Nokia 5610 Xpress Music Red Quadband Unlocked Phone
This is my first phone with enough memory for my own personal music. I've had it now for three months and had only one minor issue and that was a software problem that could have resulted from a conflict with something I downloaded not guaranteed for this phone (Bluetooth related issue). Still under warranty, I simply tripped in to the nearest Nokia shop and it was fixed in no time with a software update for free.
Expandable memory allows you to horde up to 4g of A/V files or attach the headphone/antenna and tune in your favorite FM! Not crazy about the headphones, but you can plug your preferred into the jack. Has all the basics, calendar, calculator, etc that I was looking for. Also came pre-installed with Opera and it's not too shabby a browser considering the screen size. Buttons are smaller than what I'm used to but I've mostly used clam-shells up until now.
So far, I've been quite satisfied and recommend this versatile phone/entertainment package.
UPDATE: 02/22/2009 Ten months later and still very satisfied with this excellent phone! Still very happy about this purchase and it still doesn't show the usual wear-n-tear attributes liked rubbed off keypad! Love it!

Phone Labs DNTA100 Dock-N-Talk Cell Phone Docking Station Review

Phone Labs DNTA100 Dock-N-Talk Cell Phone Docking Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First the cautions:
1)It feels a bit cheaply made. I got the Bluetooth adapter and the connection is a bit flimsy and easy to knock loose. Better plan on putting this someplace where it can't be bumped. I put mine in the phone system closet.
2)It can't go inline with your normal phone system, it must use a separate phone or a separate line into your phone system. If you have a PBX or a multi-line phones with one inbound line available you are in great shape, just use L2 (Line 2) on the dock-N-talk along with a splitter. The manual explains this well.
All that aside, I love this device ! I can now come home, set my Bluetooth phone on the table where I come in and it automatically connects to the dock and all cell phone calls now ring on my home phone system. No more missed calls because I didn't hear the cell phone from another part of the house and no broken bones as I try to run madly to the cell phone to answer it in time. In the extreme you could even dump your land lines and go 100% cell but still have the benefits of you home phones (just be sure you have good cell signal). It is nice to see progress being made in integrating all the electronics doodads in our lives to make things better rather than worse.
The installation was easy and if you are familiar with pairing your Bluetooth device and enabling the hands free function you should be able to get this up and running in just a few minutes.
Note: There are a lot of cell phone cables and a Bluetooth adapter available for this device but I can't seem to find them listed at Amazon. Try going to the manufacturer's site (phonelabs.com) for these accessories.

HTC S710 Vox Unlocked Smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.0, 2 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black/Silver) Review

HTC S710 Vox Unlocked Smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.0, 2 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black/Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the S710 a few weeks ago and I have been very happy with it so far. I had previously been using a Sony Ericsson W810i which was a great phone for personal use and as an MP3 player, but I needed a smartphone for work. I didn't want something as large as a Blackberry and wanted to avoid a touchscreen and stylus. The S710 was the perfect compromise.
I've never used a smartphone or Windows Mobile before so I can't say if WM6 is any improvement. I was surprised to find while editing my contacts that there is no copy and paste function. I was able to find an add on application but it seems a rather strange thing not to include in a smartphone. The S710 comes with HTC's homescreen and green color scheme which is a color that most closely resembles vomit. This can be removed using a debranding app. On such a beautiful looking device it's a shame that HTC chose such a nauseating interface.
And this is a beautiful phone. The all chrome face is a bit much for my taste, but isn't as prone to fingerprints as I expected and it contrasts nicely with the matte keys and the flat black. The sides and back are rubberized plastic which feels soft but durable in your hand. The QVGA screen is clear and bright even in sunlight.
The phone feels solid and rugged and is surprisingly heavy for it's size. But considering all that's packed into so small a space and the long battery life it's an extra weight I can handle. The slide out keyboard doesn't lock when closed and has a slight wiggle. It hasn't opened accidentally but it's a strange contrast to an otherwise sturdy phone. The keys on the keyboard are small but nicely spaced and give good tactile response. But if you have large primate hands, this is not the phone for you.
The earpiece is loud, which is great for talking on NYC streets, but has noticeable distortion. It bothered me at first since my old Sony Ericsson was so clear but I have gotten used to it now. The vibrate mode is rather weak, and I don't always feel it vibrate especially when I am walking.
The lack of 3G doesn't bother me since I mainly use the data connection for email which EDGE is fine for. The smaller sized screen isn't that great for viewing web pages anyway. WiFi works well and connects to my home access point faster than my laptop. AT&T made a surprising effort at helping me get it set up for data but ultimately I had to find the configuration posted in a forum and enter it manually.
PROS:
Keypad, QWERTY keyboard, smartphone in a small package; I haven't found any other phone like it.
CONS:
Keyboard wiggle
Sound distortion

