Sony Ericsson C902i Cyber-shot Unlocked Cell Phone with 5 MP Camera, Media Player, International 3G, M2 Memory Slot--U.S. Version with No Warranty (Swift Black) Review

I've been using this phone for about a month now on T-Mobile (upgraded from a RAZR) without any issues. Just stick the SIM card in and you're good to go. When I shopped around for a phone, I had a few requirements: candy-bar body, good camera, and mostly no hassle features for everything else. I don't text message very much, nor do I use my phone as an MP3 player.
Firstly, the phone's look and feel are superb. It feels solid in the hand and unnoticeable in the pocket. As mentioned in the specs, it is one of the thinnest phones out there, and the construction feels solid, with metal back plate. The sliding mechanism that shields the camera's lens feel a bit wobbly and flimsy, but has so far not deteriorated with heavy use. The screen is a little small, but bright and crisp, with perfect visibility under direct sunlight. Directional pad, as well as call/cancel, and context buttons are all where you expect them to be and provide just the right amount of tactile feedback when pressed. Be aware that this is a SMALL phone, and you will have trouble hitting these small buttons if you have large fingers. That said, the keypad itself leaves much to be desired. The keys themselves are arrayed at an angle, making it somewhat confusing as to which button you're going to end up pressing. Your eyes tell you one thing, but your fingers tell you another. The only that helps seems to be either dialing slowly and carefully or simply trying to ignore your fingers telling you what button it's over.
The highlight of this phone is undoubtedly the 5.0 MP camera. The lens is at the top of the camera and is shielded by a sliding bar at the top that is honestly quite slick. When you pull it out to activate camera mode, a blue led strip lights up breifly and fades away. This serves no practical function, but is cool nonetheless. Once in camera mode, touch-sensitive buttons light up along either side of the screen. Taking pictures is best done turning the camera horizontally and using the dedicated camera trigger on the top (depress half way to focus and fully to snap). Since this is still a camera phone, shutter speed and shot-to-shot still leave much to be desired. However, it is FAR better than the iphone. The digital viewfinder is somewhat misleading as it will freeze the frame when you depress the trigger. However, this frame will be replaced by a preview of the actual picture taken (which will often be more clear). As a cyber-shot camera, it has the standard features such as face-detection, auto-focus, burst mode, etc. The flash is weak at times, but adequete (just be careful because it will drain your battery). Typical shot-to-shot time is long on this phone, but I find that most of the time, pictures are clear on the first shot. If you are really paranoid, the burst-mode will take 9 pictures in the span of a second, and you can pick which ones you want to keep or discard. Under low light conditions, pictures will turn out grainy unless you use flash. Pictures taken with this camera will not rival dedicated point-and-shoot digital cameras, but it is leaps and bounds better than other cameraphones I've used. As a point of reference, I enjoy taking pictures wherever I go, and this is the only device I bring. Considering how light it is, and the fact that it's a phone, it is honestly a perfect combo device for casual photographers. The phone is also capable of capturing 30 fps video, which I have not really had the opportunity to play around with. The initial samples I took turned out grainy, but maintained a consistent framerate.
The phone comes with standard sony-ericsson software loaded onto the ~160 MB of internal memory. The software is quite intuitive and mimics the media browsing experience on the PSP and Playstation. The PC suite includes the abiltiy to sync music, outlook contacts and calendars, and other files. While a bit bloated, the PC suite does its job. A few issues I should mention: the phone does not seem to be able to sync media files via bluetooth. This is really a shame because being able to sync pictures wirelessly is a very handy feature. The memory is expandable using sony's proprietary memory stick technology (the micro variant), which comes in sizes up to 8GB. The phone has a proprietary connection jack that is used to charge, sync, and adapt to regular headphones. The basic headphones included with the phone are low quality and become uncomfortable to wear after only a few minutes. If you intend to use this device as an MP3 player, definately have a better set of headphones handy. As I mentioned before, the keypad is terrible, making this phone unuseable for extended texting and/or browsing.
Call quality is great, and I notice no difference in reception from my RAZR. Speakerphone volume is loud and the device works seamlessly with my hands free bluetooth headset. The included PC Suite also provides settings for using the phone as an internet connection for your bluetooth enabled laptop.
Bottom line, this phone will turn heads with its sexy design. If are you looking for a very slick and stylish candy-bar phone with a great built-in camera, look no further. If you lean toward emphasizing picture quality from your phone, you may want to wait for the next generation of 8.0 MP phones such as the C905. Just do not expect to text or browse effectively.

