using Street Assistant that can be downloaded from the JVC website, but the unit comes loaded with so many POIs like gas stations, restaurants, and department stores. You can also set up alerts for the POIs on your route. The traffic alerts come in handy. I love being able to get in the car and look at Traffic Incidents instead of waiting for a traffic update on the radio or trying to check it before I leave the house. It has real time traffic updates as well. The second day I had the stereo I was on the highway when an accident happened about 7 or 8 cars in front of me. About 5 minutes before that I had checked the traffic incidents, and there was were no incidents. I checked the traffic incidents 5minutes later and confirmed the accident was listed and was able to select the option to detour the accident. I currently have the detour traffic incidents feature set to manual, but it can be set to automatically detour accidents. The unit displays the current speed limit for the road you're traveling on. I had the speed sensor that comes with the unit hooked up so I can get a voice alert letting me know if I am exceeding the speed limit by 3, 6, or 10 miles. The voice alert will speak over anything currently playing. It does come in handy for those speed traps.
The HD radio is pretty awesome. I checked online to verify that there were HD stations in my area. I currently have my stereo set up to change the audio to digital automatically. It can be manually set. The system does support multicast stations. I know a lot of systems claim to and don't. The radio station name, song title, and artist info display when a song is playing. There is iTunes tagging available as well when you have an iPod or iPhone connected via USB. Besides providing traffic updates, the stereo also gives the latest sports scores, local, sports, and national news, and weather.
My iPhone 3Gs paired with the stereo quickly, and downloading my phone book to the stereo took less than 3 minutes. I have only had to pair it once, and my iPhone is always connected. Pretty much everyone I have talked to using the Bluetooth tell me it sounds better than my normal phone. I have used the Bluetooth audio a few times. I don't really care for it because none of the album art displays. I did have the original iPod cable connected. Everything sounds so awesome, but video will not display with that cable. I decided to purchase the JVC cable to connect my iPod to the USB port and aux in port to display video and album art. The sound is wonderful. What's so incredible is the way my album art and artist information displays. The album art is sharp and clear. My podcast art displays splendidly as well. My playlists, videos, podcasts, and audio books all play smoothly, and the sound is so strong.
My DVD player is awesome. I did purchase the bypass cable so I could play videos while I am driving. I made a DVD disc containing 3 AVI files, and the videos look better than they dos on my iPod. I purchased a few DVDs as well that play well. I purchased an anti-glare screen protector as well. I wanted to test out how movies that are usually really dark display with the sun shining on the unit. I tested it using the movie Legion. Legion looked pretty incredible. I also made a MP3 DVD disc as well that displayed all the album art and artist info and sounded great. In addition to that, I also purchased a 16 GB SD card that I filled with music. The album art and artist info all displayed as well. The sound was incredible. I have yet to play anything on this stereo that doesn't sound incredible. I currently have the equalizer set to Natural. I set up greeting and goodbye messages. They play when I enter and exit my car. I was able to customizable my display colors to match my current interior display colors. It's no question that this stereo fulfills all my needs and wants. It's funny because one of my friends has the Ford Sync in his Fusion and was looking amazed at all my stereo does for such a good deal.

Pioneer AVIC-X910BT 5.8-Inch In-Dash Navigation A/V Receiver with DVD Playback and Bluetooth Review

