Only 2 minor issues: First is the buttons on the front of the player are not clear re: stop, play, ect. which in the dark while traveling is frustrating as you push in trial & error. The remote is direct line of sight only. The second is the wireless headsets. They have a button on each that scans 4 frequencies for the sound connection. It is very easy to push this button & lose the connection while simply putting the headsets on or if a child adjusts theirs without realizing it until you question why you can't hear the movie. You have to keep pushing the button til the sound comes back clear. Also there was interferace one time by a powerful radio station in the major town we were in. On the other hand, the volume control is not as easy to change, that's a good thing with kids, and can be set & left at an appropriate level.

(More customer reviews)I just installed my Pyle PLD3MU and had the chance to do some testing with it. Overall I am impressed with all of the features and functions it has. There are some quirks and the instructions are poorly translated but for the price I feel the total package was a good deal.
DVD - It plays DVDs well - the screen is rather clear for its size. I wouldn't equate it to an ipod or iphone video screen but it has more than adequate resolution for a tiny screen. Hardly jagged edges if at all. Excellent viewing angle and lots of color/tint contrast settings that I can adjust. I'm playing the DVD through an overhead mounted LCD screen and the resolution is adequate for passenger viewing but not HD... so don't expect perfection here.
CD - the sound is great but out of the box the display of the track, time, etc is so small it can hardly be read. I am not sure if the display size can be adjusted or not in CD mode (haven't tried yet).
Radio AM/FM operation - works good; it appears the pre-sets must be done automatically, I haven't found a way to set my own stations. Since there are no preset buttons I supppose you just auto-program and skip from station to station. Not quite as fast as presets but close enough. The display is much better for AM/FM radio than for CDs, it has nice big letters and selectable backgrounds. Clock only shows military time from what I can tell (i.e. 00:00 to 23:59).
Remote control works good out of the box. Button presses are reliable. To FF or RW a DVD, hold down the skip forward or skip back buttons while aiming at the screen.
When switching between sources, there is a short period of blue screen with source name listed, then the desired selection will show.
Touch screen is easy to use and seems to associate finger vs. intent rather accurately. Not too soft or squishy. Detachable face detaches and attaches akwardly but easily enough. When removed, the rectangular LED under the disc slot blinks slowly to indicate anti-theft while the car is off. I appreciate this because higher end units seem to have gotten rid of the blinking LEDs when face is detached (at least Kenwood has).
The instructions included with the unit are sparse. Some areas not translated into english very well. However, I had no problem installing because the wiring all matches the aftermarket in-dash recevier convention for colors of wires. There is a matching wiring diagram on the bottom of the unit affixed as a sticker, in case the one in the manual gets lost or is not available. A large square connector is at the end of all the wires to facilitate testing at the factory. It must be cut off to allow for installation to a vehicle specific pigtail adapter. Manual didn't explain this.
The brake wire (gray or brown) from the back of the unit needs to go to a ground (-) source when the car is not moving (example: parking brake or foot pedal brake). If your brake activates a positive lead like my Dodge pickup, you'll need to find another way to ground the unit to be able to see the video on the 3" TFT screen. Whenever this lead is connected to ground, the video will show on the detachable face screen. The video output always shows through the video out port regardless of brake wire connection or not.

DVD picture quality is perfect (I don't think you could get much better)
Motorized face is nice
Touch sensitive buttons work well

Con's:
Sound quality is average or less
Bass and treble adjustments only, no other audio fine tuning available
Touch screen was intermittent, sometimes it was good and sensitive, sometimes you had to press hard or multiple times
Very annoying buzzing/ringing sound when an auxiliary device is plugged in
Some DVD's froze/skipped (DVD's were in perfect condition)
Subtitles kept coming on while playing DVD's. Had to keep going in the menu and turning them off
Takes forever for a disc to load (either CD or DVD)
Can't do anything else while a CD is playing (ie., can't adjust audio settings while disc is playing, but can in AUX mode or am/fm)
I expect a lot from my car stereo systems and I have been doing this for 15+ years. I think this HU would be good for an entry level user or someone not as picky as me. Also I hope the other ones don't have the AUX input buzzing/ringing that mine did. Remember that one key thing your parents always told you......You get what you pay for!

(More customer reviews)This is my second multimedia head unit. I bought this a month ago in an attempt to bypass the big brands high prices. I have had no major problems out of it so far. I love that it has front sd, aux, and usb inputs. I would have made more since to combine usb and sd into one to avoid having to use an adapter cable especially since you access sd through usb in the head unit. With everything packed into the face of a single din there is no room for next/previous buttons so you either have to use the remote or touchscreen. The remote sensor is located above the volume button so it has to be held up at that level. The unit is slow switching between modes and cuts the the volume down before cuting it off and vice versa. Lastly, when the unit is switched off the repeat setting is lost. To me all of these problems are negligible. For less than $300 it is a good value for a multimedia player with everything accept Nav. Unfortunately usability and navigation can't compare to a pioneer.