Sony Ericsson W610i in Black/Orange GSM Unlocked Cell Phone Review

Sony Ericsson W610i in Black/Orange GSM Unlocked Cell Phone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had this phone for a long time and let my friend borrow it for about a year.
My friend literally beat the phone up and it works perfectly fine (About 3 years of use!). The battery life is also still amazing!
Once you get used to the phone's UI and all it's little features, you will absolutely love it. I am an avid Android user. I had the G1 for a year. When my G1 got stolen, the W610i was my back up. Switching back to a basic phone wasn't easy but I fell in love with this phone again once I relearned the UI.
If you hate bulky smart phones and hate tiny basic phones, this phone is smack dab in the middle. Data plans on phones are overrated.
Great basic phone functions.
Camera is really slow.
Great music player.
Very bright flashlight.
Very loud speaker.
Doesn't use microSD.
Front buttons are PERFECT. They never stick or wear and are easily replaceable if you decided to buy a new housing.

Sony Ericsson W350i Ice Blue UNLOCKED Review

Sony Ericsson W350i Ice Blue UNLOCKED
Average Reviews:

I have purchased this phone for my girlfriend...she is not a "geek user" just wanted a nice phone with music reproduction capabilities and good sound.
This telephone is nice, easy to use and the sound is quite acceptable. Plus it could accept up to 2 GB of MS so a lot of music could be played on it.
The "battery life" is acceptable too and what my girlfriend loves the most is its beautiful appearance; thin, small, very nice colour and the outside keys to control the music is a very good idea.
No complains so far for this phone...the price we payed for it totally worth it.

Motorola MOTO Z9 Phone, Red (AT&T) Review

Motorola MOTO Z9 Phone, Red (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The back of the phone easily slides off when opening the phone (sliding up). I took the phone back to the AT&T store; they tried another back, and it came off, too. They told me to call the Warranty ph #; those folks told me I must have damaged the phone, which voided the warranty. I was told this by two people.
I like the feel of the phone - it's heavy-weight. The buttons are easy to use without selecting the wrong button. The menus are easy and intuitive. The video is so-so.
I also bought an 8G micro SD card, but the phone would not read it. Again, AT&T told me that this is because the phone will only read up to 4G. Not true, according to the manual!
Maybe my problem is with AT&T and not the phone! Anyhow, there's really nothing flashy about the phone. I do use it to access info on the web, and I use the camera quite a bit. The pictures are pretty good for a cell phone camera.

Slide into high style and lightning fast multimedia with the power-packed Motorola RIZR Z9 in fashionable metallic red. The next step in the evolution of its RIZR line of slider-style phones, the MOTO Z9 offers super-fast downloads and multimedia streaming via AT&T's 3G HSDPA network, which makes it easy to download music purchased from AT&T Mobile Music, stream tunes from Napster and eMusic, and watch video streamed from CNN and Comedy Central via AT&T's Cellular Video. It also supports AT&T's Video Share service, which offers a one-way video stream during a mobile-to-mobile phone call. And you'll be able to get to where you're going fast with the integrated Assisted GPS (A-GPS) receiver and support for AT&T Navigator software and service.
A sibling to Motorola's RAZR 2 V9 phone, the MOTO Z9 shares many of its features, including a sleek stainless steel body, CrystalTalk noise reduction technology, 2.0-megapixel camera (with video capture capabilities), Bluetooth connectivity for streaming music and photo printing, MicroSD memory card expansion (up to 8 GB), access to your personal email and instant messenger services, digital audio player, and full duplex speakerphone.
AT&T Service This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band 850/1900 MHz 3G network (UMTS/HSDPA), which provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. This makes it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services.
In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You'll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming.
With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company's 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) While using Video Share with family and friends is a fun way to communicate, it's also very useful for business. For example, a majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day's work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so.
You can take advantage of the AT&T Navigator GPS software and service, a full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search.
With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal.
The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more.
Phone Features The MOTO Z9 has a large, brightly colorful 2.4-inch screen with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and a depth of 262K colors. With the redesigned, more intelligent interface, you'll be able to search for contacts faster and avoid duplicate entries for the same person while allowing contacts to have multiple numbers. The customizable main menu means you're never more than 2 to 3 clicks away from your favorite applications. And text messaging is easier, with the MOTO Z9 recognizing what type of message you are sending.
The innovative CrystalTalk technology automatically accounts for background noise during a call and adjusts the audio quality based on ambient noise conditions to provide the optimal conversational experience. CrystalTalk also reduces the volume of the background noise picked up by the microphone during a call, making it possible to be more easily heard over the phone while in a noisy environment.
The 2.0-megapixel camera includes an 8x digital zoom and it can automatically snap up to eight new pictures--letting you choose the best image from a complete series of pictures. You can even print photos wirelessly to a Bluetooth-compatible printer with just a few menu selections. It also features a self-timer, free memory space indicator, color effects, night mode for low-light shots, and five shutter sounds (with a silent mode).
The MOTO Z9 is also an impressive video camcorder, providing up to QCIF resolution (176 x 144 pixels). It also gives you the option of choosing the video format, which offers different frame rates--25 fps for MPEG and H263 and 15 fps for WMV and Real. You can record video for as long as you have available space on your MicroSD/MicroSDHC memory card (which offers compatibility with cards up to 8 GB).
This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and photo printing. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.

