The best thing I like about this cellphone is its loudness: built-in speaker is loud and speakerphone is loud. This helps a lot if you're in a noisy restraunt (reason I dumped my old cellphone).
Pluses:
1. Well designed music player UI and dedicated buttons.
2. Loud speaker for playing music.
3. Standard 1/8" mini jack for headphones.
4. Solid buttons, crisp display
5. Very small, stylish
Minuses:
1. Short battery life -- must charge almost every night.
2. Camera is fair in quality.
3. No 3G

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Unlocked Phone with Touchscreen--U.S. Version with Warranty (White) Review

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Unlocked Phone with Touchscreen--U.S. Version with Warranty (White)
Average Reviews:

Pros:
The unit is dead simple to get started with. Took my simcard from my ATT locked phone and dropped it in, and I was ready to go within a minute of opening the box.
The "Symbian S60v5" OS is quite advanced and has features that the iPhone doesn't have.
- multitasking: you can stream Last.FM and chat on IM (try using Pandora and AOL on the iPhone)
- theme/skinning without hacking the phone
- tethering without jailbreaking the phone
- Flash for web content (not full Flash 10, so no Hulu, but YouTube works).
- You can get apps from other places than the App Store (more like the Mac than the iPhone). Just download the .sisx file, and it installs.
Coming from a locked AT&T phone, the biggest benefit is the lack of crapware - no hardware shortcuts to "MeDiAnEt" and when you click on music, it doesn't prompt you to buy ringtones from AT&T. I'll never go back to carrier-subsidized phones.
Cons:
Battery is small - it'll last a full day of moderately heavy use (calls, email, web, music), but expect to plug it in every night.
Nokia's Ovi Store is not nearly as advanced as Apple's iTunes Store yet.
- Ovi Music is not available in the US
- Apps are rarely found in the App Store, because most developers would rather you download it from them directly (like Mac, not iPhone).
The phone update process is not as intuitive as the iPhone process - Small updates can be done from the device itself, but larger updates need a Windows PC (I used VMWare Fusion on my Mac)
The included micro-USB cord is quite short.
Up to you:
The device doesn't have battery-hungry things like 3G or GPS. If these are things that you need, look at the bigger brother - the 5800.

Nokia 5610 Xpress Music Red Quadband Unlocked Phone
This is my first phone with enough memory for my own personal music. I've had it now for three months and had only one minor issue and that was a software problem that could have resulted from a conflict with something I downloaded not guaranteed for this phone (Bluetooth related issue). Still under warranty, I simply tripped in to the nearest Nokia shop and it was fixed in no time with a software update for free.
Expandable memory allows you to horde up to 4g of A/V files or attach the headphone/antenna and tune in your favorite FM! Not crazy about the headphones, but you can plug your preferred into the jack. Has all the basics, calendar, calculator, etc that I was looking for. Also came pre-installed with Opera and it's not too shabby a browser considering the screen size. Buttons are smaller than what I'm used to but I've mostly used clam-shells up until now.
So far, I've been quite satisfied and recommend this versatile phone/entertainment package.
UPDATE: 02/22/2009 Ten months later and still very satisfied with this excellent phone! Still very happy about this purchase and it still doesn't show the usual wear-n-tear attributes liked rubbed off keypad! Love it!

Motorola MOTOZINE ZN5 Unlocked Phone with 5 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, MP3 Player, and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Graphite Gray)
Average Reviews:

The phone part's great. Motorola's been making communications equipment for years, and their experience shows. The Crystal Talk feature work like a charm. I could be heard talking while standing under an elevated train rattling overhead. By comparison, try an iPhone, whose phone portion is on par with phones I owned in the '80s.
And the Kodak camera works amazingly well. The Night Mode gets surprisingly good results at very low light levels. And in daylight, the pictures are on par with what I've gotten from small digital cameras. Very impressed with that as well.
The device itself is quite nice. Well put together, totally solid construction. Nice materials. A pleasure to handle.
The downside is that the software is a pain. Different parts of the device seem to have been put together by different developers. And navigating around between different parts of the phone is baffling. But slowly, I'm getting used to it and I've gotten the Bluetooth to my computer (to download photos - great feature) to work after lots of trial and error.
Overall, the two key parts of this phone are excellent. It's just the overall integration that's not up to standard. Net result: I'm pleased.

I purchased this product from amazon about 5 months ago. It shipped promptly and arrived in perfect condition. I give this phone a 4 for the features. It's great being able to upload any of my favorite songs to use as ring tones and I love that it came with both head phones, the micro SD AND the appropriate usb hook up. The camera is also amazing, After uploading the photos you can hardly tell that they were taken with a cell phone.
My only gripe (and reason for giving a 4 not a 5) is the craftsman ship. Internally the phone is sturdy. It has a great speaker awesome sound quality and user friendly software. It's jut the outside that can't stand wear and tear (especially if you tend to drop things). I've dropped it twice and on the second time it fell face down and the front slide bar cracked (and partially fell off). That feature of the phone still works but the aesthetic is damaged. I had a feeling that it would happen. Protruding parts on the front of phones always end up damaged sooner or later, I wish the company had considered that.