I purchased this product in June. the summer heat here got in the high 90's, so the inside heat in my white pickup was pretty hot. my lanzar unit kept trying to default to DVD mode and sometimes the screen wouldn't come on untill the A/C cooled things down a bit.
The music sounds great and the DVD picture and sound is great, the radio reception could definitely be better. But the graphics of the display while in radio and aux mode are really bad. All the touch buttons work fine but look like 1980's software graphics, it's embarrassing and i found no way to do visual upgrades. There's also a usb port on the front that i never was able to use but tried, there's no clear instruction how to use it.
Ok, so now it's October and we had a cold front move through. I got in my pickup early that morning and the temperature was about 25 degrees. the display quit working permanently but everything else still works, even the touch screen. but it's hard to navigate a touch screen with no display.
All in all everything worked how expected but it doesn't do extreme temperature too well. if you think that was extreme..

* Versatile (can play numerous video and audio formats, plenty of inpus: SD card, USB, DVD/CD, Bluetooth, auxilary)
* The USB input works flawlessly, recognizing the files fairly quickly
* The LCD has 3 different tilt levels for better viewing angles, and various brightness settings
* Looks and feels well-built / solid
* Auxilary input in the front (3.5") allows for easy connecting of MP3 players / cell phones (particularly useful since the Bluetooth is worthless on this device, per below)
* Comes with a small remote
2. The negative
---------------
(1) The Bluetooth: Drops out all the time, listening to Pandora or other streaming radio through the cell phone impossible. The sound quality with the included microphone is mediocre at best. Have not tried to pair the Bluetooth with a laptop or a device with a more powerful Bluetooth signal than a cell phone, but again, I don't plan on using a laptop while driving. Hence, the Bluetooth is worthless in my opinion.
(2) For some reason, after few hours of continuous watching, the movies running off the USB start 'skipping', which can get very obnoxious. Thankfully, this only happens occasionally, and it may have something to do with overheating of components while driving in a hot summer day, even though the device has a cooling fan in the back.
(3) In addition to the $25 for the wire harness, a $15 antenna harness is required ($40 at worstbuy; I was quoted $60+ elsewhere). The radio is not HD/digital and the reception quality is noticingly worse than my stock stereo.
(4) The SD card input is very slow, taking 1-2 minutes to "load up" the list of songs on a 4GB card. The recognition is much faster with a high quality SD card with smaller capacity (i.e. 2GB Sandisk ultra/extreme).
(3) The cooling fan can be loud, and the LCD brightness is not adequate for bright, sunny days. The movies are still watchable with the screen tilted down, but much is washed out.
(6) The remote must be directly pointed at the IR sensor to work, and the layout is not very user friendly / intuitive
SUMMARY
-------
Overall, it's far from a perfect device, but comparing its price to some bigger names (which I'm guessing are no better in addressing the issues I mentioned earlier), and the amount of joy it provides on loooong cross-country drives, this system is well worth it...

(More customer reviews)I ordered this unit on Thursday Nov. 11th with two day shipping and got it the next day. Pretty impressed with that. Installing this unit was a breeze and it fit perfectly in my 97 Ram. For the price, great unit. I was impressed with the quality of the build... especially the RCA outputs having rubber coated jackets with attached rubber caps when not in use. Bluetooth works great and LCD screen is sharp and bright. USB only supports up to 249 tracks of audio and SD slot only supports 512kb. The only down side is that I didn't recieve the remote control with the unit, which has limited me on some features that can only be accessed by remote. SSL customer service is somewhat frustrating as I can never get anyone to call me back about getting the remote sent, but I'll keep trying. But overall I'm very pleased with the player. Does everything I want for a great price. Since I couldn't find any reviews on this product before I purchased it, I hope this helps someone along the way.

(More customer reviews)I've had this in my car for two months now. On the plus side, DVD playback is good - excellent screen, good on screen controls. But every new disk you put in, it defaults to closed captions being on, and there's no way on the screen to turn that off - you have to use the remote, so keep it handy.
On the minus side, the USB connector is some incredibly tiny thing and I can't figure out what cable it takes - its smaller than the mini-USB, maybe its a micro but it looks even smaller than those. I guess the IPOD is supposed to hook through there? Because there is no other port, but I've not found an IPOD to micro USB (A or B) cable for sale anywhere on line.
And don't bother with the manual - its a pile of broken English that makes no sense whatsoever.
Bluetooth worked great on this unit, for about a month, and then mysteriously stopped working. Go figure.
Volume for CD and DVD playback is pretty low, I didn't use an amp but will probably have to add one.
Oh, and one more pet peeve: the mute button is right next to the eject, and they're all the same size. So you reach for the mute, instead you get the CD or DVD ejected and the radio plays.

