Scosche Universal Bluetooth Handsfree and Streaming Audio Car Kit Review

Sadly, my BT1200 arrived dead upon arrival. The unit was getting power, but it failed to turn on. Several attempts to contact tech support at Scosche proved useless. I was promised a return authorization number, if I contacted them by email. When I did, I did not get a response nor the RAN. I followed up, and was still ignored. My advice, do not buy this, or any other Scosche product.

Sony Active Style Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Headset / Headphones Review

Sony Active Style Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Headset / Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned one for about a year now and I use it with an iPhone 3G (firmware 3.1.1). I wouldn't use it as your primary headset for phone conversions though. The microphone doesn't do a very good job of picking up your voice and I've been told I sound like I'm in another room. You would think for the amount you pay (approx. $129 when I bought it) that all functions are at least decent.
However, if you HATE the feel of wires all over you when you exercise, this might be for you. I never go to the gym without it and I love the fact that no wires are "slapping" you or get tangled in an exercise machine. I haven't had any problems with it so far (knock on wood), but I read that people who sweat a lot may encounter problems due to the sweat penetrating the seals. Now, I myself sweat A LOT and I haven't had this problem yet. I'm a little paranoid about it so after every workout I shake it to ensure no residual liquid gets a chance to tamper with the internal circuits (if you know what I mean).
I also like the fact that it doesn't pinch your ears like most headphones. The band that runs between the two speakers is fairly flexible but stiff enough to help keep it in place. I've seen some comments where some don't like that. You'll have to try them on yourself because I'm sure everyone has there own idea of comfort. Another plus with the flexible band is that people with larger than normal heads may find this headset a nice fit, I know I do. I hope this was helpful and Good luck!

This was my first smartphone. The apps of the android system are great, but if you download many of them your system is likely to crash a lot. The touchscreen may be cool at first, but sometimes simple tasks such as dialing or saving a number may become annoying, especially if the system gets slower and slower due to apps. The battery life is not too good. I have to recharge the phone daily even if I didn't make a long phone call. I am satisfied with the camera, which produces very good photos in my opinion. What makes this phone great is its size, look and the camera. Although the size makes this phone pretty handy, the touchscreen and the system may not be very convenient especially for basic usage such as phone calls and sms. All in all, I still like it but I think I should have bought the version with integrated keypad.

Sony MEXBT5700U CD Receiver Bluetooth Hands-Free and Audio Streaming Capability (Black) Review

Sony MEXBT5700U CD Receiver Bluetooth Hands-Free and Audio Streaming Capability (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this product from a cheaper source, but use these reviews to determine which head unit to buy. The MEX-BT5700U had all the features I was looking for at a decent price. I have a '92 Toyota Pickup with a manual transmission, so Bluetooth calling was my top priority (safety) as my state hasn't implemented handsfree calling laws yet. My calls at highway speed (windows up) were clear and my caller only noticed a slight hum/noise and reported I sounded very clear. This was using the external mic provided on default settings for the gain and noise cancelling.
Note: if an external mic is provided with ANY head unit(this one comes with an external mic)USE IT, DO NOT bother with a head unit that you cannot add or use an external mic....proper mic placement is key. I placed my mic on the steering column in front of my gauges.
Pairing was simple, and iPod control is built in so you DO NOT need the separate iPod controller Sony sells for the other units. I also purchased the HD-Radio unit, but haven't installed it yet.
The controls, and layout are decent, but some functions take multiple pushes of a single button to reach, or spin the dial....this can be a bit tough while driving. I figure after some use I will figure out what buttons do what and how many times to push to get to a function. In my opinion, no head unit is completely intuitive but I believe this unit provides a reasonable logic to it, but could most certainly be improved like every other head unit on the market.
I recommend this unit to anyone looking for hands free calling, and iPod control. For the iPod control, all you need is your iPod USB cable, plug it in and the unit recognizes it and takes control. The unit can control the iPod, but nothing beats holding the iPod in your hand and selecting music the way you are used too. Looking at the screen you will still see the Artist Name and Song Title displayed even when in 'passenger mode'. Again, I haven't read a single review of any unit that has 'excellent' iPod controls.
Four stars because, no head unit is perfect, and Sony could probably spend more effort in making the controls more intuitive.

