HTC Magic Android Google 2 Unlocked SmartPhone--International Version with NoU.S. Warranty (Black) Review

HTC Magic Android Google 2 Unlocked SmartPhone--International Version with NoU.S. Warranty (Black)

I'm an Apple guy. Always have been. I'm writing this on a MacBook Pro connected to an AirPort. I have an iPod, an Apple coffee mug, t-shirts from the various Macworld Expos I've attended, and even an Apple sticker on my car. So when it came time for me to join the 21st century and get my first "smart" phone, naturally I chose ... an HTC myTouch for T-Mobile.
Come again?
Okay, I've had iPhone envy for years now and have been spending my recent lunch hours playing with the new iPhone 3GS at the Apple Store in the mall connected to my office. I really like it, but I've been a happy T-Mobile customer for years now, since they were VoiceStream, and was reluctant to change carriers, especially with all the bad press about AT&T's coverage. (Apparently, there are so many iPhone users using their iPhones so much that the system can't handle the traffic, resulting in slow or no 3G connections and poor or non-existent call quality.) So the other day I stopped in at my local Radio Shack and found that they had the myTouch. None of them were "live," so the saleswoman let me pop my sim card into a brand new black one and play with it for a while. After she told me I could return the phone, without penalty, within 30 days if I didn't like it, I figured, why not? So I left the store with that new black myTouch in my pocket.
First impressions? It's a beautiful little phone. The screen is bright and colorful and I get a good connection to the internet and my e-mail. Calls are clear and strong, as always, and there are lots of free apps from the Android Market. The myTouch works seamlessly with my .Mac account, as well as my Gmail account, and everything is automatically synched between the phone and my Google calendar and contacts. I was a little concerned about no iTunes access, but there's a great free program called Double Twist that allows me to easily copy all of my content -- songs, photos, video, and more -- from my computer to the phone, so it's like having iTunes on the phone. Overall, it's a lot like an iPhone, only the T-Mobile service is cheaper than AT&T, and from all the complaints I've heard and read about, it's also more reliable.
Other reviewers have complained about the speed of e-mail, but my e-mails -- Gmail and my .Mac mail -- are very fast. I have the phone set to check every 5 minutes and have no lag at all. As for the keyboard, it's not that bad, but you can download the free HTC keyboard or buy the Better Keyboard or TouchPal, all of which work better -- problem solved.
So, at the end of 30 days, what am I going to do? The Apple-loving side of me would still like an iPhone, but there really isn't any need for one, given that the myTouch does just about everything the iPhone does, and it does it for less, and more reliably to boot. The iPhone undoubtedly has more available apps, but the Android Market already has thousands, most of which I couldn't care less about. Many more are sure to come. As much of an Apple fan as I am, I'm having a hard time justifying the extra cost of the AT&T service, particularly given all of the problems they're having. (I have lots of friends with iPhones and they all love it, but concede that it drops calls all the time, and that the call quality isn't that great. Call me old-fashioned, but I think a phone -- "smart" or not -- should be able to handle calls first and foremost.) And because the myTouch is still new, there aren't that many floating around yet, whereas the iPhone is now ubiquitous; even my 10 year old daughter's friend has one!
So, while I've only had it a couple weeks, I'm very impressed with the myTouch and think I'll be keeping it.

Pros- The phone looks really nice than it appears in this picture and it also comes in a really attractive box.
Speakers are not loud but it's clear & if you use earphones you will love it.
Camera is fantastic.

Cons- It attracts fingerprints that I don't like.
Wi-fi should not be your main use if you buy this phone.I tried to play Youtube video but it didn't work.

It seems that sellers in general dont give enough information about their products. I believe there is alot more that could be said about this product in technical info. Information that could be included would be, "ALL" plug ports, "ALL" wireless (wifi, bluetooth, etc.), maximum card size (16, 32 SD/microSD), but the sellers seem to be lazy. Vincent...