Pioneer AVIC-X910BT 5.8-Inch In-Dash Navigation A/V Receiver with DVD Playback and Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought the X910BT for my car, we enjoy traveling the back roads of Arizona and the southwest. Having the Nav system installed in the car makes things very easy - no hassle connecting the various devices, cables running all over, taking it down and putting it back up when making stops, and little "suction circles" on the windshield that thieves look for. Now I only have to fuss with the radar detector. Startup time on the unit is really not a problem, my Garmin would often take several minutes to startup, the AVIC is typically ready to go in about 1 minute. The bluetooth connection takes a little longer and the unit is very sluggish until the bluetooth connects. After the bluetooth is connected, the X910BT is very responsive.
It's a very easy unit to operate after you get used to it. My previous GPS was a Garmin unit, and I really got spoiled by their features. A few things I can complain about with the X910BT:
- Voice recognition on bluetooth - just doesn't seem to understand what I'm saying, either by name or number. I usually end up selecting the contact off the screen instead of telling it who to call. After the call has started, it works great, incoming sound is loud and clear. One person told me I sounded kind of muffled on their end, but they did not have any problem understanding me.
- Route planning is a bit of a pain if you're like me and like to take the back roads. When we travel, we like to stay off the interstate as much as possible. Disabling the Highway option makes for some very long trips as it will try to route you way out of the way to avoid highways. The AVICFeeds software is ok and I have used it to generate POIs for route planning, but it is tedious and not as easy to use as Garmin's MapSource. AVICFeeds also has a 300 item limit on POIs it can import, which means getting creative if your have a file with a large number of locations, such as those found on POI-Factory.com.
- The volume knob is really small and hard to grasp. I picked up a press on knob from a guy on AVIC411.com and it works great, easy to grasp and works the way it should have from the factory.
- The maps are very limited in the speed limit data they have. One a recent trip Southern California, we were being tailed by a CHP on one of the backroads. We were doing a reasonable speed, but the AVIC did not have any speed information for the road we were on. Additionally, many of the major surface streets in the Phoenix metro area also do not have any speed limit info available. It was very rare for the Garmin to not have speed limit data available.
I have the Sirius option installed, it works great and I listen to it more often than FM or my SD Card. I used the factory installed Sirius antenna lead to connect to the X910BT with no problem. I was able to transfer my new car subscription over and they even waived the $15 transfer fee. I also found a nice flat spot under the dash to put the GPS antenna where it is hidden and out of sight. I do not have any extra objects laying on my dash or on my roof as giveaways to what I have in my car. I ran the microphone up inside the front pillar, under the roof liner and used velcro strips to attach it to the rear view mirror. It's almost completely out of sight unless you know what to look for.
I really like he X910BT and would not go back to the portable Garmin GPS, though we still have it for use in our other vehicles and when we are hanging around planning a trip. It's great having the GPS built-in, many times we are out running around and decide to go someplace, we can enter whatever we want to find right in the GPS and it tells us where it's at.

Three months ago I bought a new Nissan Altima 2011 and declined the factory audio from the dealer, saving $3000. I think that most cars come with or the dealers rip you off with the pre-installed audio video package and when plenty of choices out there these days, so why settle for less while paying more? So, I have been on the hunt for a great multimedia system for my new car, reviewing Pioneer, Kenwood and the rest of the breed of models. Finally, am happy that I made the choice for Sony XNV660BT.
GPS is excellent, TomTom provides turn by turn so well, all nearby places of interest, and surprise, warned me of everything, including the Red Light cameras placed by the city. Saved right away a couple of hundred dollars there!
The screen is awesome, crystal clear and DVD plays with vibrant colors. I bought Alpine 3 way speakers for the rear and with the Sony EQ, the sound is rich and full inside the car. BT works just fine, did sync immediately with my IPhone and Blackberry Storm without any problem, and audio streaming was effortless. Multiple audio sources with USB in the glove box make it a perfect companion for any device. The knob on the screen is cute and very handy.
The package contained night vision rear view camera and BestBuy guys installed it at the perfect place, just next to the license plate, flush and neat. The view in color is real good, either day or night. I like esp. the display of the distance of objects behind the car, that helps.
All in all, this unit beats all the competition hands down with the price, product quality and ease of use. Cost? I got this package, rear speakers and installs all done within my budget of $1000. Can't be happier. Highly recommended.
A happy customer.

Here is my review for the Jensen VM9414 in dash GPS radio. I bought this item after buying a similar one on Ebay (no-name china brand) and having the China one break twice. I would HIGHLY recommend paying the extra money to buy from an American company with much better product quality. I actually bought a warrenty from squaretrade also, because of the problems I had with the China unit. So far everything is working great with this Jensen product. If you want a very good quality single din size GPS multimedia system look no further, this is the unit for you. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Kenwood DNX5160 6.1" In-Dash Double-DIN Navigation DVD Receiver Review