Motorola XT701 Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 5 MP Camera, Android OS, Wi-Fi, gps navigation, Bluetooth and Touchscreen--International Version with No Warranty (Black) Review

Motorola XT701 Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 5 MP Camera, Android OS, Wi-Fi, gps navigation, Bluetooth and Touchscreen--International Version with No Warranty (Black)
Average Reviews:

The Purchase:
After alot of research, I decided to purchase this Motorola XT701 from Amazon last year (Amazon has a great return policy). Phone looked good when it arrived. There are different versions of this phone, the one I received was the Chinese/HK version. Unlike other 'new' phones as told in other Chinese Motorola forums, the menus didn't start in Chinese (like other Chinese/HK XT701s) - More on this later. After a quick charge, I popped the AT&T SIM card in and poof it worked. It'll work on AT&T & Tmobile. It'll work on AT&T's 3G network. It won't work on Tmobile's 3G/4G network. I did have some problems sending MMS. After re-entering the AT&T settings a couple of times it finally started to work.
Suggestions:
Add $100+ for a SquareTrade ADH Warranty. YOU WILL NEED IT. You'll need to update the phone (to Android 2.1) as soon as you get it. The built in keyboard is $&^+ (it's a English/Chinese style keyboard) - you'll want to download another one from the Android store. I'd suggest tossing the supplied MicroSD card. It's slow. Buy another one thats at least a Class 6 or better.
What's great:
1. Cool design.
2. 3G speed
3. Thin & lite
4. Apps
5. Camera + a REAL flash
6. Easy to root
What isn't great:
1. Keyboard
2. Screen - taps are unresponsive at times
2. Internal memory / App storage limit
3. Physical camera button - hard to get to
4. Phone freezes / lags - it can't keep up with ALL the bells and whistles (live wallpaper, etc)
5. No custom ROMs (its not a popular phone)
6. Getting lied to - first by Motorola, then (possibly) by the seller.
Lie #1 - When I bought the phone, Motorola stated it planned on updating the phone to Android 2.2. After saying yes then no then maybe then yes to Europe, but not China, and now no to all xt701s. If I knew this before I bought it, I wouldn't have made the purchase. Android 2.2 would solve ALOT of nagging issues with the phone. First, Android 2.2 is faster than Android 2.1. Much faster. An update would get rid of some of the lag (due to the slower the slower processor) when taking pictures, videos, running live wallpaper, etc. Second, the ability to store Apps onto the SD card. With Android 2.1, I hit the App memory limit within 2 weeks of owning the phone. Third, better keyboard and multi-touch responses. The list goes on.
Don't buy this phone if you're a power user. It will disappoint you.
Lie #2 - I treat my phones very good. For this phone, I bought an SGP XT720 case for it (one of the very best phone cases). About a month ago, the phone started to go crazy acting like someone/something was tapping the screen, making selections, dialing numbers etc. For awhile, I thought someone hacked the phone. Factory resets didn't solve the problem. This craziness evolved into a part of the screen being dead to touch. A vertical strip about 3/8" (1cm) wide located on the right side of the screen was dead. The phone was barley usable. I know its not covered in the US, but I took chance and brought it a certified Motorola repair center who told me - yes, the screen was dead, no its not covered by Motorola US and by the way, the phone looks like its been opened before (tool marks) and the screen in there doesn't have a Motorola P/N on it - hinting that it was some generic screen replacement. Which means, I didn't get the "gorilla glass" screen that Motorola had advertised. It was made known to me that this "new" phone could be a Chinese/HK refurbished phone being sold as "new" to unsuspecting US customers. It apparently happens all the time with International "No Warranty" phones. Going back to my first paragraph about the language being switched from Chinese to English when I purchased it doesn't help me believe that the phone was new and untouched between the factory and my door. Alas, I can't "prove" that it's a refurb except from what the tech told me (and the gut reaction to how greedy people can be). I really hope its a refurb because I would hope (as a Motorola fan) this isn't the way Motorola puts an expensive phone like the XT701 together. Apparently, there are many many instances of this screen issue happening to the Milestone/Droid community. As the Moto tech described, the Droid and the xt701 screen use the same technology. So this could be a defect (or the result of a bad batch of screens, or a real design flaw). It doesn't help that Motorola dropped support for this line like a hot potato late last year. When I bought it in September, the phone wasn't out in the market for that long. Two months later and Motorola started to drop planned upgrades, accessories, patches, etc.
Don't buy this phone if you're looking for a sturdy product. Do buy this phone if you'll plan on spending another $200-300 on extended warranties, cases, and a backup phone for when it randomly dies.