Voyager - Quad Band Touchscreen Dual-SIM WiFi Media Cellphone Review

Voyager - Quad Band Touchscreen Dual-SIM WiFi Media Cellphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At first I thought, no reviews, hmmm but then the phone sounded good and it looked good so I bought it. Well, it is exactly as you see and read it and it is worth it. I wanted to wait until I used it for over a month before reviewing. I have had no surprises. It takes getting used to if you are not a touch-screen person. I thought that it did not come with a stylus but it does. The secret is to pull out the antenna (all the way) and voila. Once you calibrate the pen, fingertips (big or small) or pen works like a charm. The phone responds well.
I love the size of the screen and the style of the phone. Very classy. It is easy to navigate and easy to unlock the screen. The dual SIM is why I really wanted a new phone and I have had absolutely no problems with it. Wi-fi is easy to set up. I set up my hidden network within seconds. The TV works very well. I was able to pick up channels quite clearly and in colour on vacation. The camera is not as clear as I thought it would be but I am not complaining. Texting is a breeze with the qwerty keyboard. The calculator is so straight-forward. More importantly it is easy to get to your contacts from both SIMs from any App view. Moving between the SIMs is like using a normal SIM phone.
My only problem is that shipping took long. They did not offer any other choices, only 17-19 bus. days. Maybe I was too anxious to get it. In any case, customer feedback was good and quite helpful. All in all, I am quite happy with my phone as I continue to explore its many features. I basically wanted a good touch screen, dual SIM phone with Wi-fi and I got lots, lots more.

Where do I start? From the moment that I laid my eyes on Sony Ericsson's C702, I was taken! The C702 has everything and more than any of the other most sophisticated cell phones can have! It has GPS and A-GPS capabilities, a great 3.2 MP picture camera, video-recording camera, lighting for both camera modes, GPS-based navigator, Bluetooth capabilities, micro memory card slot, GSM and 3G capabilities, water resistant shell, anti-slip back cover, e-mail, MMS, text, digital radio, MP3 player, and so much more! One of the features that I really like is the ability to connect to the Internet from a computer through the C702 and its included Sony Ericsson PC Suite software. I couldn't have wished for a better cell phone! Don't believe everything bad that people say about this cell phone. Judge for yourself, if you dare!

Motorola CLIQ DEXT MB220 Unlocked Phone with Android, 5MP Camera, 3G, Wifi and QWERTY Keyboard - Unlocked Phone - US Warranty - Black Review

Like a fool getting into his first real relationship i invested in this mobile phone too quickly without really knowing anything i was about to get involved in.
design:
the build quality and general aesthetics are among the better designs Motorola Mobile Division has come up with. aside from the nearly useless D-pad, this is a solid slider phone with a surprisingly elegant keyboard.
performance:
as a mid-range Android device the Cliq comes with basic specs and offers lots of features for social networking via Motorola's proprietary skin MotoBlur. however, the longer i had the phone the more i noticed its short falls. this could have been a decent and mildly competitive device had Motorola offered updates as the Android OS base continued to evolve. over time the Cliq suffered from massive lag, regular random reboots, features becoming non-responsive, apps crashing and a plethora of other things that make this an unbearable mistake.
overall:
owning this for close to a year i've recently jumped to the Nexus S to find what a true Android experience is like. granted every OEM developing Android phones puts on their own skin, but from my experience MotoBlur is the worst of them. its heavy and clunky like an old truck that just needs to be put down.
there's no price that this device is worth (even for free). unless you want to experience the frustration of an orphaned device and video record yourself raging on it, it would be in best interest for you to turn away and go elsewhere for a device with competitive specs and good OEM support.