The HTC S710 smartphone is the most compact smartphone with semi auto-sliding full keyboard, and it's one of the first phones to offer the power of the Windows Mobile 6 Standard operating system (for non-touchscreen phones). Practical and versatile, the HTC S710 is ideal for today's business traveler on the go. The sliding QWERTY keyboard will help you type emails quickly and stay on top of your most important documents, and the screen automatically adjusts from portrait to landscape orientation. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity for both communication headsets and stereo headphones, a 2-megapixel camera, and a bright 2.4-inch LCD screen. It communicates over GSM/GPRS networks and offers data service via the EDGE network as well as via Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) networks. This unlocked phone does not come with service or a SIM card.
This new platform provides genuine mobile Office Outlook experience, greater control of Outlook Mobile Calendar, and an improved Internet Explorer Mobile browsing experience. It also offers greater interoperability with Exchange Server 2007, providing you with improved e-mail management (such as Fetch Mail and Set Flags), Out-of-Office assistant, and HTML e-mail viewing capabilities (see more on Windows Mobile 6 below).
The S710's 2.4-inch QVGA TFT LCD screen has a white LED backlighting, 240 x 320-pixel resolution, and 65,000 colors. It comes with a built-in memory of 128 MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM, and it's expandable via MicroSD memory cards (which currently offer up to a 2 GB capacity). Other features include voice dial and command, loudspeaker for hands-free operation, an external antenna connector, and an 11-pin USB 2.0 port that doubles as an audio jack. And don't forget the S710's Wi-Fi capability, which makes high-speed data access a breeze via an 802.11g hotspot.
The Windows Media Player is compatible with a wide variety of digital audio formats (AMR/AAC/WAV/WMA/MP3). It also offers Bluetooth stereo audio support, enabling you to enjoy your music without any wires. The 2-megapixel digital camera captures still images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels--great for 8 x 10-inch prints, and other photo features include video capture, multi-shot stills, self-timer, and white balance controls.
Vital Statistics The HTC S710 weighs 4.94 ounces and measures 4 x 1.97 x 0.73 inches. Its 1050 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 7 hours of talk time, and up to 175 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.
Powered by Windows Mobile 6 Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 updates the Windows Mobile 5 platform with a number of handy features that make searching through email, editing Microsoft Office documents, and staying on top of your most important communications even easier. Emails can now be viewed in their original rich HTML format and now offer the ability to visit embedded links. It also includes Windows Live for Windows Mobile, which provides a full set of Windows Live services, such as the Windows Live Messenger IM application, which now enables you to chat with more than one person at one time or send a file.
With Windows Mobile 6, your phone will finally be able to emulate the power and features of your PC's Microsoft Office suite. You'll be able to neatly view, navigate and edit Word documents and Excel spreadsheets in their original formatting--without affecting tables, images or text--as well as view PowerPoint presentations.
Microsoft Office Word Mobile features include spell-check, Find and Replace commands, bulleted lists, text formatting, and support for tables for the first time.
With Excel Mobile, youÕre not just confined to editing charts: with the new Chart Wizard you can create charts quickly and easily.
PowerPoint Mobile allows you to view the full presentation, rehearse timings, check the order and any live links you may have in your presentation. You can then email comments back to the team or communicate via MSN Messenger for an immediate response.
After creating or editing a Word document or Excel spreadsheet, you can synchronize it with your PC and it will automatically be converted to the PC version.