In addition to voice calls, text messaging, and MMS capability, the phone is also compatible with mobile email from AOL, Yahoo!, Windows Live, and Bell South accounts, as well as instant messaging (IM) from the AIM, Windows Live, and Yahoo! services. The embedded iTap predictive text entry technology makes it easier for entering text on handsets--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. Other features include:

Support for caller groups, multiple numbers per contact, photo ID, and ringer ID
Polyphonic and MP3 ringtones with vibrate silent mode
Music format support: MP3, AAC, and WMA (as well as protected WMA-DRM)

Bought this phone yesterday (not from Amazon).
Amazing little device with a lot of innovative features. For example, the phone notifies the user of failure to connect to a WiFi network by crashing and rebooting. A dialog box pops up after the reboot to tell me that the phone restarted to "improve performance." Same thing happened when I tried to scan in a friend's business card, tried to fetch my email, take a photo, sync by bluetooth... the list continues. In fact, in just one day the phone restarted itself to 'improve performance' so many times, the performance must be getting really great by now.
Maybe a firmware update will help? Downloaded the Sony Ericsson Update Service (2.6.4.9). Ran it on my XP box at work - once installed, it played a Sony Ericsson eyecatch animation, then crashed with a 'java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException', but at least it kept planing the eyecatch over and over. Ahhhh. Tried it on my XP box at home - this time the installer came up with an empty window which stayed empty. No luck there. Finally tried it on an old Windows 200 laptop - this time it worked, recognised the phone, downloaded about 150M of something from the internet, pretended to flash the phone with new firmware. The result - same firmware, and more 'improving performance' messages.
The bottom line is - it is a very promising device. The hardware is good, the software is not even a public beta quality - proof of concept prototype at best. Not ready for public consumption in any shape or form. This seems to be a trend among smartphone manufacturers - release the product once the hardware is finished, promise to finish the software in new firmware releases, stop releasing firmware updates as a superseding model is in the works - leaving the consumer with a kind of working device. Sort of. Sometimes.

When it comes to important tools, the Symbian operating system has you covered. Easily edit documents you receive as attachments to emails, or that you have stored on memory card. Or use other tools, such as the alarm clock, a stopwatch, task and notes applications, a sound recorder, a and a file manager. This was my first smartphone. The apps of the android system are great, but if you download many of them your system is likely to crash a lot. The touchscreen may be cool at first, but sometimes simple tasks such as dialing or saving a number may become annoying, especially if the system gets slower and slower due to apps. The battery life is not too good. I have to recharge the phone daily even if I didn't make a long phone call. I am satisfied with the camera, which produces very good photos in my opinion. What makes this phone great is its size, look and the camera. Although the size makes this phone pretty handy, the touchscreen and the system may not be very convenient especially for basic usage such as phone calls and sms. All in all, I still like it but I think I should have bought the version with integrated keypad.