Archos 5 16GB Internet Tablet with Android (Black) Review

Archos 5 16GB Internet Tablet with Android (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I previously owned the 605 WiFi and the Vision 3. This is a huge step up. PROS: great sound, excellent video playback, very responsive screen (especially for a resistive touch), G-Sensor and Accelerometer works great, Browser is awesome, games run great, etc. Now I updated to the newest firmware only to find that youtube has not been fixed. But here's the thing...I used a hack to install marketplace and now Youtube works great. Strange?
CONS: proprietary plugs, too many accessories that you have to buy to get full experience, charge time is kind of extreme, does not come with marketplace. it has their own version. gets lots of fingerprints!
They almost messed this one up. they are so close i can taste it. Every year they release a amazing play on paper...but when you use it...you find that certain features may or may not work. or work half a**. This is very close. In october they will be releasing ever better players that include so much more including built in camera :-). It's not bad...i still prefer it over the iPod touch. especially since it will sync with nearly any player. not just itunes. works with Winamp and Windows Media player. Another cool thing is that if you have album art...it will import it. very cool. There are two versions of the Archos 5. one with android and one without. It was definitely a good idea to go WITH android. It's almost impossible to screw up android. Having owned the iPod Touch, iPhone, Archos 605, and more....I can honestly say...this one isn't bad. especially for the price. Wish it had more space though. 16gb isn't enough for me. but hey...it comes with the SD slot too so you can add up to 32gb. awesome!

I bought the international version of this phone and have had it for about a month. It is small so it is easy to carry and store, and it also comes with loads of features that allows me carry one device when I travel, like the great sounding speakers,FM radio, the Memo option. It allows for the easy download of music from my computer, being small and portable it is also great for when I go runing. Needless to say, I am, therefore, using my Ipod less and less. My only and a big dissappointment is that the instructions manual is in Frech and other languages, but not in English. It comes with a CD which contains an soft version of the manual in English, but I am on the go, and don't have the time to sort throught files to find information I need, nor do I think that this is should be the only option. So this to me is indeed a major dissappointment.

i recently purchase this phone i have the red one. the phone was for the asian market and it had chinese manual and the language on the phone but it does come with a disk english manual to tell you how to change the language on the phone. it has a great camera and still playing with the apps on this phone.
It works well with my att sim card and my t-mobile sim card.
this phones does't come with the android network it uses brew mobile platform which i have never heard before and im not sure if i should try to download android apps or brew apps on this phone, dont want to ruin the phone. brew doesn't have a lot of apps to chose from if anybody know where i can download apps for this phone i would like to know. the phone works okay makes calls just fine.
This phone has the htc sense texting can get complicated for me because the has english letters and the chinese so it gets tricky and i cannot remove the chinese letters from the keyboard. has qwerty and landscape keyboard. it is a good phone for the price.

I got this home today and couldn't put it down!!!
I really needed a new phone because my last LG phone was really bad. I wanted something really different that not only worked better but is cool and flashy like a Japanese phone. I couldn't get a Japanese phone because unfortunatly you can't get them in the US (plus they wouldn't work). I did my research and found this one which works with my Sim card(GSM). It's a Korean phone but luckily has an English language function. It's everything I wanted in a phone: thin, flashy, has a cell phone strap hook, picks up FM radio, and etc. I didn't have to buy a new charger because my last LG phone charger works just fine. I haven't tested out the camera or video functions that much but for a 3 MP camera it has a really nice picture. I absolutly love the lighting and cover functions. When the phone rings, depending on the setting a little dotted animated picture shows up on the cover. Plus the phone comes with 25 ringtones and other sounds. The music is real Pop/cute oriented;some in Korean but I really don't mind them at all. Personally I don't use the internet functions because I have my laptop, but as a regular cell phone to call out or take pictures or video it works great!!