All Windows Mobile 6 powered devices include Direct Push Technology for up-to-date e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization of Outlook calendars, tasks and contacts through Microsoft Exchange Server. It also offers a set of important device security and management features that include the capability to remotely wipe all data from a device should it be lost or stolen, helping ensure that confidential information remains that way.

Wilson Electronics 801241 MobilePro Multiple-User Cell Phone Signal Booster for Car/Home Review

Wilson Electronics 801241 MobilePro Multiple-User Cell Phone Signal Booster for Car/Home
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the version with the 12-inch antenna to use in my home office, and got it a couple days ago. The package says it installs in a minute, and that's basically true. It took me 15 minutes because I read the instructions and had to think about where to put it, but if I did it again, I could probably actually take the items out of the package and get it in place and operating in a minute.
It works very well. My provider is AT&T, which I'm stuck with because I have an iPhone. My wife gets a great Verizon signal, but my AT&T signal ranged from no service to two bars at any given time at any place in my house. A few seconds after installing the Wilson device that changed, and now I get from 2 bars to 5 bars within my home office.
I looked at another device that claims to provide a whole-house improved signal, and perhaps it does. The problem for me is that installation seemed complicated due to the need for very wide separation between the antenna that receives the outside cell signal and the amplifier that retransmits the stronger signal, which included getting wiring through wall or ceilings etc. In the case of the Wilson device, all you need do is keep the two apart by 8 feet or so, which was better for me.
I'm not a techy but it seems that the tradeoff is that the separation requirements are lower with this Wilson device, but the rebroadcasted signal is less powerful, so the signal improvement range is not whole-house, but more room sized. Fortunately, that works fine for me.
I have three windows together set up like a bay window of sorts. I used the suction cups to mount the antenna in the upper right of that set of windows. I then ran the antenaa wire over the top of the windows to the amplifier hanging on the left. I didn't even affix the amplifier to the wall, it just hangs from the antenna cord. It's behind the curtain so it's not seen.
I placed the antenna, reached up and ran the wire over the sill, connected the amplifier to the end of the wire and plugged it in. A second later the light went green, meaning that the separation distance is OK, and my phone went from 1 bar to 4. Easy.
The packaging seems to emphasize use in cars and trucks, so I'm guessing that this is mostly used by truckers and commuters who drive through a lot of weak signal areas. But it also gives directions for installing in a home or office, which is what I did, and I can report that it works well for that purpose, at least in my situation.