Conclusion:
While when I bought this phone, I considered it a 5 star product. Looking back, I see that I put up with the little issues knowing that they were going to be fixed in the next software & firmware updates. Now that I know these things won't be fixed (no updates whatsoever), it's not worth the money. Seriously. If you're going to drop $350 ~ 400 for a phone, you'd expect for it to be refined OR at least have a way to get issues resolved. No support from Motorola for software/ firmware/ warranty makes this a bad gamble. There isn't a third party community for it. So there isn't much indirect, community support either. The warning from the tech about the International refurb phones sold to North Americans as "new" isn't surprising. It's happened to me with "new" Motorola phones from eBay in the past, but I really wasn't expecting it from Amazon.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. If I were in your shoes, I'd look elsewhere.

I should have spent more time on forums before splurging over $700 on the GSM Milestone.
1] A smartphone is, first and foremost, a phone. And this is where Milestone fails miserably. While you can hear callers fine, folks on the other end have a tough time hearing you. Words go missing, speech is garbled, goes up and down in volume... At first, I though the network was to blame, but after trawling Motorola's support forums, it seems to be a common problem. People on their second and even third handsets are still experiencing horrible call quality. I switched SIM cards and tried the phone in different locations, but the problem persists.
2] The camera is useless because of the infamous 28.5 days bug. Have been regularly checking for firmware updates, but nothing so far.
3] Note that the GSM version comes with 8GB microsd, not 16GB like the Verizon Droid. I was not aware of this difference.
4] The unit I got was from the German market. There is no Google Voice Search on it! Apparently the UK version has it, but there seems to be no way to switch ROMs.
5] The phone cannot be rooted currently. While it may not matter to most people, I would love to switch over to other ROMs, especially for Voice Search.
6] No divx/ xvid support. My previous phone was the Omnia HD and the extensive file format support is something I miss on the Milestone.
7] After two weeks of struggling with the keyboard, I gave up. Maybe my fingers are too fat, and your experience might be much better.
Having said all this, the phone is amazing device to hold. Sturdy, industrial build quality, great screen, the slider takes 'manly force' to open up, Android has lot of potential and pretty close to iPhone OS in fluid use (yes, have used an iPhone for over two years)... The Market is good enough and there are lot of free quality software available.
So I would recommend you buy this phone, but with a caveat. Make sure you can return it back easily, if you run into similar problems.
As for me, the Milestone is tucked away in a drawer, waiting for firmware updates that will make it usable again.
I have moved on to the HTC HD2 and am loving that huge screen. Yes, it is Winmo, but fingers crossed - someday hackers will figure out how to put Android on it. And then I should be in phone nirvana.
Bests!

If you are looking for a non-apple smartphone, this is it.
Primary function, being a phone, is outstanding. The phone has a good reception and you are able to have clear conversations even in noisy environments like games or construction sites.
Additionally, it is full of features with out of the box google integration. The screen is amazing and very responsive. Gps, camera and wi-fi works as expected. The full qwerty slider keyboard works great, however keys are too flat. Form factor is adequate. The phone is slim and not so heavy.
Despite of the bugs mentioned in several forums, I haven't found any. The piece I got came already with the Android 2.1 update and works straightforward.
It deserve a "well done" for the engineers at Motorola.
