(More customer reviews)I've had this for about two weeks and here are my impressions so far:
Good:
1. Radio - nice looking interface, clock displayed at all times. FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, and AM2 preset pages.
2. SD card - remembers position of song/audio file on power down then power up. Folder structure makes sense and music, photos, and videos are parsed out by the unit. On song playback, the artist, song title, album name, and file name information scrolls across the top of the screen.
3. Has both front aux 3.5" (for A/V and straight audio) and front mini USB ports. Also, has rear USB and rear A/V input. (haven' tried them yet.)
4. Bluetooth - works very well. Connects instantly when I start the car and disconnects instantly when I turn off the car. Easy to pair a phone. Music (and all audio from my phone) automatically is sent via Bluetooth to the Lanzar unit.
5. Screen - Good resolution screen and it doesn't reflect sunlight too badly.
Bad:
1. Radio - Can't figure out how to get RDS (Radio Data Service) to work. I set RDS to "ON" but there's not station/artist/music information displayed.
2. Customer Service - sent an email and left a voice mail two weeks ago. No response yet.
3. DIVX movie playback - watched a movie, got a phone call on bluetooth, and after the call, the movie started from the beginning (not good if you've gone through quite a bit of the movie already.)
4. Clock - clock only shows up constantly in Radio mode. For all other modes, you need to push the CLK button on the remote and then the time shows briefly then will disappear.
5. On two occasions, screen has gone on the fritz. Issue was resolved by powering down then powering up the unit. This also happened on another cheaper unit (different brand, model) I had and that unit's screen eventually died completely. Keep fingers crossed that the unit works for a long time.
6. Need for remote - some functions that I would use more often, namely "RANDOM" and "CLOCK", can only be accessed via the included remote. Would have been nice to do that onscreen.
7. No midrange adjust - While you can select different EQ presets (Rock, Pop, Classic, etc.), sound enhancements (Loud, DBass), and tweak Treble and Bass, there's no midrange adjustment.
8. Screen - Haven't found a way to calibrate the touchscreen. My screen seems to register buttons a bit higher than I'd expect (ie: I need to push on the screen on a location a little higher than I thought I would have.)
Have not yet tried:
1. Whether unit will remember location of movie played on SD on power up or interrupt by phone call.
2. Playing movie DVD's.
3. Front and rear inputs (A/V and USB).
Overall, this is a good unit for the money. Not sure who the OEM manufacturer is (most likely a company in China) and I'm sure there's a matching Pyle unit out there. Comes with a 1 year warranty and supposedly there's in-country tech and customer support. I'll try to contact Lanzar again.

Has rca outputs for everything minus subwoofer. That isn't too important unless you plan on competing in audio. I have this wired up in my envoy and really like it as do my kids. Screen is bright enough. The usb input is awesome, allowing you to play music files recorded to things like mp3 players and flash drives. Overall a great dvd player if you don't need the name brand.

I almost went with the Clarion that's going for just over $300 on here but I had to have the sd slot. Speaking of which, I cant vouch for the full sized SD because I only use micro sd and the full sized adapter, but it works. It will also accept usb sdhc cards. Stuck my 8gig in and it recognized fine. Yes it plays avi movies perfectly. The screen did get stuck once on my usb drive when it was folding in. When u stick the usb in u have to make sure the rubber tab that covers the usb port on the dvd drive is moved over so it doesnt stick on top of ur thumb drive, or simply take it off. The manual is in English. I dont detect the Chinese translation the other guy did. The close button is actually a back space button and it does mention that in the manual. I understand how he may have mised that. U can push the open button to close it again or just use the remote. Its got a great picture definitely better than my last dvd player. The sound is nice, depending on ur system I suppose. Only thing that kinda bugs me is that u have to take the dvd out to mess with the video settings such as contrast and brightness. All in all i give it a 4 to 4 and a half review, but I couldn't make it a half star when I tried. Besides the other guy rated it too low at 3 stars. If u are on a budget grab this. You wont be disappointed

(More customer reviews)Since there were no reviews on this when I bought it, I wanted to wait a few days to really become familiar with the radio before I posted one. I installed this in a 2007 Nissan Frontier 5 days ago. Here are the good and the bad that I've found on this radio so far.
Bad:
* This is not so much as bad, but slightly annoying.. the clock does not display on the radio. You have to hit the clock button on the remote to view the time, and it will only display for about 5 seconds.
* When you first put a CD in, the radio checks to see if it's a DVD so it takes a few seconds before the CD will start to play.
* I had problems with the screen not coming out all the way so ended up taking the trim off the front of the radio so I could pull it out of the dash a little more. When the screen is open you can't really tell.
* If you are listening to a CD or watching a DVD and need to go back to the main screen, the disc will stop playing. It does, however, pick up where it left off when you go back to it.
* I listen to CDs a lot. In order for it to continuously play the CD over and over, you must use the remote to set it on Repeat All each time you start your vehicle.
Good:
* Sound quality is great. Much better than the factory radio.
* Bluetooth functionality is awesome. I paired my phone once and it now connects as soon as the radio comes on. Call quality is clear, and the person on the other end has no problems hearing me even though the mic is built into the radio. Disc play goes right back to where it left off after a call has ended.
* I don't use it often, but there are 18 station presets.
* The remote has an angle button that allows you to tilt the screen. When you turn the car off, and then turn it back on it remembers where the screen was.
* If you want to hook up a review camera (or just bypass the parking brake feature), it comes with a grounding wire to use on a toggle switch. I bought one from O'Reilly's for about $4.00. Connected the grounding wire to one end of the switch, and the other end is behind one of my mounting screws. Connected the parking brake wire to the other end of the switch. Works great.
* It will read NTSC and PAL formatted DVDs.
* MP3 playback can be controlled through the touch screen, or through the MP3 player itself.
* It has a micro USB slot on the front panel, but comes with a cable to allow you to hook up a USB drive up to 8GB.
All in all, for the price I paid for this radio, I am very satisfied. I was looking at some more expensive units, but decided to go with this one to save a little money. If you're in the same situation as me and don't have a lot of money to spend, I would highly recommend this unit. It has all the features I wanted, at half the price. Hope this review helps someone out!