If you experience dropped calls and poor cell phone signal quality in your car, home, or office, then the Wilson MobilePro Cell Phone Signal Booster Kit is the solution. Increasing your cell phone's power by more than 12 times, the Wilson MobilePro significantly improves the performance of your cellular and data devices by increasing the power output of your cell phone signal where you are experiencing a weak signal. Designed for portability and mobility, the MobilePro includes several power adapters, and is easily moved from your vehicle to your home, hotel, airport, or office, creating an improved cellular signal.
Setting up the MobilePro takes just minutes. View larger. It's All About PowerThe primary cause of dropped calls is low signal output power from the cell phone to the cell tower, which limits the phone's ability to communicate with the tower. A typical cell phone provides merely one-fifth of a watt of output power. To address this problem, the amplifier and the included magnet mount antenna work together to increase the phone's output power by more than 12 times over using just the phone alone.
Enjoy Premium Reception and Fewer Dropped CallsLiving or working in an area with limited cell phone coverage, which is caused by natural and man-made obstructions or by living out of range from a cell phone tower, you know how frustrating weak reception can be. By increasing the power output of your cell phone signal, the Wilson MobilePro helps eliminate most of the signal loss caused by these obstructions. It's important to note that the strongest signal is obtained when the MobilePro is within two feet of your cell phone, laptop, or data card. If you sit at a distance greater than two feet, simply set your phone next to the MobilePro booster and use a Bluetooth headset.
The MobilePro comes with several power options, including a vehicle cigarette lighter adapter, a USB power cable, and a standard five-volt AC/DC adapter. The variety of power options ensures that you'll have a boosted signal whether you're driving in your car, traveling with your laptop, or working at your desk. Included with the booster kit is a convenient carrying case that fits neatly inside a briefcase, handbag, or suitcase.
Once installed, the MobilePro can simultaneously support multiple cell phones and data cards. You'll experience fewer dropped calls, clearer call quality, and improved data rates--even with 3G technologies.
Installing the MobileProInstallation is quick and easy; everything you need for installation in a building or car is included in the kit.
In a BuildingTo install, simply attach the suction-cup window bracket to the inside of the window and place the magnet mount antenna on the bracket. Connect the magnet mount antenna to the amplifier. Power the amplifier by using the included USB power cord and plugging it into a computer's USB port, or by using the standard AC adapter. Place the MobilePro within 12 inches of your phone, laptop, or data card to receive an improved signal.
In a CarTo install, simply attach the magnet mount antenna to the roof of your vehicle. Connect the cable of the magnet mount antenna to the amplifier. Mount the amplifier to the dash or other area using the supplied mounting hardware. Power the amplifier using the cigarette lighter adapter, or by plugging the USB cord into your laptop computer. Now you're ready to enjoy a stronger cell phone signal typically within two feet of the amplifier.
Compatible with Most Cell Phone Models and ProvidersThe Wilson MobilePro is compatible with all US and Canadian cellular providers, excluding iDEN, Nextel, and MIKE. The kit supports CDMA, TDMA, GSM, and AMPS cell phone technologies, as well as data protocols such as GPRS, 1xRTT, HSDPA, EVDO, and EDGE.

The use of radio distribution equipment that enhances, extends or amplifies a wireless signal may be prohibited without the consent of the wireless carrier upon whose network such equipment will be used. You should consult with your carrier before purchasing such equipment to use with that carrier's service.

This was my first smartphone. The apps of the android system are great, but if you download many of them your system is likely to crash a lot. The touchscreen may be cool at first, but sometimes simple tasks such as dialing or saving a number may become annoying, especially if the system gets slower and slower due to apps. The battery life is not too good. I have to recharge the phone daily even if I didn't make a long phone call. I am satisfied with the camera, which produces very good photos in my opinion. What makes this phone great is its size, look and the camera. Although the size makes this phone pretty handy, the touchscreen and the system may not be very convenient especially for basic usage such as phone calls and sms. All in all, I still like it but I think I should have bought the version with integrated keypad.

I love this phone!, now I can leave my heavy laptop at home and chat or skype my friends from my near coffee shop. Is a shame that MSN Mobile Messenger or Skype for mobiles hasn't added video support yet because if you're in a non 3G phone network (as in my case) the front camera is completely useless. You'll need a external memory card if you plan to use it as a MP3 player, the sound is great even thru the speaker!

The design of the TyTN is clean and uncluttered, with just a few buttons for mail, Internet Explorer, and contextual menus. Meanwhile, call answer and end buttons surround a five-way toggle that allows you to navigate and control the Windows Mobile interface. As mentioned, a full QWERTY keyboard cleverly slides out from underneath the screen. This allows you to hold the device horizontally, and the screen is automatically placed in landscape mode when you're using the keyboard. No worries; the TyTN is compatible with the latest generation of UMTS/HSDPA 3G data networks. And lastly, robust SMS and MMS functionality is built into the Windows Mobile interface.
One of the most important tools bundled with the TyTN is Microsoft ActiveSync, which allows you to quickly synchronize your device's tasks, calendars, email, and contacts with your desktop. You also get Exchange ActiveSync, an application that lets you synchronize data with an Exchange server. Syncing can be done via USB, or wirelessly via Bluetooth or infrared.