Samsung Gravity 2 T469 Phone, Berry Mauve (T-Mobile) Review

Samsung Gravity 2 T469 Phone, Berry Mauve (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After looking at phones for almost two months, i picked up this phone for the following reasons:
- It is a voice-first phone, so there are no manditory data plans or add-ons
- It is the smartest non "smart" phone that you can get. it has fast nice 3g internet with functional browser, but you don't have to buy a smartphone internet plan to use it. I pay 10 bucks a month for unlimited internet that gets me any full html website just great.
- the slideout keyboard doesn't make the phone too fat and is perfect for writing emails. (emails are included in the text plan with this phone, you don't have to subscribe separately like with smart phones.
- good call clarity, though you do need to have the volume just right.
- expandable memory and great quality camera to fill it up.
the cons:
- as with all samsung phones, you can't change the menu buttons for quick access.
I would recommend this phone if you are looking for something inexpensive that can do most simple browsing and emailing functions as well as a smart phone but want something slim and easy.

T-Mobile Services
High-speed data connectivity via T-Mobile's 3G network: In addition to its quad-band GSM connectivity, this phone is also compatible with T-Mobile's UMTS/HSDPA 3G network, which operates on the 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum. This phone is designed to automatically connect to the best available network (3G or GSM/GPRS/EDGE) to provide faster data speeds when accessing the Web or downloading content from the T-Mobile Web2go content portal. T-Mobile is currently rolling out its 3G network, and it expects by year's end that its high-speed data network will be available in those cities where a majority of its subscribers currently use data services.
In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the via T-Mobile's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"). This high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and e-mail on the go.
While this phone is optimized for use with T-Mobile's high-speed 3G network, many of its functions will also work well on the moderate-speed EDGE network. If you plan to access the Internet extensively on your phone, 3G network coverage may serve you best.
Activities that work well on EDGE or 3G networks:
Email, instant messaging, and texting
Downloading ringtones, CallerTunes, wallpaper, light data files
Sending photographs via e-mail or picture messaging
Activities that work best on a 3G network:
Viewing content-heavy websites (lots of images or videos playing)
Viewing YouTube and other video files (they will play on EDGE, but require loading time)
Uploading large files (photos, videos, presentations) to sharing websites
Downloading large files from an e-mail or a website

T-Mobile's web2go intuitive web browsing service makes it easy to view and navigate the web from your phone with features including Yahoo! oneSearch, a customizable home page and a simplified shopping and download experience. You can create a personalized home page for easy, one-click access to your favorite Web sites.

The Garminfone is an excellent GPS unit and a "good" smart phone in one. If you are looking for a high end android device, this might not be the best phone for you because it runs version 1.6 of Android. If you need both a GPS and smart phone this is worth a serious look.
Pros:
Corporate email works well
There is plenty of storage space for downloading apps
If you happen to be out of cell signal range the GPS will continue to work
Comes with car charger and vehicle mount
The screen size is just right @ 3.5"
Cons:
Cannot customize the home screen other than the sidebar
Does not have 3.5mm headphone jack

You can read a dozen reviews about this phone so I won't repeat them. The hardware and fit-and-finish are top notch. The Android OS v.1.5 does NOT impress. 1.6 has been out for months and 2.0 has been out for a few weeks now.
*** Samsung has not stated whether they will update the phone at all or to what Android version. ***
The Samsung PC software absolutely stinks. It does not recognize the phone, it cannot flash the phone, it's basically useless. The forums are full of people wondering why Samsung would ship software like this.
It hurts to see Samsung rolling out phones with exciting specs and then not supporting them. HTC is updating all their prior phones to Android 2.0, and most importantly they have told their customers what they are doing. Time for Samsung to step up. I would not buy this phone as-is with Android 1.5. It will probably be decent with 1.6 and great with 2.0.

Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 Smartphone Unlocked Import GSM Review

Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 Smartphone Unlocked Import GSM
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
**Word of caution - if you buy this from Amazon, it may come in the "French" edition, which means the phone will start up in French and the manual won't be in English. Don't worry - you can change the settings once you translate the startup screens and you can use the phone completely in U.S. English**
Let me just start out by saying I'm a very picky guy when it comes to electronics. I research things until I am absolutely sure I want them and then I wait for the "dust" to settle on anything new just as a double check. While I'm not a huge fan of Windows in general - this phone was definitely worth the wait - it ROCKS!
Build quality: solid and smooth. The backing has a matte finish, so your hands won't slip when holding the device (unlike the iPhone 3G/3GS). The weight is just right - not too heavy and not light/cheap feeling. The battery/SIM card compartment door on the back is metal yet thin. It's probably not the thinnest device in the world, but if you want something thinner you're better off with a plastic device. All buttons (including the awesome "real" push Windows home button) click confidently.
Software/OS: First of all, keep in mind that this device (as of 1/24/11) does not have multitasking built in. I'm assuming this will be a software update later on. All finger-swipe actions so far are VERY smooth - no stuttering as found in my previous Android device. The tiles respond extremely quickly and, with the Super AMOLED screen, look like water when they do move. The only issue I have found so far is that if you follow a link to the Windows Marketplace from anywhere except through the "official" app, the app freezes and you have to restart the phone. This issue has been documented and will hopefully be fixed during the next update. Wireless connectivity was so easy I almost didn't realize that it had connected - it was automatic to my home network after asking for the password. Overall, Windows Phone software/OS is a DREAM compared to Android/iOS.
Battery life: Compared to almost every phone I've ever owned and considering the awesome amount of work I put this phone through, the battery life is amazing. Again, it doesn't multitask so I'm sure batter life will suffer when that updates comes through. I was able to make it through 1 1/2 days of occasional use before it even complained of a low battery life (even with wifi on the entire time). I would give it at least 10 hours on occasional use - 24 hours on standby.
Bottom line: Let's put it this way - if you don't like tech stuff and you're just looking for a phone to play cute games on and make calls, go with an iPhone. If you loved taking things apart and putting them back together again as a kid (and you especially enjoyed Transformers), then Android phones are for you. If you want a phone that will treat you like an adult without being overly complicated and you aren't completely reliant on "cutsey" games, get this Windows Phone. Splurge and pay the extra cost to get it untethered to a network. You won't get the annoying startup screens from T-Mobile, AT&T, etc. and you don't have to start a new contract.
Absolutely a 5-star device.

First of all, I've been using android since 1.5 (HTC Magic) til 2.2 (HTC Desire). Yes, I had Magic and Desire. Main issue i had with Android is terrible battery life! With magic, battery usually would last for 2 days tops, and thats with few calls, a bit of web browsing, and maybe 2 hrs of music. Than i Decided to go and buy HTC Desire. Terrible decision! I had to charge it every second day,and thats with 2-3 calls a day(duration 2-3 mins per call) and a bit of web browsing. If u decide to listen to music or radio, battery would drain in hours!!! Thats what annoyed me the most, i had to carry around car charger and charge the phone, i got to stage where i was scared to make phone call or battery would die on me.And thats not just me, everyone who had Desire experienced same. Dont get me wrong, Android is really good system, but it's biggest downside is battery life. After I sold my Desire, i decided to get this Nokia, since i liked curvy design, 8Mpix camera, and HD Video recording. After i got it, i decided to do battery test, and WOW! I was blown away! After 2 days, i made some calls, more than on desire, received some calls, listened to music for about half hour, battery is still full! I couldn't believe it! Not even a line has discharged!!! And thats two days!!! By now I'd be charging Desire! Camera is really good, takes really nice pics, but HD Video recording is AWESOME! What Nokia needs to do is upgrade OVI Store, since it looks kinda ugly. Considering phone, get it, you wont be disappointed! 5 stars for this phone! It's a keeper :D

Dell Streak 7 4G Android Tablet (T-Mobile) Review

Dell Streak 7 4G Android Tablet (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this tablet after playing with it in a T-mobile store..i also tried the Samsung Galaxy Tab too while i was there. This thing blows the Tab out the water as far as performance goes..but the Tab has better graphics due to it's 1024 by 600 display. But for me it was no brainer to get the Streak.I was going to get the Motorola Xoom but it's priced way too high & seeing as my Streak 7 pretty much has nearly the same specs as the Xoom i just can't see wasting nearly $900 for the Xoom.
The battery life on the Streak 7 is pretty much my only complaint. But i bought a car charger for it however.Other than that this thing is perfect. The screen responds incredibly well.Games like Asphalt 5 look amazing on it!!! The 4g speeds are incredible.I love being able to go anywhere & use this thing.I even got rid of my Archos 70 internet tablet after buying this item.Plus my brand new Ipod touch(4th gen) pretty much collects dust now lol.Apple won't let you view flash based websites..The Streak 7 has no problem loading the full desktop version of Cnn & Espn websites.Plus this tablet will get Honeycomb 3.0 when it comes out thanks to the Tegra 2 dual core processor..There is no tablet that can compete with this one at the moment. :)

I've had my Legend for a week now and can still barely put it down! The integration between apps is amazing. I like the selection of apps from the android market - and the HTC Sense UI makes the whole thing really quite intuitive. This is my first touch-screen phone (I've always had physical keyboard'd phones previously). This is easy to type on, the predictive-text is great.
The cons: With heavy usage, my battery will last me about 12 hrs max. With regular usage then 2 days is typical. The AMOLED screen is awesome, but fairly hard to see outside. I didn't think it would matter that much-- but the place it impacts me is if I'm taking pictures (need to see the screen as the viewfinder). If I place my hand over it for shade, it's generally enough, but still makes me wish I could see it better.
The speed of the device is great. I'm actively recommending it to any of my friends who are in the market right now.l