Kenwood DNX5160 6.1 In-Dash Double-DIN Navigation DVD Receiver

The Kenwood is pretty nice. I had it installed in my Benz and its OMG!! the clarity of it is simply astounding. I also had a rear camera installed and when its active you would think your watching a movie in 1080... The monitor is a very nice size and since it was nicely installed it looks like it came standard. When the Navigation is on and you have music playing it really does practically mute the music to give the directions that are required. In that aspect it is much better than the previous Kenwood (the one with the flipout screen). It was definately worth the purchase. Just make sure you dont get it at Car toys directly the best price was here on amazon. I also got the steering wheel control and that works great also...Make sure you add the ipod connector. I havent figured out how to do the split screen yet....but it does show semi nav on the bottom of the screen when you have it on audio and vice versa on Nav it shows the music at the bottom.

ecoRoute

Add the KNA-NT100 for live traffic updates from NAVTEQ. NAVTEQ provides real-time traffic data for over 80 major cities in North America, meaning that if traffic is congested up ahead, the DNX7160 will automatically re-navigate the route to get you to your destination in the shortest amount of time.
Enjoy Your Favorite Media The DNX5160 is a media powerhouse, letting you play your favorite CDs and DVDs, along with several digital audio and video formats. The unit accepts DVD, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, VCD and CD-DA discs. It plays back AAC-LC, MP3 and WMA audio files; MPEG1 and MPEG2 video files; and can display JPG images. Throw your files on a disc or a USB device and enjoy them in your vehicle wherever you are.
And of course, you can still listen to the AM/FM radio. Use Auto Memory to automatically add stations with good reception to presets, or enter them manually. The DNX5160 displays FM radio text when available, traffic information, and allows you to enter station names.
Seamless Connection with iPod Video/Audio Connect an iPod using the optional KCA-iP301V cable to enable full video (for iPods with video capability) and/or audio control. You'll supply power to your iPod as well as charge it while you enjoy your music. Kenwood AV navigation systems are compatible with iPhone and iPod models, and offer video playback for iPod. Search functions include playlist, artist, album, and genre, as well as the new intuitive Direct Search.
USB Direct Control You can enjoy your favorite music, video or images from USB devices like flash drives or MP3 players. When connecting a USB device, playback starts automatically. When a battery-powered USB device like an MP3 player is connected to this unit, it also gets a charge, so it's ready to go with you when you exit the vehicle.
Input and Output In addition to the iPod and USB support, you can use the DNX5160's front auxiliary A/V input to connect external audio/video sources like video game systems.
The unit also features an A/V output for sending content to an additional screen in the vehicle.
Plenty of Power, Room to Grow The DNX5160 features an on-board 50W x 4 MOSFET amplifier, but also offers three sets of 2V preamp outputs (front/rear/subwoofer) for building your system.
System E's+ Crossover System A single IC that allows the user to select from 8 different high-pass filter crossover frequencies plus pass-through, with independent selection for front and rear outputs. This makes it easy to optimize the performance of all amps and speakers in a car audio system without needing an external electronic crossover. System E's+ also incorporates a phase switch and low-pass filter for the non-fading output. The low-pass filter has selectable cutoff frequencies of 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz and Through.
System Q EX Sound Control Five factory pre-set equalization curves (Rock, Top40, Pops, Jazz and Easy, plus a flat setting) and three speaker matching curves (OEM, 6x9, 5/4 plus a flat setting) that can be combined to give the user extreme flexibility over the sound's tonal character. The preset curves include midrange contouring, giving music more clarity and presence. System Q EX allows the user to modify the preset curves by changing the amplitude of the bass, midrange and treble compensation, and the Q of the bass and midrange compensation. The new curves can then be saved as presets for future recall
Bluetooth Ready Add the optional KCA-BT200 to enjoy hands-free phone operation or to listen to audio stored on Bluetooth devices.
HD and SAT Radio Ready The DNX5160 allows you to enjoy SIRIUS (requires CA-SR20V cable + Sirius Tuner) or XM (requires KCA-XM100V + XM Mini Tuner) radio in your vehicle. Enjoy a multitude of channels featuring music, news, talk shows, sports and traffic information with CD quality sound.
You can also add an HD Radio tuner (requires KTC-HR300). When you connect an HD Radio, Tuner features of the unit are disabled and changed to HD Radio tuner features.
Rear Camera Input The DNX5160 is ready for a rear camera, allowing you to monitor behind your vehicle as you back up.