You can also keep your tunes loaded on a memory card and listen to your music wherever you roam.
As mentioned, the TyTN can take 2.0 megapixel pictures, and while the camera is great for taking stills, it can also function as a camcorder, allowing you to capture video to the unit's memory. An integrated media application organizes your captured photos and videos. For gamers, the phone supports Java-based and Windows Mobile games.

Warning! I am NOT a techie. I am just your average everyday technology-using non-...uhm, techie. So what you'll get here is just a superficial review based on my observations. Ask me what certain programs are for, your guess would be as good as mine. :) So here goes...
Exterior - Don't judge a book by its cover for sure! The Samsung Omnia has a very simplified, sleek look. Just three buttons on the front: accept call, end call, and for navigation.
The Touch Screen - The screen is adequate. The touch screen sensitivity is fine, although sometimes you need to tap two or three times. But then again, being the phone is new I suddenly find myself with a very light touch.
The Keypad - Portrait-oriented, the keys are narrower even for my small fingers. But I typed 'the quick brown fox...' sentence with only 3 errors. Landscape-oriented, the keys are much much better.
Battery Life - This is the only area with which I had a big problem. I researched a lot about this phone but somehow I missed out on this one important factor. It turns out this phone's battery can only last an average of 5.8 hours. I charged it one whole day and the next day I had to recharge it twice again, and after 3 hours it died on me. This is NOT good. So I looked up ways of saving battery life and hit on this - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsMobile/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3979662&SiteID=65. The topic is about HTC Diamond, but the advice works on Omnia. Right now I'm up to 75% charged after 1.5 hours. Believe me, I'd rather have that than charging it for a full day. I'm still researching for other tips on saving power. :)
Wi-fi - Since this is an unlocked international phone, I don't get the advantage of 3G network here in the US. But with the battery life issue, that's okay with me to just use the internet while I'm at home using wi-fi. This might seem very discouraging to some, so you can always avail of the Omnia from Verizon. It can access their 3G network.
Text Messaging - I'm a text fanatic. I give Omnia 100%! The only thing I don't know how to work out yet (or this might not even be possible) is how to make the messages in my inbox just reflect the sender's name in the front-view of the folder instead of a snippet of the message. I don't know, I just feel uncomfortable with seeing snippets of messages at a glance. :)
Camera - Really really nice!!! 5mp with auto-focus, flash, smile-focus, image editing, and a lot more. :D
Video - Pretty decent for a phone.
Synching the Phone to PC - Really haven't figured this out yet. I popped in the CD and followed the steps but I think I missed something since after synching it, my phone alerted me its memory was low. I checked my media storage--I had downloaded almost every file in my computer from pictures to music to videos! That's a looot of memory! I had to hard-reset my phone to erase everything. Good thing I only had it for 1 day at that time. :)
That's it for now. Will be updating if I have any more info to share. :)

I have had my unlocked HTC Desire for a little over two weeks. At first, I was thrilled with it because it has such a nice display and Android 2.1 runs so smoothly. In the last couple of days, though, it has developed an annoying issue and I think all potential buyers should be warned. Occasionally when placing a call, the screen will go blank and there is no way to end the call or get the display back. HTC delivered at least my Desire with this flaw - and there are some hits on Google about this. All you have to do is Google "HTC Desire screen goes blank" to see what I mean. Apparently, the proximity sensor used by HTC does not work correctly all of the time. What it should do is turn off the screen and disable the buttons when you place the phone to your ear. The faulty sensor does not turn the screen back on and enable the buttons when you pull the phone away from your ear. I am hoping the Android 2.2 update will fix this problem, otherwise I am going to return my phone before the 30-day return period expires.
** Edited to add **
Two things have eliminated this problem today - and I do not know which helped the most. First, Android 2.2 was offered on the Desire today and I updated it. Second, one internet post indicated that a clear scratch protector may be causing the problem. I removed the scratch protector from the screen and the problem has gone away. I am not comfortable using it with no scratch protector - but I am much happier with the phone.