Android 2.1 Tablet PC X220 flytouch2 with GPS and Webcam Review

Android 2.1 Tablet PC X220 flytouch2 with GPS and Webcam
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this tablet, my first Android device, and I was kinda wondering what I would receive...
So far I'm really pleased with this thing!
Being a Palm and iPod Touch user and early adopter of what people call "smart phones", I wasn't sure if I wanted a large-format device. I have friends who are pushing their Apple tablets at me and I'm an iMac user myself... but I just wasn't sure if I needed (read that as wanted) a tablet.
I bought this on "speculation" to see if I could have a little fun and perhaps learn something new.
I'm having the fun part right away and I can see that some learnin' is headed my way here with the Android operating system this tablet uses. Not hard learning, but with the "open-ness" of Android I expect to be finding new stuff to do for a good while.
Out of the box I received a durable-feeling device with a nice large screen. It turned-on first try and responded to the battery charger just like the (little) owner's manual predicted. There is a great deal more going on with this thing than the little booklet speaks of, but the manual is complete enough for anyone to realize all but the nuts and bolts of Android... I believe the manual was not intended to tech Android to a user but to simply expose the buyer to the capabilities of the tablet. The manual is a translation, but a good one with pictures and diagrams. Easy to read and understand.
I haven't done much with it yet, but I have connected to the net using my WPA-2 WiFi "Apple Airport Extreme" and had no problem with the setup. It reminded me of getting a Nintendo DSi connected... it was that easy. I am using MAC address filtering and that posed no problem after putting the tablet's MAC address in my list.
The Localization settings were easy with the only "snag" as yet being the temperature display in the Home screen is in Centigrade and I can't (as yet) figure out how to switch to Fahrenheit. It even "found" my little home town to use as the target city :)
The only other thing I haven't figured yet is if the operating system is consuming part of the 2 gig of memory, leaving only 1 gig free or if the device shipped with only 1 gig of memory.
I think this problem is my lack of familiarity with Android :)
I will attempt to provide a better review as time allows, but for now I'm happy.
One final note, the device is called a "MID" in the Owner's Manual and the following information appears in the "About Device" screen on the device it's self;
Model Number: deb
Firmwear Version: 2.1-update1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 hzhao@emma #1
Build Number: deb-r2.1.1170
There is another tablet listed on Amazon called a "MID" but it does not seem to have a camera or a GPS receiver. This unit's GPS "antenna" is external and I think the little hocky-puck is both an antenna and receiver combined.
Update: (12/26/2010)
Liking the tablet! The hardware is working great, no problems at all, no glitches or silly business from the device or the Android "build" as is installed.
The only things I'm watching are;
- The "Home" button on the front is not indexed exactly right under the front cover. Not a problem but there was a moment where it was trying to get stuck.
- One of the tiny little "plugs" covering the cabinet screws has fallen out. This is no problem at all as there will come a day when I want to take those screws out myself and those plugs are going away on that day. As a side note, this tablet survived a drop from my desk top to the plastic carpet protector under the desk without a glitch.
- The Android "build" has a little trouble when rotating the screen. Two issues so far 1.) When you use Google's Star application, the Horizon is oriented incorrectly and does not correct even when you try the adjustments for screen rotation in Android or in Google's application. Weirdly, the names of planets and stars continue to rotate (to the wrong angle) even if you turn-off all the rotation controls. 2.) When you use the device in the "Landscape" orientation there is a very useful "Back" button in the screen in the top right... when you rotate to "Portrait" orientation that button goes away and you have to use the hardware buttons. Not really a big deal but the behavior of the on-screen "Back" button and the hardware button are not exactly the same in all applications.
- About keyboards, mice, and memory devices. USB supports all these but does not recognize anything else. I am using a Bluetooth "dongle" and my Apple "Magic Mouse" but my HID Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth GPS are not recognized. So far I have not found an application that can pair any Bluetooth devices that are not physically incorporated in the device (that's none so far). The Bluetooth dongle I have states it is a wired equivalent of a mouse and keyboard.. but that HID keyboard is not working.
That's all for now. It's worth the $230 to me so far but I'm new at this so I might not have the expectations a more seasoned Android user might have.
Update: (1/7/2011)
The people I got my tablet from are fantastic! I used email to talk to them about getting a registration number for the Android release on my tablet and they were really warm and responsive. It was like they actually liked the product!
I no longer see them listed as sellers but I will look for them the next time I want something from China.
(Beijing Ning Rong Technology Development Co. Ltd)
I Learned some stuff.
- There are a lot of "Widgets" and "Gadgets" that fail when used on a tablet... perhaps it's just this one, but I suspect the large screen is giving them trouble.
- You can use an Apple Magic Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard (Retail Packaging) by first pairing them on your desktop machine and then moving the Bluetooth "dongle" to the Flytouch. I use an IOGear USB 2.1 Bluetooth Micro Adapter GBU421
- The "Escape" key on the keyboard functions like the "Back" button on the screen.
- F4 seems to first, put the device into "sleep" then shortly it will re-boot.
- F1 acts like the "Menu" button.
Still have not found any applications that provide USB support for other than keyboard, mouse, and memory. I hope the developers of Android see the tablet as a "future" for Android and start providing full support for USB attached peripherals.
The display is really nice indoors. Outdoors it's washed-out but usable.
Price jump. What's this about?!?
I'm a little disturbed that this tablet has jumped in price. I kinda was thinking about a second one for a friend but at this rate, she's probably going to get something else. Too bad, we like this one. :)
Update: (01/19/2011) - Sorry if this is turning into a "blog"...
An update to the Android OS has come out, not a big change like version 2.2 or anything, but it allowed me to see what and how upgrades look like and are done.
It did not go so well. I had to go onto the Internet and find the proper file myself and load it again using a micro SD card. After that everything was back to "normal". I had to find and re-load all the applications I had loaded and every setting had to be re-entered. I later found out that you can back-up these things and save yourself some time. Considering the changes to the Android OS, I will wait for a major update before going with another minor one again... too much hassle for not so much gain.
The tablet is still a winner! I have it running for several hours a day and am even now watching a DVD TV show (converted using "Handbrake" for the Mac). Playback is smooth at 720 x 400 and around 1100 bits per second (m-peg4). See, this thing is making me learn about stuff like Android OS and video data rates :)
Still can't set the Weather widget to Fahrenheit, but otherwise I'm still happy with the purchase.