I got the W980 after my trusty W810i bit the dust. And why did it die? Because Sony insists on using their crappy 12-copper pin input/output/power port. After 2 years of being in a pocket, this port gets tarnished and requires daily cleaning. Or in my case the copper pin fell off and I could no longer charge my phone! But at least Sony made these copper pins much Larger in the W980. Cleaning these suckers should be a breeze! The W980 is great for those like me who need both a phone and a mp3 player. I don't need it for extensive texting or web browsing. And the fixed 8GB memory (no SD card here) is plenty since I don't watch videos on a 2-inch screen or need to store my entire collection of mp3s. It sounds/looks great and is a bit expensive for what you get. No new ground being broken here (looks like they saved that for the xperion).

So I brought this phone for my wife... she loves Sony Ericsson so she wanted this one so bad.
I see a lot of enhancements over her W760i... the new OS version is great... touchscreen works very great (just be aware that its only available when dealing with multimedia). By the way, watchign videos and pics on this is great, that screen does a really good job.
I was expecting more from the 8.1MP camera... works very good but I was expecting more as the 3.2MP on my Nokia phone still does a better job.
That might be a side down but the Bluetooth heads set is a huge plus so we're even :)
The only little glitch we saw is that it does not comes in Spanish... it has several other languages but not Spanish... not a real problem but an FYI.
And there is an update out there for it, not sure what enhancements it provides but what we noticed is that is changes the games so beware of that.

Nice phone with lots of little problems.
For example, you can't access the apps or games while the phone doesn't have a network. The software that
comes with the phone can't handle music without mp3 tags (all your files will be called : unknown and stored in folders called : unknown). If you don't use sony's horrible software to put the music on your phone, you
will not be able to use your songs as ringtones.
The camera isn't very good either, 5 megapixels? What a joke, my webcam looks better and the
response time when you take a picture... well, it takes 5 seconds before
it finally goes 'click'.
The voice recorder records sound at 8khz. My virus checker found the software that came with the phone 'suspicious',seems like Sony is still up to it's old rootkits spy-games.
I've never gottenthe gps to work.
The phone is full with facebook, youtube and twitter links, there is no way to get rid of them (in case you are not interested like me).
Maybe the biggest beef I have with phone is that there is no headphone jack, you have to use headphones with a sony connector.
The phone has a looooong list of features, but most are junk and the phone is not very configurable.
I give it 2 stars.

The C905 is the latest addition to the Sony Ericsson Cybershot range. Somewhat bulky but not too heavy, the black plastic chassis is coated with a rubber finish to give you a better grip of the phone. The spring loaded sliding mechanism and the brushed metal sliding camera lens cover are impressive, but the strangely shaped battery cover along with the bolted-on sim holder makes removing the (u)sim card a bit of a hassle.
The interface of the C905 hasn't evolved much from its predecessors (C902, K850, etc), so if you're a seasoned Sony Ericsson user, you would have no problem using this phone straight out of the box.
The first thing you'd notice about this phone is the fact it's both GPS and WIFI enabled (B&G only). Although nothing new, these two features have been missing from most high-end SE phones released between 2007-2008, whereas you can find them on most of Nokia's N-Series and E-Series phones. The GPS feature uses Google Map, which requires connection to the internet to download the required map to the phone. Therefore, you might want to sign up for an unlimited data plan with your service provider if you're going to use this feature heavily.
I'm not sure at this point whether you can download the map through the phone's WIFI receiver, but it seems that the phone will connect to the internet automatically the second you turn on the google map application. There's an option to turn off the GPS receiver, but no option to turn off the internet connection.
The multimedia features of the C905 are not worth mentioning, mostly because they are the same as those you'd find on C902, K850 and K810. The only thing worth mentioning here is the fact that SE has increased the resolution of the built-in camera to a whopping 8.1 megapixel, which generates picture files that are around 2 Megabyte each. The internal available memory of the phone is only around 106 Megabyte, so if you snap alot of photographs on the go, you may want to buy additional memory cards to store them. The Sony Ericsson website claims that the phone will handle memory stick micro cards up to 8GB in size, and my Sandisk 8GB card seems to work well with the phone.
The pictures look good on the phone screen but tend to be a little noisy at full view even when shooting under daylight conditions, but is generally good enough to produce very sharp A3 prints. The xenon flash produces bright and rich colours but is a little weak (according to SE you can only shoot a subject from about four steps away), but is more than adequate to beat those models that come with LED flashes.
The supplied battery is amazingly small but has a power rating of 930mah, which is more than ample for 3 hours worth of calls.
The C905, is it a phone with a built-in camera or is it a pocket-sized camera with a quadband transceiver? One thing's for sure, it's definately an upgrade over the C902 (minus the touch screen feature) and the K850 as it takes impromptu photography to a whole new level with the large 8.1 mp sensor.