(More customer reviews)Great looking stereo. Lots of great features as stated in the ad. I am going to cut to the chase and give my negetative feedback. The things that are NOT stated in the ad. 1. Do not loose the remote because you cannot advance your CD playing music / DVD Play / SD Card / USB Input without it. 2. Before I bought it, I had searched for the max size SD card it could hold. I could not find it so it turned out to be no bigger than 1Gb SD card. Does not support high capacity SD cards (4Gb or larger). Very poor option for this day and age. Stereo does not incorporate giros that will shutdown the DVD play while driving. Don't fall for the BOSS DVD Black box ad. Just run the brake wire to the ground and it plays fine. Good point is the stereo has audio/video out that you can run a RCA cable to the back seat to an external screen and close the stereo LCD while it plays to the backseat. 3. Stereo does not have enough treble adjustment. You may find the need to invest in a passive EQ to add if you want more high pitches. Supports plenty and almost to much bass at low settings. 4. USB out, you may and will have to buy a mini-USB to mini-USB plug if you want to ad an external hard drive or an Mini USB to USB female for thumb drive. 4. Radio illumination should have multi colors adjustment to tone down the BRIGHT blue to Meduim Blue to Soft Blue. The Bright blue is the only setting and is really bright. 5. Once again, Do not lose the remote, radio is usless without it to do any setting change. 6. Bluetooth Mic for calls is very weak. Have to almost yell to get callers to hear. Radio should have incorporated an input to install your own mic. 7. Zoom feature, if your watching a widescreen movie and you, like me do not like the black bars, can zoom in 1 ot 2 to get rid of the bars. cool feature. 8. LCD clarity isn't as good as the picture you see on the ad. Is a bit fuzzy even when I just watched Avatar. A high resolution movie. 9. Don't lose the remote. 10. Go back and read the features in the ad and read this again and make your decision. Overall installation, very easy even for a beginner. All lead clearly marked. Scaloe of 1 to 10. I give this radio a 4. Check Ebay in a couple weeks and you may find my Boss radio on it for a good price. Have a great Navy day!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this to replace an old Radio in my 95 Jeep GC. Space is very limited in the radio compartment. The BOSS BV9997BI MultiMedia player comes with a wad of wires, hard wired into the radio back that also has two large wiring connector cubes. To fit all this in, plus the radio wiring adapter and IPOD cable, entensive cutting had to be done to the Jeep radio area. The radio comes with a cable for an IPOD that must be stuck into the back of the radio, rather than having an outlet on the face of the radio. If you will be installing a backup camera, purchase it and do it during the initial BOSS install, or you will have to remove the radio again. The 7" display is very good, but if you retract it and attempt to use the display on the faceplate, it is extremely dim to the extent it is totally inadequate viewing in the daylight. It can also be a function that the lettering and background are both light colors and the text is very thin. It is easy to read at night, in the dark, and actually could use a dimmer, but has none.
The common on/off as part of the volume switch does not work with the BOSS. Rather, you have to press and hold a SOURCE button for that function. Attempting to insert a CD or DVD does not automatically select the function to play it. You must first select the media by pressing and releasing the SOURCE button. Original CDs with painted-on labels work fine, but I inserted some CDs with press-on labels and had difficulty getting them to eject. There appears to be too close a tolerance in the mechanism to accomodate labeled CDs without problems. (Letting the BOSS cool down allowed me to extract the CD's.) Adjusting the channel balance could be made easier by adding a joystick-like button to the faceplate. Manually adjusting the balance with the touchscreen is a challenge and definitely not for use while on the go. Faceplate adjusting is even worse. The detachable front panel only detatches the buttons in the lower faceplate. It is held on by two small, fragile looking pieces of plastic that I hope don't break off.
Not all functions are on the faceplate. Some can only be accessed using the remote control. So don't misplace or forget to take the remote. The instruction manual is extremely poor, missing explanations for highlighted, numbered functions and having clear explanations. BOSS really should employ someone with native English skills to write and edit their manuals.
Although the concept of incorporating all the latest bells and whistles into a unit is great, BOSS falls short in making the package easy and working well. I will pursue purchasing an extra remote and frontpanel, in case they break or are lost. I cannot recommend this to others. I also wonder if BOSS's other flip-out players don't suffer from the same problems, since most seem to be design and documentation problems.