This phone is the biggest load of crap I was ever overcharged for. Every time I touch this peice of garbage it infuriates me. It's SEVERELY underpowered for the Android OS. I've never seen a more lothargic phone. Just about everything you try to do with it takes so long to load you give up half the time and just end up mashing the home key a million times to try and get it to stop. It's like trying to get a 90 year old man to do you a favor. It get's to it in it's own sweet time.
One of the other reviewers was talking about how it will randomly shut down and reboot in hte middle of whatever your doing. Yep. Confirmed. In fact, my phone will randomly reboot in my pocket when I'm not even trying to use it. And when it reboots, you'd better start a movie. Because it takes a full 2 to 3 minutes to boot up and figure out where it is. I know that doesn't sound like a long time, but when you're in a hurry to make a call it's the longest 3 minutes of your life.
And how's this for being born under a bad sign? I can no longer get into my contact list. Anytime I try to open it, it fails and dumps me back on the main screen. The only way I can call someone from my contact list is to look through my recent calls and hope they're on there.
Besides that, the contact list is permanently affixed to motoblur which is a big pain in the butt. My contact list has every person from my facebook/myspace/yahoo list on it. And if I want to get someone off of it, I litterally have to remove them from my facebook/myspace/yahoo list online. I can't just block specific users that I want on facebook, but not on my phone. I weep for those freind collectors that have 900 freinds on their list.
I'm horribly, horribly dissatisfied with this peice of junk. I highly reccomend that EVERYONE avoid it like the plague. I absolutely cannot wait to get anything else.

T-Mobile Garminfone Android Phone (T-Mobile) Review

T-Mobile Garminfone Android Phone (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Garminfone is an excellent GPS unit and a "good" smart phone in one. If you are looking for a high end android device, this might not be the best phone for you because it runs version 1.6 of Android. If you need both a GPS and smart phone this is worth a serious look.
Pros:
Corporate email works well
There is plenty of storage space for downloading apps
If you happen to be out of cell signal range the GPS will continue to work
Comes with car charger and vehicle mount
The screen size is just right @ 3.5"
Cons:
Cannot customize the home screen other than the sidebar
Does not have 3.5mm headphone jack