I don't know where to start but let's start first about the cheap (although light wight) materials that SonyErcson used to build this phone compared to the iPhone4 which feels like a Bugatti compared to SonyErcson !
Moreover, Sony is known by making the best LCD monitors but they did a bad job in building the Arc screen which looks like that it came from the 70's compared to the iPhone4 "Retina display".
As for the camera sony claims that is an 8MP which i figured out it delivers the worst shots I ever seen in terms of shooting response! If you try an iphone4 cam you will know exactly what I'm talking about ! A leica camera compared to maybe a fujesto crappy camera!!! And Ohh! not mentioning that it doesn't have a front camera!!! :(
The reason why I'm giving it 2 stars is one the 4 inch screen which I see it very nice and a star for Android which is ok especially the screen wedges but still light years behind Apple iOS.
Android OS has lots of tweaks and settings to play with but eventually you will find that you don't need them! and it laggs ur smartphone.
PS: The reason why I bought the SonyErcson Arc is cuz i was sick and tired from using an iPhone and i wanted a change, a new blood of handset in my pocket!

Everythig was delivered in perfect conditions.
PROS:The phone works great.
CONS:The only problem is the low battery life, even with all funtions off it last only one day. Most cell phones last at least 2 days.
Also the camera has practically no functions. Pictures and video and thats it. No serial pictures, no zoom, to name a few.

I bought this phone and returned it a week later. I have AT&T service and was un-able to get picture messages. I called Sony, AT&T and no one was able to help me. The features of the phone is great, but too compact for me. Texting was too time consuming, and placing a call was not that easy as well. I like the look and what it offered but it needs to be in a much larger body. Pictures were great, moving through the phone was fast, but just was un-happy that I paid so much for the phone and could not get picture messages, nor use the video calling feature. How funny, now AT&T carries this phone, I would have been able to use all the features now.

I am not sure what the other reviewers are comparing this phone to, but I can say this is the best smartphone I have ever owned. I've been using the phone for four months. Here is what you should know about the phone:
1) Phone sports a beautiful 800 x 480 touch screen. The touch screen is very responsive compared to other touchscreen phones I've used, with the exception of the iPhone -- which is the gold standard in touch responsiveness -- but doesn't have nearly as many features.
2) The Xperia is infinitely customizable. The panels allow you to quickly switch between home screens for Search, Facebook, Skype, Weather, Photo Slideshow and many more.
3) I also love Windows Mobile. The phone can do almost anything. All of the features of the most advanced smartphone are available; MMS, Video recording, File Explorer, Micro SD Card, Cut & Paste, WiFi, Stereo Bluetooth and the best Exchange E-Mail integration available.
4) Although the OS is a bit dated, there are thousands of third party applications developed for it that anything it cannot do out of the box can easily be added to the device via third party software. A couple of applications I could not do without are SPB Mobile Shell, eWallet, Google Maps, Astraware Solitaire, Opera Browser, Live Search, WMWifiRouter not to mention the native Microsoft Office applications -- Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. All of these applications run perfectly on the Xperia X1.
5) The only things I'd like to see changed on the device are a bigger screen and improved keyboard. The screen size is 3.0 inches and I'd prefer 3.2 or 3.5 inches. The keyboard is made of flat steel keys in a small form factor that my fingers slide to easily over.
There's much more to the phone than I can give credit to in this forum, but I have been using Windows Mobile phones for about 9 years and find the SE Xperia X1a the best yet. The phone also comes with extended service and support that blows away anything offered from competing manufacturers.