(More customer reviews)I like this unit. Installed this unit in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler. The screen slightly covers the climate controls, but when the screen is tilted, they can be accessed easily. The sound quality is good, all the connectors are solid, and the bluetooth works great for both calls and music. Use this with your Smartphone and stream some Pandora, it sounds great. Picture quality is good, and the touch screen is responsive for a resistive touch screen.
The only complaint is that the screen will show some artifacts when it is really cold. Get the heat goning, and it looks fine once it warms up.
Great buy for the money!

It won't fit in the Scosche FD1426B Double ISO DIN Kit for 2004-Up Ford. It's too big. I had to do serious mods on the mount's faceplate to get it in the dash.
Once in the dash, the unit was really disappointing. The menus look like they were designed in BASIC in 1988.
The touchscreen on my unit kept malfunctioning. It would randomly show that it had been touched when nothing was even near it. I thought perhaps a solid ground might help, but nothing stopped this behavior. I sent it back today.
The iPod interface was really klutzy. The MP3 player does not support album art.
Somewhere I read this screen moves out of the way when it's not in use. That is incorrect.
I also read somewhere it was detachable. It is not detachable.
The screen does swivel down so you can access the disk and SD card slots.
The picture on the box (same one in all the advertising) is very misleading.

(More customer reviews)I just installed this in my 2005 Tacoma. Installed nicely, although I did have a problem getting the plastic filler from the Scosche dash kit to fit around the deck. I had to cut out some of the plastic with a razor, but it looks nice!
Touch controls are pretty responsive. Very intuitive design GUI. I really didn't need the manual to figure anything out, and this is my first touchscreen system. The EQ settings were a little hard to find. I still don't know how to get to them without using the remote.
Sounds quality is great! This brought life into the stock speakers! I don't even have the upgraded JBL sound, and it sounds really nice. Plenty of power for stock system. The bass nearly sounds like I installed a small sub.
Bluetooth functionality works ok with my phone. In order to pair, I had to initiate from the phone. Not sure if there's a way to search for a device from the Valor. I have a Samsung A920 with Sprint, which isn't on the list that comes with the system, but everything works, except for the phonebook. Well, it will see and import some kind of list, but the names aren't there, just a "-" inplace of the letters. So it will have the right amount of dashes for the letters of a name, but no letters. So caller-id only lists the number, not the name. This is one reason I can't give it 5 stars. The firmware is flashable via cd, so maybe there will be an update for more compatibility for phones. As far as talking on it, it works great. Very clear, and the person at the other end said they can hear me well. It pauses the cd\dvd or fades out the tuner and an alert pops up on the screen of a call. There's an option to transfer the audio back to your phone if the call needs to be private.
DVD playback worked really well. I was surprised how clear the picture looked for such an inexpensive device. Especially since the gui looks kind of grainy. Not so for video playback. Navigation is easy. Tap the right or left side of the screen to go forward or back a chapter. tap the bottom middle for navigation controls. Top right for menus. Very cool. Sound quality for the movie was great, even though I don't have 5.1 surround in my truck, although the Valor can handle that.
Ipod function is nice, but lacks a bit. You can browse by artist, genre, song, album... which is pretty standard for ipod browsing. There's also a number pad that you can bring up to browse directly to an artist (if you know what number they are on your ipod). You can use this to get to the middle of your list, instead of having to scroll through hundreds of artists or songs. Browsing was a little weird because as I was scrolling, I noticed that it would switch over to the track view of the album I was currently listening to, which was a pain because I had to start back at the top of the artist list. The only other problem I found, which I guess isn't really a problem, but a feature I would like, is album artwork. In fact, the whole gui is lacking a little since there doesn't seem to be any way to personalize the screen (background, screensaver, artwork, led colors). I've only had this for a day, so I could be wrong, but at least there wasn't an easy way to do this.. that I found.
I have yet to use the SD reader or SAT function, but I will. Just a quick review for now.

Has rca outputs for everything minus subwoofer. That isn't too important unless you plan on competing in audio. I have this wired up in my envoy and really like it as do my kids. Screen is bright enough. The usb input is awesome, allowing you to play music files recorded to things like mp3 players and flash drives. Overall a great dvd player if you don't need the name brand.
